EN→DEWith all the attention that the iPhone Air has been getting and the buzz surrounding the bold new orange color of the iPhone 17 Pro series, the iPhone 17 seems to be quietly sitting in the background. That is a shame because it truly deserves more recognition. If you are in the market for a new iPhone, the iPhone 17 might just be the smartest buy right now. It strikes the perfect balance between performance, features, battery life and even price. The price starting at RM3,999 for 256GB and RM4,999 for the 512GB actually hits the perfect spot. Save the trouble of getting the iPhone Air and get the iPhone 17 512GB variant instead. The extra bucks that you will save? Get the new Apple Watch Series 11 together and elevate your ecosystem experience.

EN→DEOf this year’s new Standard, Air, Pro and Pro Max iPhones, this Standard iPhone 17 is certainly the pick of the bunch when it comes to value for money, encroaching further and further into Pro territory while retaining the base model price tag. Rather than the Pro versions tempting people to step up, I’d argue that the Apple iPhone 17 will tempt people to step down from a Pro model. Current Pro owners who are ready to upgrade but currently tight on cash will have to seriously consider whether they make enough of the Pro’s remaining extra features like the telephoto lens, ProRAW support and larger battery to justify the extra expense.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 addresses years of user frustration by adding several standout, much-needed features that were previously exclusive to the Pro models. Thus, it marks a pivotal moment in Apple's vanilla line of handsets, with its core strengths lying in display, cameras, and battery life. It gets the latest Apple chipset, a 120Hz ProMotion display, and a larger battery that charges quicker — upgrades that many of us have been crying out for years. With the integration of these features, it finally delivers a flagship-level experience without entering the price territory of the Pro models. The iPhone 17 is one of the most sensible upgrades introduced by Apple in years, which pushes the vanilla iPhone ahead of many of its competitors, mainly the Galaxy S25 (review). It marks a monumental shift in Apple's product strategy and positions itself as the most value-for-money iPhone you can buy —and perhaps the only one you'll need.

EN→DEEven after all that, I love this device for many reasons, and Apple deserves credit for pushing the boundaries of what we expect from our phones. In an age of oversized devices chasing camera counts and battery capacity, the iPhone Air 17 strips everything back — and that’s what makes it so appealing. It’s not meant to be the Pro alternative or even a mass-market standard; it’s Apple’s statement on where the company is willing to experiment again. There’s something refreshingly old-school about that — an echo of the first iPhone’s focus on restraint and design. The iPhone Air 17 isn’t perfect. It runs slightly warm under stress, takes its time charging and can’t replace a Pro when users need serious content-creation power. But it’s Apple’s most interesting phone in years — not because it does more, but because it dares to do less, deliberately and elegantly.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 display delivers a refined and well-balanced performance across all key display parameters, with standout improvements in touch responsiveness and a marked boost in readability over its predecessor. In terms of readability, the iPhone 17 offers a clear and noticeably upgraded viewing experience. Although its reflectance control falls just short of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s efficiency, it still surpasses most rivals, maintaining strong legibility even under direct sunlight. Its excellent peak brightness ensures text and visuals remain visible in challenging lighting conditions. In darker environments, however, the default brightness level is somewhat low, which may reduce visual comfort until manually adjusted to suit user preferences. Color rendering on the iPhone 17 is impressively accurate when True Tone is disabled, while still delivering a pleasant and natural look when it’s enabled.

EN→DEIf you live on a film set or insist on photographing your pets from across the room, get an iPhone Pro. If you’re obsessed with owning Apple’s second-thinnest device ever (if you completely ignore the camera bar that makes that bit as thick as a standard iPhone) and don’t mind the extra expense and the huge compromises that are its single speaker and single camera, buy an iPhone Air. And have a word with yourself. Everyone else: get the iPhone 17. At $799/£799 for the 256GB version, it’s still not cheap, and some Android blowers net you a dedicated telephoto lens at that price. But as a total package, the iPhone 17 is a knockout with no glaring omissions. It’s the iPhone most people should buy this year. As for next year. I’ll tempt fate by repeating my prediction from last time, but with extra confidence: the iPhone 18 surely can’t get any closer to the Pro. Can it?

