While the 13-inch devices don’t boast of as powerful specs as the 15-incher, but still promises to deliver good performance.

Das Apple MacBook Pro 15 2018 ist ein leistungsstarkes Notebook für professionelle Arbeit, es richtet sich vor allem an Power-User. Außen blieb das größte MacBook gänzlich unverändert, das brillante Design des Vorgängers wurde beibehalten. Dennoch ist es 17 Prozent leichter und 14 Prozent dünner als sein Vorgänger aus dem Jahr 2015 und wirkt hochwertig wie eh und je. Der Laptop ist dünner als die meisten “pro” Windows-Laptops mit leistungsstarken Prozessoren. Schlankheit ist ein strittiger Punkt geworden, da sie die Kühlung des Laptops verkompliziert. Das Unibody-Aluminium-Design passt wundervoll zum Glasbildschirm, Touchpad, sowie der Touch-Bar mit einem Touch-ID-Sensor. Alle 15-Zoll-Modelle des 2018-MacBook-Pro sind mit einer Touch-Bar ausgerüstet. Es handelt sich hierbei um einen dünnen Touchscreen aus Glas mit einer Auflösung von 2.170 x 60 Pixel, der entlang des oberen Randes der Tastatur verläuft und je nach Kontext verschiedene Tasten anzeigt. Die Tasten ändern sich mit jedem Programm bzw. jeder Aufgabe, mit der sich ein Nutzer beschäftigt. Sie sollen schnelle Kurzbefehle bieten, die den Arbeitsablauf beschleunigen könnten. Noch ein Wort zum Bildschirm: Die Auflösung von 2.880 x 1.800 Pixel, also 220 ppi (Pixel per Zoll) Pixeldichte, der früheren MacBook Pros blieb gleich, eine Neuheit ist hingegen Apples True-Tone-Displaytechnologie, die ihr Debüt beim iPad Pro hatte und mittlerweile auch auf dem iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus und iPhone X präsent ist. Diese Technologie erahnt das Umgebungslicht und passt den Bildschirm an, sodass man immer helle und leuchtende Bilder erhält, egal wo man arbeitet.
Wie schon beim 13-Zoll-Macbook-Pro mit Touch-Bar (2018) wurden auch hier die Lautsprecher verbessert, was eine beeindruckende Leistung ist, denn das MacBook Pro ist bekannt für seine ausgezeichneten Lautsprecher. In Sachen Konnektivität sorgt Thunderbolt-3 für bahnbrechende Veränderungen. Jeder Anschluss verfügt über ausreichend Bandbreite, um einen hochauflösenden Monitor oder ein Dock anzutreiben, das jede Schnittstelle bietet, die man sich wünschen könnten; Power-Output ist natürlich auch eine Funktion. USB-Typ-C wird nicht so schnell vom MacBook Pro verschwinden. Immer mehr Laptops setzen ein Setup mit Thunderbolt/USB-C ein, da es für alle möglichen Peripherie-Geräte nutzbar ist, von externen GPUs bis zu Tastaturen und Mäusen. Apple baute einen sechskern Prozessor in jedes Modell des 15-Zoll-MacBooks - die Auswahl reicht vom i7-Prozessor im Basismodell, das leistungsmäßig schon viel Potential aufweist, bis zum neuesten und leistungsstärksten i9-Prozessor. Weiter geht es mit dem Arbeitsspeicher, der von 16 GB 2133-MHz-LPDDR3 auf 64 GB 2400-MHz-DDR4 gesteigert wurde und auf die Mainboard verlötet ist. Für Grafik sorgt entweder die Radeon Pro 555X im Basismodell oder die leistungsfähige Radeon Pro 560X, beide mit 4 GB Videospeicher. Das Solid-State-Laufwerk kann mit bis zu 4 TB konfiguriert werden, was den Preis in die Nähe von 10.000 US-Dollar treibt. Das 2018-MacBook-Pro erreichte eine Akkulaufzeit von knapp 10 Stunden, bevor es heruntergefahren wurden. Verglichen mit der Konkurrenz ist das kein schlechtes Ergebnis - bei intensiveren Aufgaben, z.B. Video-Rendering, sollte man jedoch mit einer kürzeren Akkulaufzeit rechnen.

AMD Radeon RX 560X (Laptop): Umbenannte Radeon RX 560 und daher ebenfalls auf Polaris 11/21 basierende Grafikkarte für Notebooks. Bietet 1024 Shader und eine Taktrate von meistens 1175 - 1275 MHz.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

i9-8950HK: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem sechs CPU-Kerne mit 2,9 - 4,8 GHz (4,3 GHz bei 6 Kernen) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, hohe Auflösungen oftmals erlaubt und damit Detailreichtum am Bildschirm bietet und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können - also schlicht der Standard-Kompromiss.
