Bei großen Händen und längerem Schreiben ist die scharfe Kante der Handballenablage unangenehm. Dafür ist das Keyboard sehr gut, auch wenn eine Beleuchtung fehlt. Unser Testgerät ist das 1000 Euro teure Spitzenmodell der U300s-Serie mit einem Core i7-2677M und einer 256 GByte großen SSD. Daher hat es bei der Rechenleistung die Nase vorn, sortiert sich aber in der Systemleistung knapp hinter dem Asus und dem Dell ein.

The U300s being the first Ultrabook we tested, we can’t help, but be quite impressed with what Intel has envisioned. It’s perfect for carrying around and has everything one would typically need in a notebook, minus the extra bulk and unnecessary features. The all-aluminum chassis is a welcome change. We have to give props to Lenovo for doing a really good job with the design and aesthetics of the notebook. Currently, the pricing may be one of the main factors holding this notebook back. You can certainly get a more powerful notebook for this money, but then that’s missing the point. The audience for this niche segment already exists, all we need now are more options and cheaper prices.

While it may not be as flashy, we like this Ultrabook's solid aluminum design, excellent performance, and nearly 7 hours of battery life. Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).
Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

In diesem Display-Größenbereich gibt es kaum noch Tablets. Für Subnotebooks ist es dagegen das Standardformat.
Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das kleinere Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten anstrengender für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen finden sich eher bei den Standard-Laptops.

Eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen, es sei denn es handelt sich um Websites, die generell streng urteilen.