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 may not look all that different from last year’s model, but it is a meaningful upgrade on all the standard model iPhones that have come before. That’s because it has key features pulled down from Apple’s pricier Pro models, including a significantly better, brighter and 120Hz-smooth screen. It’s a must-have feature that has been standard on rival phones for years. The always-on display is super handy too, while double the starting storage to 256GB and about two-day battery life is very welcome. For the first time in many years, using the iPhone 17 doesn’t feel like a significant downgrade from the Pro models. The dual camera on the back is good, but the lack of a telephoto option keeps it from being great. The iPhone 17 still feels compact for a modern phone, and while not quite as featherlight as the iPhone Air, it isn’t exactly heavy. Unless you need a camera zoom, the standard iPhone 17 is the one to get for Apple buyers. It’s great.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 is Apple’s best base phone in years. It checks several boxes that its predecessors didn’t and overcomes most of the complaints I had in previous years, such as a lackluster 60Hz screen and slow charging. At $799, it’s a no-brainer for most people who are upgrading from a phone that’s a couple of generations old, and unless you want a telephoto lens or plan to play a lot of demanding games, there’s not much reason to splurge for the Pro either.

I actually think it compares better with the iPhone 17 Pro, as it offers all of the key features - great camera, beautiful display, 256GB of storage, fast performance, and long battery life — for less money. The question, however, is whether you'll go for the regular-looking iPhone when you can get the sexier and thinner iPhone Air? My advice: Check them both out in person, then decide. Let’s not kid ourselves: we’re all locked into the ecosystem and sooner or later, we’ll be buying another iPhone. iPhone super fans and big spenders will enjoy the Pro models this year, and those who want a pocket-sized talking point will opt for the Air. But for the rest of us, who likely have an ageing model and are wondering whether it’s worth going for the new iPhone 17 or getting last year’s model at a discount, I’d say that this is the year to invest in a shiny new phone. EN→DEThe iPhone 17 is likely to be the mass-market seller from the current line-up of the iPhone series, and you get a lot of good stuff for your cash. It’s not a massive leap forward from the iPhone 16, but there are some improvements which are worth having. Most obviously, the increased resolution for the ultrawide camera, plus the new square sensor for the selfie camera, enabling the useful horizontal / vertical switching options. There have also been some other non-camera improvements, such as a better battery life and screen. In fact the screen is the same as you’ll find on the more expensive iPhone 17 Pro, so you’re getting a good deal there. EN→DEThe iPhone 17 finally feels like the base model Apple should have delivered years ago. The 120Hz ProMotion display makes it as smooth and premium as its Pro siblings, the dual 48MP cameras deliver consistent results across lighting conditions, and the new 18MP selfie camera is genuinely delightful to use. The A19 chip continues Apple’s streak of class-leading performance, and despite only modest battery gains, efficiency remains solid with faster charging to sweeten the deal. More importantly, the iPhone 17 doesn’t feel like a compromise anymore. It’s no longer the “entry-level” iPhone you buy because the Pro is too expensive. It’s the iPhone most people should buy. Unless you absolutely need a telephoto lens, titanium frame, or the Air’s ultra-thin profile, this is the most well-rounded iPhone for everyday users. If you’re using an iPhone 16 or older base model, the iPhone 17 is worth upgrading to.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. It may look very similar to its predecessor, but firing up that glorious new display proves that it's more than just an iterative update over the excellent iPhone 16. Long-awaited features such as 120Hz variable refresh rates and an always-on display mode are no longer the sole preserve of Pro-series devices, and they’re backed up with a picture and sound performance that seriously impresses. EN→DEIt’s easy to see why the iPhone 17 is the best standard iPhone Apple has made in years. Much of this is because of its display. After so long, it finally has the display that it deserves. The rest of the phone is also mostly excellent. Performance is top-notch, the main camera takes great photos, and its battery life is decent. Furthermore, it now gets 256GB of storage as standard, making it a better value than its predecessors. It offers such strong value now that it makes the iPhone 16E look overpriced. Apple will certainly need to update the iPhone 16E soon. But it’s not perfect. Some will grumble that Apple intentionally keeps certain features exclusive to the Pro iPhones, and it can be argued that a phone of this price should really come with three cameras, not just two. We are also missing any significant new AI feature.

