Apple iPhone 17 review: Sometimes boring is best
Quelle: Ars Technica Englisch EN→DE
The screen is one of the iPhone Pro's best features, and the iPhone 17 gets it this year. That plus the 256GB storage bump is pretty much all you need to know; this will be a more noticeable upgrade for anyone with, say, the iPhones 12-to-14 than the iPhone 15 or 16 was. And for $799—$200 more than the 128GB version of the iPhone 16e and $100 more than the 128GB version of the iPhone 16—it's by far the iPhone lineup's best value for money right now. This is also happening at the same time as the iPhone Pro is getting a much chonkier new design, one I don't particularly love the look of, even though I appreciate the functional camera and battery upgrades it enables. This year's Pro feels like a phone targeted toward people who are actually using it in a professional photography or videography context, where in other years, it's felt more like "the regular iPhone plus a bunch of nice, broadly appealing quality-of-life stuff that may or may not trickle down to the regular iPhone over time."

77% Apple iPhone 17 review: The iPhone you should actually buy
Quelle: Phone Arena Englisch EN→DE
If you've been holding off on upgrading from your older iPhone, now is the perfect time to do that, as the iPhone 17 finally addresses most of the hardware elephants in the room. We finally get a very bright and super-smooth display on the base iPhone, which had been limited to 60 Hz for far too long. The wired charging speed also scores an important upgrade that cuts down the time your iPhone has to spend plugged in. The camera continues to be extremely dependable and consistent, and you now get a plentiful 256GB of storage to house all those pictures and videos you capture. Pair all that with the fairly sensible pricing, and what you're left with is pretty much the perfect iPhone for just about anybody.

91% Never Mind the iPhone Pro: The iPhone 17 Is Probably All You Need
Quelle: CNet Englisch EN→DE
The baseline iPhone is never really meant to turn heads when stacked against the rest of Apple's lineup. But a handful of notable upgrades on the iPhone 17 make it a worthy contender if you're in the market for a new device that ticks the basics. Improvements to the display and camera help the iPhone 17 feel like it's really worth that $829 price, and can make it an enticing option if you don't want to spend upwards of $1,100 on a Pro model. The dual rear camera system also makes it feel like more of a practical option if you take a lot of photos and videos than the iPhone Air, which has only one rear camera. (Unlike the Air, the iPhone 17 also supports Cinematic Videos, which I use pretty heavily.) Many of the newest features, such as Center Stage and Dual Capture, are available across Apple's latest lineup -- you won't have to cough up more cash and upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max to tap into them.

90% Apple iPhone 17 Review: Feature Upgrades Make It the Best iPhone to Buy This Year
Quelle: PC Mag Englisch EN→DE
The iPhone 17 is the best iPhone for most people, bar none. The gap between the standard iPhone and the Pro models has never been narrower, which means the iPhone 17 has a compelling value over the others. It has the best screen ever to grace the front of a standard iPhone and combines that with long battery life, excellent cameras, competitive wireless performance, punchy audio, and a design fit for everyone. The iPhone Air may have more aesthetic appeal, but it has a limited camera setup, shorter battery life, and slower performance. Although the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have superior media capture tools, many of the features are sufficiently advanced that regular folks may not need them. If you're in the market for a new phone, the Apple iPhone 17 easily wins our Editors' Choice thanks to its excellent value and performance.

iPhone 17 Canadian review: More value than ever before
Quelle: Mobile Syrup Englisch EN→DE
If you’ve got a vowel in your name, you’ll probably be pretty happy with an iPhone 17 ($1,129). It’s a small-ish phone that can be used comfortably in one hand, takes great pictures and even has the same screen as the Pro models. If you really don’t care about specs at all, you can also get the iPhone 16e from last year, which will offer similar performance in the long run but has fewer features for a reduced price. Photographers will likely gravitate to the iPhone 17 Pro for its larger sensors and telephoto lens, but if you already have another camera that you like to use, the regular 17 can be a great secondary shooter, and with a little elbow grease, you can get amazing shots out of it. Canadians who used to own the Plus-sized iPhone model, like the 14 or 15 Plus and are looking for something with a bigger screen will need to step up to the ultra-thin Air and lose access to the ultra-wide lens, or step over to the iPhone 17 Pro Max that costs $1,749 (roughly $600 more than the standard 17).

iPhone 17 vs iPhone 17 Pro: The base iPhone suddenly makes a lot more sense
Quelle: Phone Arena Englisch EN→DE
The iPhone 17 finally feels like the iPhone most people wanted years ago. With a 120Hz display, brighter screen, 48 MP ultrawide, and 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera, it no longer lags far behind the Pro. Add in the longer battery life and faster charging, and the $799 model sounds like a much better deal, especially considering the unchanged price tag with double the storage of its predecessor. The iPhone 17 Pro is still the choice for power users. Its telephoto zoom camera, larger main sensor, A19 Pro chip with vapor chamber cooling, and USB 3 port make it the obvious pick for creators. The advanced video suite (ProRes RAW, Apple Log, Genlock) further solidifies it as the iPhone for professionals. For most people, though, the regular iPhone 17 seems to cover the essentials so well that the Pro is harder to justify. Unless you need pro-grade video tools, extended zoom, or 1TB of storage, it sounds like the base iPhone 17 will finally do the job.
