In a few ways, this year's Dell Inspiron 15 5000-series is a step down from last year's model. Build quality and battery life have both dipped, which is not something I'd typically expect from Dell. However, the compromises the company has made has allowed it to reinstate the DVD drive, which some users will be happy about, install a Full HD screen and bolster both the processing and graphics performance of this mid-range laptop.

Dell Inspiron 5558 is a good mid-range multimedia notebook that offers good specs at a reasonable price. It has enough performance in store to handle even pretty demanding computational tasks, and work with heavy professional software with the Intel Core i7 CPU and 16GB RAM. The discrete (but entry-level) GeForce 920M offers decent performance for some light graphics tasks and gaming on low settings, but you won’t be able to play any heavy games like Thief or Grand Theft Auto V, as it simply does not offer enough performance. You would think that all these powerful components would heat up the machine a lot, but Dell have done a good job with the heat management of the machine. The temperatures, even under heavy load, are far from the operational maximum, and the device was comfortable to touch even after 2 hours of stress testing.

Modell: Das Dell Inspiron 15- 5558  gehört zur 15-5000 Serie und bringt viele Features. Sein 15,6 Zoll großer LED-HD-Bildschirm verfügt über eine Auflösung von 1366 x 768 Pixeln. Es nutzt einen Intel Core i3 Prozessor der fünften Generation mit einer Taktrate von 2 GHz und 4 GB DDR3 RAM, was für Multitasking genügt. Darüber hinaus gibt es zwei RAM-Slots. Daher kann die RAM-Kapazität auf bis zu 16 GB erweitert werden. Die Speicherkapazität der Festplatte beträgt 500 GB und dieses Dell-Notebook ist mit einem DVD RW Laufwerk ausgestattet.

Zum Anschluss von Peripherie-Geräten stehen drei USB-Ports, einer davon USB-3.0 und die anderen beiden USB-2.0, zur Verfügung. Ein HDMI-Ausgang und ein Media-Card-Leser gehören zu den Ports, die man entlang der Seiten dieses Geräts vorfindet. Wie die meisten Notebooks verfügt das Inspiron 15-5558 über Stereo-Lautsprecher und eine Webcam. Die Akkulaufzeit ist mit bis zu 7 Stunden Verwendung unter Windows 8.1 spezifiziert. Insgesamt erfüllt dieses Dell-Notebook seinen Zweck als preisgünstiges, portables Gerät.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