EN→DEI started this review wondering if Apple played it too safe with the iPhone 17 or if the subtle upgrades were enough to keep it relevant. The truth is, while the wow factor now belongs to the Pro lineup, the standard iPhone has never been this balanced. It delivers great performance, strong battery life, and a display that finally feels flagship-level, all without the Pro price tag. Sure, I would have liked to see a telephoto lens, but Apple doubled the base storage without raising the price, and for most people, that is a much more meaningful change. I would not recommend upgrading from the iPhone 16 or even the iPhone 15 if the battery still gets you through the day. With a 120Hz display, brighter screen, 48 MP ultrawide, and 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera, it should now be the go to iPhone for anyone who isn't looking for those very special and niche Pro fetures on the iPhone 17 Pro. Not to mention that you get 256 GB of storage for the same price as last year's base model. The iPhone 17 Pro, on the other hand, lives up to its name more than any other Pro iPhone that came before it. EN→DEMoving from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 17 feels like a real step up. The 13 was solid in its time, but mine had started slowing down and the battery couldn’t last the day. Moreover, it had a limited 128GB storage in the base model. The iPhone 17 is faster, smoother, and the camera upgrade is something you notice right away, especially in low light. Little things like the Action Button, Camera Control, and USB-C just make daily use easier. I feel the battery can still dip faster on busy days, but overall, the iPhone 17 feels like the kind of upgrade that makes everyday use less of a struggle and more enjoyable. If you are still holding onto the iPhone 13, you may not notice how much it has aged until you hold the iPhone 17. Good thing, the base model comes with 256GB storage.

EN→DEThis brings me to the end of this review, and after spending time with the iPhone 17, I think that Apple has cut the right corners on this phone. Like, if you compare it with the iPhone 17 Pro, for instance, there are 5 things it doesn’t have: a 4x Telephoto lens, VC cooling, a new design, a faster USB protocol, and a faster “Pro” performance. All of these things, in my opinion, might not matter to a normal iPhone user. The iPhone 17 still has a great display, good performance, compact form factor, enduring battery life and nice cameras, and a much-needed faster refresh rate! So, for a common person, spending more than NPR 60,000 – 70,000 rupees more to get a “Pro iPhone” does not make sense. In fact, the iPhone 17 is a really good upgrade for someone who is an iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 user.

What's more, every one of those carriers is probably offering you a deal to get the phone for "free" as long as you pinky-promise (read: sign a long and legally binding contract) not to leave before two or three years are up. Overall, I like the iPhone 17 a lot, and I think it's the iPhone that most people should buy. You're missing out on a telephoto camera with this phone if you're comparing with the iPhone 17 Pro. That's important to me, but I understand your mileage may vary. But I've been surprised by how easy it is to enjoy this phone, even above its Pro counterpart.

EN→DEThe base iPhone has never been a better value than it is now with the iPhone 17. Still $799, the same price the iPhone has maintained since the iPhone 12, this year’s base iPhone receives a pro-level display that’s bigger, brighter, faster, and will stay on even when the phone is locked. Better yet, the iPhone 17 has doubled its storage from 128GB to 256GB for no extra cost – crazy in this economy. The iPhone 17 feels significantly faster, thanks to both the new ProMotion display and the A19 chip. Meanwhile, selfies have never been easier with the new 24MP square-shaped sensor, which can automatically rotate and zoom to fit all your friends and family. The ultrawide camera has been upgraded to 48MP to match the main camera, although a dedicated telephoto camera is still not available.

iPhone 17 Review: 1 Week Later! It's not the Pro, Air, or Max, but iPhone 17 packs a brighter display, better cameras front and back, faster performance, and stronger battery life. At $799 with more base storage, it’s a quietly important iPhone that deserves more attention…

Today I am going to show you the best way to transfer ALL of your data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone. I have made a similar video last year which has helped thousands of people, but since then Apple have changed some things in iOS26 and I have also received some good questions from you that I will answer as we go. I will be transferring from my iPhone 16 Pro to my new iPhone 17 Pro Max but the same process will apply for all recent iPhone models. This transfer will carry over everything: your apps, music, photos, messages, and even your wallpaper and settings. Trust me, this is will save you a lot of time and will essentially mirror your old iPhone onto your new iPhone! And at the end of the video I will also show you how to erase your old iPhone so you can safely sell it or pass it on without sharing any of your data.

