In den Geschwindigkeitsmessungen erreichte das Inspiron nur ein "ausreichend". Ein Grund: Es hat nur 1 Gigabyte Arbeitsspeicher ab Werk. Das war vor allem bei der Startgeschwindigkeit und beim Arbeiten mit speicherhungrigen Programmen zu spüren - mit solcher Software war das Inspiron nur halb so schnell wie beispielsweise das Wortmann-Notebook.

Das Dell Inspiron 1525 präsentiert sich im Test als ausgereifter und günstiger Allrounder für tägliche Büro- und Multimediatätigkeiten. Neben der grundsoliden Verarbeitung, dem stabilen Gehäuse und den angenehmen Eingabegeräten liegen die Stärken des 15,4-zölligen Notebooks vor allem in seinem mannigfaltigen Schnittstellenangebot begründet. Mit gleich vier USB-Anschlüssen, einer Webcam und nicht zuletzt dem hochmodernen HDMI-Ausgang können sonst nur weniger Notebooks dieser Preisklasse aufwarten. Die Multimediaoberfläche Dell MediaDirect, das leuchtstarke Spiegel-LCD und nicht zuletzt die praktische Fernbedienung unterstreichen den multimedialen Anspruch unseres Testgeräts weiter. Dank der flotten Core-2-Duo-Architektur und den zwei Gigabyte Arbeitsspeicher kann dieser auch leistungstechnisch erfüllt werden. Selbst bei der Wiedergabe hoch auflösender Videoclips von der Festplatte geht dem Inspiron 1525 nicht so schnell die Puste aus. Einzig für aktuelle 3D-Spiele eignet es sich aufgrund der integrierten Grafiklösung von Intel nicht besonders.

Das Inspiron 1525 von Dell ist ein durchschnittliches Office-Gerät im Multimedia-Gewand. Für den Preis von ca. 700 Euro (Stand Mitte Januar 2008) ist ein Intel Core-2-Duo Prozessor T5450 (1,66 GHz), 2 GByte Arbeitsspeicher und eine 160 GByte SATA-Festplatte mit 5.400 Umdrehungen in der Minute verbaut. Die gezeigten Leistungen in den Grafik- und Anwendungs-Benchmarks sowie den Messungen der Ergonomiewerte brachten dem 15“-Entertainer die Notebookjournal-Gesamtnote "Befriedigend".
Der Intel-Prozessor und die SATA-Festplatte kommen im PassMark Performance Test mit 456,5 Punkten auf ein durchschnittliches Ergebnis. Auch der Benchmark mit Povray (1452 Sekunden) bestätigt die ausreichende Anwendungs-Leistung. Die Ergebnisse der Grafik-Benchmarks sind mit 20.993 Punkten im Aquamark unterer Durchschnitt. Positiv verhalten sich die zahlreichen Multimedia-Features. Webcam, Fernbedienung und Mediacenter arbeiten tadellos und ermöglichen den einfachen Genuss von Filmen, Musik und Bildern.

The Inspiron 15 is definitely a solid notebook. It won’t win any awards for performance since it doesn’t offer the fastest processor or dedicated graphics. It is good for those that want a quality computer that performs well on office tasks and multimedia, but don’t want to spend a whole lot of money. I really like the fact the Inspiron 15 is relative light and thin for a 15.4″ screen notebook. It has most of the port options you could want too. The lid design offerings are nice, though the actually look and shape of the notebook is pretty sterile and nothing as cool as the XPS M1530. Overall the Inspiron 15 is a good buy, will get the job done, but won’t win any design or performance awards.

With a complete top-to-bottom revamp of Dell's entire laptop line in mid-2007, why the need for a new mainstream model so soon? While the current 14-inch  Inspiron 1420 hits the size/features/performance sweet spot, and the high-end XPS M1330 and the XPS M1530 are slick, thin 13- and 15-inch models, respectively, the middle-of-the-road Inspiron 1520 was always a little too big and clunky for its own good. Taking consumer complaints to heart, Dell updates its mainstream 15-inch laptop with the Inspiron 1525. It's thinner, lighter, and less expensive than its predecessor.

Overall, the Dell Inspiron 1525 is an excellent budget notebook with good looks and solid performance. This isn't a gaming machine, but the 1525 can handle everyday computing tasks with ease ... and looks good while doing them. In short, the Inspiron 1525 is exactly the notebook that the Inspiron 1520 should have been in the first place. Even though the 1525 is arriving a little late to the party we suspect it's going to be a very welcomed guest in many homes.

Serie: Inspiron 1525 wird derzeit (Okt. 08) auf der Website von Dell USA als Inspiron 15 angeführt, wobei 1525 in Klammer steht.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel, die im 965GM und GL960 Chipsatz eingebaut ist. Dank voll programmierbarer Pipeline DX 10 fähig (mit Treibern seit 15.9.0.1472). Gute Performance für eine integrierte Grafikkarte, jedoch trotzdem kaum spielefähig.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

75.65%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
