Motorola beweist mit dem Edge 70 Fusion einmal mehr, dass man seiner eigenen Linie treu bleibt. Während alle anderen Hersteller auf eckige Gehäusedesigns setzen, bleibt Motorola beim handschmeichelnden Formfaktor und beweist, dass ein 6,78 Zoll großes Smartphone nicht zwangsläufig klobig sein muss. Insgesamt ist das Edge 70 Fusion eine logische Weiterentwicklung des Edge 60 Fusion. Dennoch spart Motorola hier gegenüber dem teureren Edge 70 an den vermeintlich falschen Stellen. Die Ultraweitwinkelkamera ist hier definitiv nicht für mehr als Schnappschüsse geeignet. Zudem muss man bei Motorolas Edge-Reihe konsequent auf eine Zoomlinse verzichten. Auch beim Prozessor macht man Abstriche. Zwar reicht der Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 für die meisten Apps im Alltag aus, dennoch erhält man bei der Konkurrenz in der gleichen Preisklasse einfach mehr Leistung. Ein prominentes Beispiel, an dem sich das Motorola Edge 70 Fusion messen muss, ist etwa das Poco X8 Pro (zum Test). Auch hier rückt die Ultraweitwinkelkamera eher in den Hintergrund, dafür erhält man deutlich mehr Leistung und die hochwertigeren Materialien bei Gehäuse und Rückseite. Dass man die Wahl zwischen schmalerem Gehäuse mit kleinerem Akku und größerem Akku mit dickerem Gehäuse hat, ist im Kern eine gute Sache.

Das Motorola Edge 70 Fusion setzt auf ein schlankes, elegantes Design mit einem angenehm leichten Gehäuse. Im Test überzeugt das Mittelklasse-Handy neben seiner hochwertigen Haptik auch durch eine solide Technik. Das knapp 6,8 Zoll große OLED-Display liefert scharfe Bilder, sehr weiche Bewegungen und eine hohe Spitzenhelligkeit, die auch bei Sonne eine gute Ablesbarkeit ermöglicht. Im Inneren liefert der Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 zwar keine Spitzenwerte, erlaubt im Alltag aber eine zügige und zuverlässige Bedienung. Der große Akku hält im Test bis zu 19,5 Stunden durch und bringt das Edge 70 Fusion damit sicher über den Tag. Per Kabel ist das Smartphone schnell wieder voll, kabelloses Laden steht aber nicht zur Verfügung.

If you’re looking for a reliable camera and excellent stamina for under £400, the Edge 70 Fusion will serve you well. But standing in its way is the Honor Magic 8 Lite, which achieves slightly longer battery life while also offering twice the storage capacity, improved software support and, at the time of writing, a lower asking price of £350. I was less impressed with the cameras, however, with the ultrawide in particular being one of the weakest I’ve tested. If camera quality is a high priority for you, I’d still stick with the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion.