EN→DEThis time, the new iPhone model doesn’t just refine the formula but redefines what the standard iPhone can be. By giving iPhone 17 the same display as the Pro, doubling storage, upgrading the camera setup, adding faster charging support, and dramatically boosting graphics, Apple has reduced the reasons to get a Pro over the Standard iPhone. For buyers in India, where iPhones carry a premium price tag, the iPhone 17 finally feels like a justifiable investment. Unless you specifically need the 17 Pro’s telephoto lens, faster chip, or faster USB speeds, the regular iPhone 17 is the smarter choice this year.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 might not grab headlines like the Air or Pro models, but it quietly fixes many of the frustrations with previous base iPhones. The 120Hz display finally makes it feel like a modern flagship, the brighter panel and always-on mode are nice quality-of-life upgrades, and the new Dual Fusion cameras sound like a genuine step up, particularly for ultra-wide shots. Add the A19 chip and a slightly larger battery with faster charging, and the iPhone 17 starts looking like the most sensible buy in this year’s lineup. Of course, I’ll need more time to test whether the battery can truly last longer, if the cameras deliver consistent results across conditions, and how much of a difference the A19 chip makes in sustained performance.

EN→DEApple finally gave the vanilla iPhone the two upgrades that matter most day-to-day: a premium 120 Hz LTPO display (with thin bezels) and usable base storage. A meaningfully better selfie camera, an upgraded 48 MP ultrawide (with AF for macro) and finally some progress in terms of charging speed make this the best rounded vanilla model Apple has ever made. It is also by far the easiest iPhone to recommend in the 2025 lineup. It's not like it's flawless, but none of the downsides are actually deal-breakers. The A19's lack of a vapor chamber means noticeable heat and throttling under sustained load, but how often are you even going to push it that hard. The stereo speakers are quieter than last year's, the USB port still operates at 2.0 speeds, and Apple has effectively capped the brightness to 1,000 nits in what we assume is an attempt to extend battery life. iOS 26 brings Liquid Glass, but lacks polish.

EN→DEThe screen is one of the iPhone Pro's best features, and the iPhone 17 gets it this year. That plus the 256GB storage bump is pretty much all you need to know; this will be a more noticeable upgrade for anyone with, say, the iPhones 12-to-14 than the iPhone 15 or 16 was. And for $799—$200 more than the 128GB version of the iPhone 16e and $100 more than the 128GB version of the iPhone 16—it's by far the iPhone lineup's best value for money right now. This is also happening at the same time as the iPhone Pro is getting a much chonkier new design, one I don't particularly love the look of, even though I appreciate the functional camera and battery upgrades it enables. This year's Pro feels like a phone targeted toward people who are actually using it in a professional photography or videography context, where in other years, it's felt more like "the regular iPhone plus a bunch of nice, broadly appealing quality-of-life stuff that may or may not trickle down to the regular iPhone over time."

EN→DEIf you've been holding off on upgrading from your older iPhone, now is the perfect time to do that, as the iPhone 17 finally addresses most of the hardware elephants in the room. We finally get a very bright and super-smooth display on the base iPhone, which had been limited to 60 Hz for far too long. The wired charging speed also scores an important upgrade that cuts down the time your iPhone has to spend plugged in. The camera continues to be extremely dependable and consistent, and you now get a plentiful 256GB of storage to house all those pictures and videos you capture. Pair all that with the fairly sensible pricing, and what you're left with is pretty much the perfect iPhone for just about anybody.

