With convincing results across the board and no major flaws, the Mi 9 is the third-best device so far for still imaging, edged out only by Huawei juggernauts Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro. In video mode it does even better, finding itself at the very top of our ranking, making it the top choice for mobile video shooters. This is partly due to the Mi 9 being the first test device recording 4K video by default and therefore scoring very high for texture and detail, but it also puts in a very good performance in all other test categories.

Modell: Von Anfang an war die Mi-Serie die Flagship-Serie Xiaomis Produktpalette. Während andere Modelle wie das Pocophone und die Mi Max-Serie echte Schnäppchen sind, bietet die Mi-Serie das Beste zu einem erheblich günstigeren Preis. Heute sind die Hauptkonkurrenten die One Plus, Honor View und Huawei P Serien. Genau wie das Mi 8 hat auch das diesjährige Mi 9 ein Glas-Sandwich-Design. Das Frontglas ist aus Gorilla Glass 6 und die Rückseite aus Gorilla Glass 5, während die Seiten aus polierten Metallrahmen bestehen. Das Mi 9 ist in den üblichen Farben Piano Black, Ocean Blue und Lavender Violet erhältlich. Letzteres is aktuell die weitem interessanteste Farbe für ein Telefon. Das Telefon misst 157,5 x 74,7 x 7,6 mm und wiegt 173 Gramm. Der einzige Nachteil des Designs ist, dass die Kamera vorsteht. Die starke Wölbung erschwert eine Nutzung des Phones auf ebener Fläche. Das Mi 9 verfügt über ein 6,39 Zoll großes AMOLED-Display mit Full-HD+-Auflösung. Das Bildschirm-zu-Gehäuse-Verhältnis beträgt 85,2 %. Dies ist nicht das beste, sieht aber trotzdem ziemlich beeindruckend aus. Die Notch wurde auf eine unempfindlichere Tränenform reduziert. Dies erlaubt jedoch keine ausgefeiltere Gesichtserkennungshardware, wie sie normalerweise bei Face-Unlock verwendet wird. Dafür befindet sich unter dem Bildschirm ein Fingerabdruckleser. Beim Mi 8 war diese Funktion nur in der teuersten Konfiguration verfügbar.

Das Mi 9 ist mit starker Hardware bestückt, um seinem Flagship-Status gerecht zu werden. Für anspruchsvolle Smartphone-Spiele verfügt es über einen Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mit Adreno 640 GPU. Es stehen zwei Konfigurationen zur Auswahl: 64 GB interner Speicher und 6 GB RAM oder 128 GB interner Speicher und 8 GB RAM. Bei beiden Varianten gibt es keine Möglichkeit zur Speichererweiterung. Das Mi 9 bietet eine Triple-Kamera an der Rückseite. Die erste Kamera ist ein 48 MP, 27 mm Weitwinkelobjektiv mit einer Brennweite von 1,8. Die zweite ist ein 13-mm-Ultrawide-Objektiv mit 16 MP und einer Brennweite von 2,2. Die letzte ist ein 12 MP, 54 mm Teleobjektiv mit einer Brennweite von 2,2 für Porträts. Um es noch eindrucksvoller zu machen, verfügt die Kamera über 2-fachen optischen Zoom. An der Vorderseite befindet sich eine 20 MP 1: 2,0-Kamera mit HDR. Die rückwärtige Kamera nimmt Videos in 4k auf, die Frontkamera mit 1080p. Das Mi 9 hat keine Kopfhörerbuchse. Die Stromversorgung erfolgt über einen 3300-mAh-Akku, der die QuickCharge-4+-Standards für Fast-Charging via dem USB-Typ-C-Anschluss an der Unterseite unterstützt. Auch schnelles kabelloses Laden wird unterstützt. Sein Preis macht das Mi 9 zu einem wahren Schnäppchen. Es ist ein ernstzunehmendes Flagship, das mit der Samsung Galaxy- und Huawei P-Serie konkurriert. Es bietet starke Leistung ohne Nachteile bei Spezifikationen oder Design wie das Pocophone. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass Huawei in Kürze das P30 auf den Markt bringen wird, könnten potenzielle Käufer jedoch noch warten wollen, bevor sie sich entscheiden.

SD 855: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2018 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen "Prime Core" mit bis zu 2,84 GHz und drei weitere schnelle Cortex-A76 basierende Performance-Kerne. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A55 Kerne verbaut.
