Like the Inspirons, the Vostro laptops offer a decent selection of components at a sub-$1,000 starting price. Small-business owners who would otherwise buy a consumer laptop should consider the full-featured, 13.3-inch Dell Vostro 1310.

Overall, the Dell Vostro 1310 is an impressive budget notebook with clean looks and solid performance. Whether you need a simple business notebook or a budget portable laptop with modest gaming capabilities, the Vostro 1310 makes an excellent choice. That said, the chassis isn't as nice as we hoped ... the edges are sharp and could be smoother or more rounded, the case feels more flimsy than the earlier Vostros, the Touchpad button placement is bad, and the mono speaker does not provide a good audio experience. Still, none of these issues are "deal breakers." The other huge advantage to the Vostro line is the support, lack of bloatware, and excellent return policy. Dell will let you purchase a Vostro, use it for 30 days, and if you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund without any restocking or shipping fees. That's just amazing. In short, the Vostro 1310 is an excellent addition to the Vostro family and gives business professionals and consumers on a budget a low-cost alternative to the Dell XPS M1330.

The addition of the Dell Vostro 1310 ($1,258 direct) to the Vostro line is almost like bringing a supermodel into a team of geeks. Don't get me wrong—the other Vostros are far from underachievers, but they lack the style and the travel-friendliness that today's small-business users tend to look for. Low prices, multiple configuration options, and a "no-trialware" option should make the Dell Vostro 1310 laptop a start-up favorite.

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS: Für Gelegenheitsspieler ausreichende Grafikleistung, jedoch durch den nur 64 Bit breiten Speicherbus deutlich geringere Grafikleistung als die 8400M GT. Für DirectX 10 Effekte (trotz Unterstützung) jedoch deutlich zu langsam.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders die DirectX 10 fähigen Vertreter (8400M, HD 2400) sind nicht in der Lage ihre DirectX 10 Effekte (bei hohen Details) flüssig darzustellen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

13.3": Das ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks.

Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das winzige Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten sehr anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind fast nicht nutzbar.

2 kg: Diese Subnotebooks sind deutlich leichter als der Durchschnitt aller Notebooks, stellen aber die höhere Gewichtsklasse unter den Subnotebooks dar. 12 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

79%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Man muss bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