EN→DEThe baseline iPhone is never really meant to turn heads when stacked against the rest of Apple's lineup. But a handful of notable upgrades on the iPhone 17 make it a worthy contender if you're in the market for a new device that ticks the basics. Improvements to the display and camera help the iPhone 17 feel like it's really worth that $829 price, and can make it an enticing option if you don't want to spend upwards of $1,100 on a Pro model. The dual rear camera system also makes it feel like more of a practical option if you take a lot of photos and videos than the iPhone Air, which has only one rear camera. (Unlike the Air, the iPhone 17 also supports Cinematic Videos, which I use pretty heavily.) Many of the newest features, such as Center Stage and Dual Capture, are available across Apple's latest lineup -- you won't have to cough up more cash and upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max to tap into them.

EN→DEWord on the street is that Apple’s new iPhone lineup is getting appreciation for its vanilla variant. While the iPhone 17 Pro models pack all the heavy tech, the iPhone 17 manages to steal the show with its incremental upgrades. When it landed in our test lab, I had to put it through its paces, and I have things to tell! It’s been ages since Apple has been teasing fans by packing all the good stuff into its Pro models. The base iPhones, for the longest time, were mostly about a rich experience, a sleek UI, and let’s be honest, a little bit of show-off. Every year in our reviews, we had the same question: when will the base models get their fair share? Things started to change with the iPhone 16 series. For the first time, Apple brought parity on the software front, as vanilla iPhone 16 users got all the latest iOS 18 features, including Apple Intelligence, just like the Pros.

EN→DEIf you have your eye on an iPhone 17 Pro because you think the Pro models are the only good handsets Apple makes, the base model iPhone 17 should come as a wake-up call for you. Dramatic improvements to the display, the Center Stage selfie cam, twice as much storage and many other enhancements make it closer to the Pro versions than ever. One of the standout features of the base model iPhone 17 is the $799 starting price, the same as last year’s model. But Apple’s newest includes 256GB of storage, while the iPhone 16 with that much capacity sold for $899. That means the new model is effectively $100 cheaper than its predecessor. And the iPhone 17 costs $300 less than the iPhone 17 Pro. Given the close competition between the base model 17 versus the 17 Pro, think hard before putting down the extra cash. iPhone 17 brings some real upgrades over previous years' models, including an always-on, 120Hz ProMotion display, a much-improved Center Stage selfie camera and a minimum of 256GB storage.

EN→DEI’ve long recommended the basic iPhone as the best option for the average person but never as emphatically as I have with the iPhone 17. This is one of the biggest leaps Apple’s standard iPhone has taken in a while, with some of the best performance and battery life you can find in a modern phone alongside a full suite of Pro-level features. I typically tell people to wait at least two generations before upgrading their phone, and that holds true here; if you own an iPhone 15 or older, you’ll notice a significant difference in speed and overall features. But even impatient annual upgraders will find plenty to love here, from the ProMotion display that makes using an iPhone that much more pleasant to the new camera features that you no longer have to shell out extra for by purchasing a Pro.

EN→DEWith the most significant update in years, the iPhone 17 is an easy choice for an upgrade for most people. Even if you’re coming from the iPhone 16, you’ll reap the benefits of the overhauled display and improved cameras. I don’t say any of that lightly as I’m not a person who recommends getting a new phone every year. Most of the time, there simply aren't compelling enough changes to warrant it. That’s not the case this year, and if you’re coming from an iPhone that’s a few years old, you’ll likely feel as if you’ve stepped into the future. I went into this review expecting to be eager to return to my iPhone 16 Plus when I was through testing. And while I do prefer the larger device after using it for a year, the updates Apple has amassed on the iPhone 17 — especially the Center Stage camera — have appeased that desire… for now.

