So viel muss der Neid den Entwicklern bei Google lassen; technisch haben sie die Konkurrenz aus Cupertino deutlich in die Knie gezwungen. Angesichts des Preises ist das aber auch nicht sehr verwunderlich. Bleibt nur, den Nimbus des Apple iPhones zu brechen, aber wer weiß, vielleicht spielt auch hier der Preis eine wichtige Rolle, solange er stabil bleibt, und das Pixel, ob nun XL oder nicht, nicht in wenigen Monaten doch noch verramscht wird.

Der modernen Hardware ... steht ... ein gewichtiger Nachteil entgegen. So kostet das Pixel XL 899 Euro in der 32-GB-Version, von denen für den Nutzer lediglich 22 GB zur freien Verfügung stehen. Den knappen Platz mit einer Speicherkarte zu erweitern ist mangels Slot nicht möglich. Cloud-Speicher hin, Cloud-Speicher her –dies ist für ein solches Modell und zu diesem Preis einfach viel zu wenig.

Das Gerät nimmt gut belichtete, farbechte und scharfe Makrobilder auf. Auch die Ergebnisse mit hoher Lichtempfindlichkeit können sich hinsichtlich Bildrauschens und Helligkeit sehen lassen. Als völlig unbrauchbar in unserem Testszenario erweist sich jedoch der Blitz, der Fotos deutlich rot einfärbt. Immerhin ist die Reichweite lobenswert. ... Tageslichtaufnahmen zeigen schöne Farben, aber etwas zu wenig Dynamik.

Im Alltag macht das Google Pixel XL also keinerlei Probleme was Micro Ruckler oder das Starten von Anwendungen anbelangt. Im Gegenteil – Google hat hier wieder einmal das Beste an Software Optimierung raus geholt, was überhaupt möglich ist. Kein Wunder – wenn auch leicht gedrosselt – verbaut Google mit der Snapdragon 821 Quad-Core-CPU, das Schnellste was Qualcomm aktuell im Angebot hat.

Googles Smartphones sind also gut verarbeitete Geräte, dessen Subsysteme wie Display, Kamera, Hardware und Akku überzeugen. Es gibt sie in zwei verschiedene Größen und zwei Farben. Für die nächste Generation wünschen wir uns Stereolautsprecher, denn der aktuelle Klang ist mono – außerdem wären Gesten wie Double-Tap-To-Wake oder Raise-To-Wake nicht schlecht.

Bis jetzt überzeugt uns das Google Pixel XL – aber nicht beim Preis. Berücksichtigt man die mittelmässige Akkulaufzeit im Vergleich zum Galaxy S7, könnte man angesichts des hohen Strassenpreises von rund über 800 Franken im Moment auch zu halb so teuren Alternativen wie dem schon etwas älteren, jedoch hervorragenden Nexus 6P von Huawei zurückgreifen.

Die Konkurrenz auf dem Android-Markt ist jedoch verdammt groß. Wenn einem das mit den Updates egal ist, dann würde ich nicht zum Pixel greifen. Da bietet das Galaxy S7 Edge von Samsung meiner Meinung nach das bessere Paket. Vor allem mit Blick auf den Preis, das Pixel liegt hier nämlich auch auf iPhone-Niveau.

Insgesamt hat man viel Lob übrig für das Pixel XL, vergibt aber trotzdem nur einen Score von 6 – bei 10 möglichen Punkten. Grund ist die Gefahr eines Displaybruchs beim Lösen des Displays und das sehr feste, ins Gehäuse geklemmte Mittelteil des Aufbaus. Auch hier besteht die Gefahr, das Smartphone zu beschädigen.

Eine Menge Geld, viele potenzielle Kunden werden dadurch bestimmt abgeschreckt.

