Fujitsu's LifeBook N6470 desktop replacement laptop is designed as a mobile mulotimedia platform. This includes a Blu-ray compatible optical drive for playing back high definition movies and an ExpressCard HDTV tuner card. The problem is that the display doesn't truly support the full 1080p making it a less than desirable mobile media platform.

We were surprised at how much we like the Fujitsu LifeBook N6470. The unassuming matte-black case on this 17-inch desktop replacement doesn't exactly look luxe, and it lacks such headline-grabbing features as SLI graphics and a high-definition optical drive. Well-rounded in both features and performance, the large Fujitsu LifeBook N6470 combines computer and entertainment hub in one desktop-replacement laptop.

While overall performance numbers on the LifeBook more than held their own, this notebook is largely a case of a good specs sheet being let down by a lackluster user experience. With battery life that's little short of awful, an unpleasant keyboard, lots of flex and a generally unappealing look and feel, the N6470 seems to offset its strong characteristics (beautiful screen, quick processor and plenty of RAM, multimedia capabilities) with some noteworthy irritations and disappointments. If the N6470 cost $500 less, it would be much easier to overlook many of these warts, but at its current price there are simply too many good options out there.

One screen wasn't enough for Fujitsu. The company just had to tack on a second, smaller screen and create a sort of odd mashup with its Fujitsu Lifebook N7010 laptop. The screens make this laptop unique enough to stand apart from a quickly-growing crowd of 16-inch models - but if you're buying the Fujitsu Lifebook N7010, sign up for a carpal tunnel specialist, because of the undersized keyboard.

This can't be right. Fujitsu says its new desktop replacement notebook has a cinematic 16:9-aspect-ratio screen for watching high-definition videos or Blu-ray movies. This LCD divides out to 16:9 all right, but its resolution is too low. And it's only 4 inches big, for goodness sake, you need to squint to see the actors and-- Oh. Sorry. Our bad. We were looking at the wrong screen. The other one is a good 16 inches diagonally. The Blu-ray player works fine with it.

Overall, the LifeBook N7010 strikes us as a solid if slightly pricey alternative to a desktop, especially — thanks to the Blu-ray player and HDMI port — if there's home entertainment as well as office work on the agenda. The touch zone is too small to boost productivity in the way that, say, the retractable, 10.6-inch second screen of Lenovo's ThinkPad W700ds is, but it's more fun than the usual strip of two or three multimedia keys or customizable buttons.

It doesn’t deliver the sort of performance and some of the perks available in similar class books from the likes of HP and Acer, but the Touch Zone display does sweeten the pot—especially for video messaging junkies. At the very least, it makes this LifeBook worth a look the next time you’re browsing laptops at your local electronics retailer.

Consumers have a number of choices when it comes to 16-inch, 16:9 ratio notebooks these days—some as low as $999. While the Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 is $500 more, it provides a unique second 4-inch touch display, solid everyday performance, and impressive Blu-ray playback. The touchscreen is an innovative feature and makes it easy to launch your favorite apps quickly. However, for its $1,500 price tag we wish the N7010’s graphics performance was above that of more affordable 16-inch systems, like the $999 Acer Aspire 6930G and Gateway MC Series. Nevertheless, if a cool second display with touch functionality and Blu-ray are features you’re lusting after, the Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 is a fun, one-of-a-kind multimedia notebook.

Fujitsu-Siemens: Fujitsu Limited, ist ein japanischer Technologiekonzern mit 161.000 (März 2007) Mitarbeitern weltweit, dessen Ursprünge ins Jahr 1935 zurückreichen. Schwerpunkte der Produkte und Dienstleistungen sind Informationstechnologie, Telekommunikation, Halbleiter und Netzwerke. 1999 startete dieZusammenarbeit mit Siemens im IT-Bereich (Server, Notebooks, Desktop-PCs, etc.) unter der Marke Fujitsu-Siemens. 10 Jahre später endete diese Kooperation. FSC gehörte zu den grösseren internationalen Herstellern mit besonders hohen Marktanteilen in Deutschland.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: DirectX 10 Konkurrent der 8600M GS mit zahlreichen Videofunktionen (Avivo HD). In Spielen jedoch teilweise deutlich schneller.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

T7500: Der T7500 war ein schneller Core 2 Duo der Merom Serie mit 4 MB Level 2 Cache. Später war er in der Mittelklasse bei Core 2 Duo P7570 eingelistet.

T8300:

P8400: Der P8400 ist ein Mittelklasse-Dual-Core Prozessor der Core 2 Duo Reihe. Durch den TDP von 25W eignet sich die CPU auch für kleinere Notebooks. Für ambitionierte Spieler könnte die Leistung jedoch etwas zu gering ausfallen.

16.0: 16 Zoll Display-Varianten gibt es im Großen und Ganzen erst seit 2009, dürften aber immer häufiger werden, vor allem in Kombination mit 16:9 Diagonalen. Die Bildschirmgröße ist etwas größer als die häufige Standardgröße 15 Zoll. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.

17.1: 17 Zoll Displaygrösse ist ein seit 2006 häufig angebotenes Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.

67.5%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Die meisten Notebooks werden besser beurteilt. Als Kaufempfehlung darf man das nicht sehen.