EN→DENext to the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the packed-to-gills iPhone 17 Pro/17 Pro Max, the iPhone 17 looks unremarkable—boring, even. The three new colors other than black and white are less vibrant than the shades the iPhone 16 came in. But peel back a few layers and things become clear: the iPhone 17, starting at $799, is in fact a remarkable value, providing a ton of bang for your buck. Besides the slight growth of the screen from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, the iPhone 17 is cosmetically similar to the iPhone 16. If the iPhone Air is the new premium model and the iPhone 17 Pros are the most powerful, then the iPhone 17 is the everyman’s iPhone. It has more than enough solid upgrades over last year’s model, but not as many as the iPhone 17 Pros. The iPhone 17 is not going to wow anyone with its industrial design, but underneath it all, it’s a trooper that goes the distance. It’s the iPhone you get if you want the Goldilocks experience.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 is the best iPhone for most people, bar none. The gap between the standard iPhone and the Pro models has never been narrower, which means the iPhone 17 has a compelling value over the others. It has the best screen ever to grace the front of a standard iPhone and combines that with long battery life, excellent cameras, competitive wireless performance, punchy audio, and a design fit for everyone. The iPhone Air may have more aesthetic appeal, but it has a limited camera setup, shorter battery life, and slower performance. Although the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have superior media capture tools, many of the features are sufficiently advanced that regular folks may not need them. If you're in the market for a new phone, the Apple iPhone 17 easily wins our Editors' Choice thanks to its excellent value and performance.

EN→DEIf you’ve got a vowel in your name, you’ll probably be pretty happy with an iPhone 17 ($1,129). It’s a small-ish phone that can be used comfortably in one hand, takes great pictures and even has the same screen as the Pro models. If you really don’t care about specs at all, you can also get the iPhone 16e from last year, which will offer similar performance in the long run but has fewer features for a reduced price. Photographers will likely gravitate to the iPhone 17 Pro for its larger sensors and telephoto lens, but if you already have another camera that you like to use, the regular 17 can be a great secondary shooter, and with a little elbow grease, you can get amazing shots out of it. Canadians who used to own the Plus-sized iPhone model, like the 14 or 15 Plus and are looking for something with a bigger screen will need to step up to the ultra-thin Air and lose access to the ultra-wide lens, or step over to the iPhone 17 Pro Max that costs $1,749 (roughly $600 more than the standard 17).

EN→DEI’ve always been a staunch supporter of the base iPhone model, and this year’s no different as the iPhone 17 offers one of the best bang-for-the-buck deals in recent memory. That’s due to an assortment of things, like how it offers double the storage capacity at 256GB, a smoother 120Hz display refresh rate, faster 30W wired charging speeds and a larger display. You get all of that at the same $799 cost as last year’s model, which I think is a big deal. The only downside is that the iPhone 17 lacks new Apple Intelligence features to keep pace with its rivals, which is hard to overlook given how the Pixel 10 showcases its robust AI features.

EN→DEWe're a long way from the days when a new iPhone launch just meant one new phone. It shifted to "basically the same phone in two sizes" a decade or so ago, and then to a version of "one lineup of regular phones and one lineup of Pro phones" in 2017 when the iPhone 8 was introduced next to the iPhone X. But thanks to Apple's newly introduced iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 lineup gives new phone buyers more choices and trade-offs than they've ever had before. Apple's phones are now available in a spectrum of sizes, weights, speeds, costs, and camera configurations. And while options are great to have, it also means you need to know more about which one to pick. We've gone hands-on with all four of Apple's new phones, and while more extensive tire-kicking will be required, we can at least try to nail down exactly what kind of person each of these phones is for.

EN→DEThe iPhone 17 finally feels like the iPhone most people wanted years ago. With a 120Hz display, brighter screen, 48 MP ultrawide, and 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera, it no longer lags far behind the Pro. Add in the longer battery life and faster charging, and the $799 model sounds like a much better deal, especially considering the unchanged price tag with double the storage of its predecessor. The iPhone 17 Pro is still the choice for power users. Its telephoto zoom camera, larger main sensor, A19 Pro chip with vapor chamber cooling, and USB 3 port make it the obvious pick for creators. The advanced video suite (ProRes RAW, Apple Log, Genlock) further solidifies it as the iPhone for professionals. For most people, though, the regular iPhone 17 seems to cover the essentials so well that the Pro is harder to justify. Unless you need pro-grade video tools, extended zoom, or 1TB of storage, it sounds like the base iPhone 17 will finally do the job.