Modell: Nachdem die Nexus-Produktlinie anscheinend nicht fortgesetzt wird, hat Google seine eigenen Flaggschiff-Geräte herausgegeben: das Google Pixel und seinen größeren Bruder, das Google Pixel XL. Die beiden sind fast identisch, abgesehen davon, dass das Pixel XL einen größeren und schärferen Bildschirm und einen größeren Akku hat. Nimmt man das Pixel XL in die Hand, wird sofort offensichtlich, dass es nahtlos in einen robusten Körper aus Glas und Aluminium mit glatten Oberflächen und leicht zu ergreifenden abgerundeten Kanten gekleidet ist. Verglichen mit den neulich herausgebrachten Konkurrenten, wie dem Samsung S7 Edge und dem iPhone 7 Plus verfügt das Pixel XL über einen größeren Rahmen. In Anbetracht dessen, dass das Pixel statt eines phyiskalischen Home-Screen-Button nur über einen am Bildschirm verfügt, erscheint das Design wenig verständlich, denn der gesamte Platz bleibt ungenützt. Zudem sollten Benutzer berücksichtigen, dass das Gerät nicht wasserfest ist. Das Pixel XL verfügt über einen 5,5 Zoll großen Quad-HD AMOLED Bildschirm mit 534 ppi hinter 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glas 4. Dieser kann 16,7 Millionen Farben bei einem super Kontrastverhältnis von 100000:1 erzeugen, womit das Pixel XL auch im Außeneinsatz für lebendige Filmdarstellungen sorgen kann. Außerdem verfügt das Pixel XL über eine Nachteinstellung, welche den Bildschirm gelblich tönt. Das verringert die Belastung der Augen durch einen hellen, bläulich Bildschirm in der Nacht. Im Inneren des Pixel XL arbeiten Qualcomms brandneues Snapdragon 821 Chipset und 4 GB RAM. Außerdem kann das Pixel XL stolz behaupten, zu den ersten Geräten zu gehören, die ab Werk das neueste Android 7.1 Nougat nutzen, wodurch es möglicherweise, wenig überraschend für ein Google-Gerät, zum bis jetzt schnellsten Android-Smartphone wird. Das Pixel XL verfügt über einen 3.400 mAh Akku, der laut Google nach nur 15 Minuten Aufladen 7 Stunden durchhalten kann.

Da das Gerät auf eine Google-zentrische Erfahrung ausgerichtet wurde, stellt das Pixel XL alle Dienste, die Google zu bieten hat, zur Verfügung. Dazu gehören der neueste Google Assistant, der ausschließlich für das Pixel verfügbar ist. Es ist einfach den Google Assistant zu aktivieren: einfach den Home-Screen-Button drücken oder das "OK Google" Stimmkommando nutzen. Das Pixel XL ist ein zwei Varianten verfügbar: mit 32 GB oder 128 GB internen Speicher. Da es jedoch unbeschränkten Zugang zu Photo- und Video Cloud-Speicher via Google Photos hat, mag dies nicht entscheidend sein. Mit der Google-Tastatur - eine GIF integrierte Tastatur, können User GIFs in der Google Messenger App verschicken, wodurch es noch mehr Freude macht, das Google zu nutzen. Die Rückseite des Phone weist den Google Imprint auf, Googles Fingerabdruckleser für verbesserte User-Sicherheit und Services wie Android Pay. Dieser arbeitet schnell und genau und bietet weiters den Vorteil, durch Wischen des Fingerabdrucklesers das Benachrichtigungsmenü herabzuziehen. Oberhalb des Fingerabdrucklesers sitzt eine 12,3-MP Kamera mit Dual-LED-Blitz. Diese ist für Photographie unter schlechten Lichtbedingungen optimiert und kann 4K-Videos aufnehmen. Optische Bildstabilisierung wird nicht unterstützt, doch sie nutzt eine Kombination aus Gyroskop und Software, um Videos zu stabilisieren, welche für Video-Aufnahmen unterwegs erstaunlich gut funktioniert. Ob sie so gut wie ein typisches OIS ist, muss sich erst weisen. Das Google Pixel XL ist möglicherweise jenes Gerät, für das man bereit ist mehr auszugeben, um das Beste aus dem, was Google zu bieten hat, herauszuholen.
