The only downside to this amazing piece of tech is the software – it features ZenUI on top of Android 7.0 along with a fair bit of non-removable bloatware.

Even without the dual whammy of augmented and virtual reality tech, the ZenFone AR is an exciting phone. It certainly looks very nice - particularly compared to the previous Tango phone, the far chunkier Phab 2 Pro; it really is impressive that Asus has managed to pack all that tech into a smartphone this slim.

Modell: Der Bereich der mobilen erweiterten (AR) und virtuellen Realität (VR) ist seit kurzem eher schwach. Doch einige Hersteller versuchen es dennoch mit Innovationen. Asus hat diesmal AR- und VR-Hardware direkt im eigentlichen Gerät verbaut. Gemeint ist das Asus ZenFone AR-ZS571KL, das trotz nicht einfach auszusprechendem Namen vielversprechend aussieht. Es ist mit Qualcomms Snapdragon 821 SoC, bis zu 256 GB internen Speicher, 8 GB RAM und nicht einen oder zwei, sondern gleich drei Frontkameras ausgestattet. Es scheint, dass das erste Mal in der gesamten Industrie soviel Frontkameras zum Einsatz kommen. Trotzdem ist das Gerät genauso überzeugend wie Ihr normales Smartphone. Alles an diesem Phone wirkt erstklassig. Doch wie schneidet das Gehäuse ab? Jedes ZenFon nutzt eine andere Materialwahl. Dieses Mal hat sich Asus für einen Metallrahmen mit Leder entschieden. Insgesamt ist die Festigkeit des Phones zufriedenstellend und es verwindet sich nur minimal. Beim Bildschirm handelt es sich um ein 5.7 Zoll großes AMOLED-Display mit einer Auflösung von 1440p. Dieses ist sehr lebendig und hell. Da es sich um ein AR/VR-Phone handelt, sollte man folgendes beachten: Asus behauptet, eines seiner Hauptmerkmale sei, dass es nur durch Ansehen des Bildschirms virtuelle Objekte in die reale Welt einfügen kann. Googles Computer-Vision-Software und seine Sensoren ermöglichen dem ZenFone AR räumliche Wahrnehmung und Bewegungserkennung. Das ermöglicht es dem Phone zu erkennen, wie weit entfernt es von Mauern und Objekten ist. Interessanter ist das Lernverhalten und Spiele wie Solar Simulator, welches den Weltraum in Ihr Zimmer bringt. Zudem unterstützt das AR Google Daydream und jegliche ähnlich geartete Software.

Da VR/AR-Geräte im Betrieb eher heiß werden, hat Asus versprochen, ein „Advanced Vapor Cooling System” zu verwenden, welches die Temperaturen bei der Nutzung von AR/VR-Funktionen in Schach halten soll. Natürlich würde AR ohne Kameras nicht funktionieren. Das Asus ist mit drei Kameras ausgestattet, eine davon mit 23 MP, eine mit 8 MP und ein Tiefensensor. Unter der ganzen Hardware könnte die Akkulaufzeit leiden, doch Asus setzt erfreulicherweise auf einen 3300 mAh Akku. Diese Kapazität ist gut für ein Phone dieser Größe. Natürlich kann man nicht alles haben, was man sich wünscht, doch wenigstens ist Android 7 Nougat vorinstalliert, womit das Gerät aktuell bleiben sollte. Zwar mag es sich nicht um das erste AR-Phone handelt, doch es ist das erste AR und VR Phone, welches für seinen Einsatzzweck gut optimiert ist. Trotzdem sollten User etwas abwarten, damit mögliche Schwächen behoben werden können, falls dies notwendig sein sollte.
