Das Design, schlicht und klassisch, gefällt gut und kann in dieser Kombination ebenfalls nichts falsch machen. Die Performance reicht sowohl für flüssiges Surfen als auch zur Youtube-Wiedergabe bis hin zu 720p.

Wie oben schon mehrmals angemerkt, gehen die Grundideen in die richtige Richtung. In der Praxis gibt es aber zu viele Einschränkungen oder Dinge die einfach viel komplizierter sind als z.B. über andere bekannte Betriebssysteme. Die Zeit, die wir beim Einrichten und Booten gespart haben, wurden dann wieder dadurch zunichte gemacht, dass selbst einfachste Dinge nicht lösbar waren oder eben nur sehr umständlich.

There is a mini VGA adapter in the box and this can allow you to hook it up to a separate panel but I found the 1280x800 crisp and sharp at the moment there is no Java or for that matter Silverlight.

A simple platform for everyday users remains a tempting prospect; unfortunately, those we gave the Chromebook to in order to test the theory generally came back with questions about file support and other issues. In short, the problems had migrated from over-complexity in a regular notebook to under-complexity in the Samsung. We spend a lot of our time in the browser, yes, but not all of it, and ironically Chrome OS does a very good job of reminding us of that fact. If it was priced to suit its part-time companion functionality – perhaps a hundred or so less off the MRSP – then it would make far more sense. As it stands, though, we’d still opt for a regular notebook over Chrome OS.

We like that the stability issues (namely with Flash support) in the Cr-48 have been fixed, but the Chrome OS still feels like a work in progress. The Series 5 is great for watching video, playing casual games, and doing light tasks such as creating spreadsheets and documents, but it really can't handle much more heavy lifting. A fast boot time and bookmarks masquerading as apps can't make up for the fact that we can't use Google Docs offline, we have to hunt around for our local files, or that the Series 5 can only deal with one peripheral at a time. Consumers looking for an ultraportable system under $500 would do better with the AMD-powered ASUS Eee PC 1215B ($439), or its Nvidia Ion brother, the 1215N ($469), which offer much better performance and a full Windows operating system for around the same price.

Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

AMD Radeon HD 7550M: Selber Chip der Radeon HD 6630M jedoch nur mit 64 Bit Speicherbandbreite. Je nach Version mit verschiedenen Taktraten und Speicherausstattung. Die GDDR5 Version ist langsamer getaktet aber insgesamt etwas schneller als die DDR3 Version mit höheren Chiptaktraten.

AMD Radeon HD 6640G2: Dual Graphics (asymmetrisches CrossFire) einer dedizierten Radeon HD 6450M bzw. 6470M in Verbindung mit einer Radeon HD 6520G bzw. 6620G APU Grafikkarte (z.B. im AMD A8-3500M).

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N570: Doppelkernprozessor für Netbooks. Durch die Taktung von 1.66 GHz etwas schneller als der N550 Dual-Core aber immer noch hinter CULV Prozessoren. Unterstützt DDR3 Hauptspeicher.

Intel Core i5:

2467M: Stromspar-Doppelkernprozessor mit nur 1.6 GHz Basisfrequenz aber einem Turbo bis zu 2.3 GHz (bei ausreichender Kühlung). Integriert die Intel HD Graphics 3000 (jedoch nur mit 350 - 1150 MHz Taktung) und einen DDR3-1333 Speicherkontroller.

A8-3520M: Llano Quad-Core APU mit maximaler Taktung von 1.6-2.5 GHz (TurboCore) mit integrierter Radeon 6620G (400 Kerne, 400MHz) Grafikkarte.

12.1: Es handelt sich um ein relativ häufiges Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Es stellt die durchschnittliche Grösse für Subnotebooks dar. Netbooks dagegen haben noch kleinere Displays. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Der kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten etwas anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar.

13.3: 13 Zoll ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das verhältnismäßig kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten ein wenig anstrengend für die Augen ist. Sehr hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar. Nicht fehlsichtige Menschen sollten mit dieser Displaygröße aber zurechtkommen können.

14.0: 14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und dem 15 Zoll-Standard-Display dar. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.

17.3: 17 Zoll Displaygrösse ist ein seit 2006 häufig angebotenes Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.

Dieses Subnotebook/Netbook gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt nur wenige Sub-Notebooks/Netbooks, die noch leichter sind. 10 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

2.7 kg:

Dieses Notebook ist etwas leichter als der Durchschnitt aller Notebooks. Für Subnotebooks ist das bereits zu schwer. 14 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

67.55%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Die meisten Notebooks werden besser beurteilt. Als Kaufempfehlung darf man das nicht sehen. Auch wenn Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich gar nicht so schlecht klingen ("genügend" oder "befriedigend"), meist sind es Euphemismen, die eine Klassifikation als unterdurchschnittliches Notebook verschleiern.
