Priced Rs. 10,000 lower than the iPhone 12 (and a whopping Rs. 50,000 lower than the iPhone 12 Pro), the value proposition does look good.

Das iPhone 12 Mini ist das neueste Mitglied der iPhone-Familie, zusammen mit dem iPhone 12, 12 Pro und 12 Pro Max. Wie der Name besagt, handelt es sich um ein kleineres Gerät. Obwohl es bei kleineren Smartphones immer Kompromisse gibt, ist das hier nicht der Fall – es handelt sich um das iPhone 12 in einem kompakteren Format. So hat es zum Beispiel das gleiche Design mit flachen Rändern, Kompatibilität mit 5G, und einen OLED-Bildschirm mit HDR. Wie bei der ganzen iPhone-12-Reihe ist der Bildschirm mit Apples Ceramic-Shield überzogen, der viermal besseren Schutz vor Brüchen bietet. Zudem ist das iPhone 12 Mini mit IP68-Zertifizierung vor Staub und Wasser geschützt. Mit MagSafe kann man Zubehör anschließen und das Gerät kabellos laden. Darüber hinaus hat es den gleichen A14-Bionic-Prozessor, die gleiche iOS-14-Software und sogar die gleichen Kameras wie das iPhone 12. Es ist das gleiche Smartphone, bloß in zwei Größen.

Dieses Modell hat einen kleineren 5,4-Zoll-Bildschirm (verglichen mit dem 6,1-Zoll-Bildschirm des iPhone 12). Es ist zweifellos praktisch, wenn man ein Smartphone mit einer Hand benutzen kann, doch beim Lesen von Dokumenten macht sie der kleinere Bildschirm bemerkbar. Für manche könnte auch die Tastatur zu klein sein. Was das äußere Design angeht, so hat auch diese Mini-Version einen glänzen Streifen aus Edelstahl an der Seite, ähnlich wie das iPhone 12 Pro Max. Es sieht definitiv schick aus, doch Fingerabdrücke sammeln sich schnell an. Damit es immer neu und hochwertig aussieht, muss es oft poliert werden.

Die kompakte Größe des iPhone 12 Mini beeinträchtigt auch die Kamera-Qualität nicht. Dieses Modell hat die gleiche Weitwinkel-, Ultra-Weitwinkel- und Selfie-Kamera wie der Rest der iPhone-12-Reihe. Die dreifache Kamera-Aufstellung nimmt durchgängig ausgezeichnete Bilder und Videos auf, sogar Videos mit bis zu 4K@60fps oder bis zu 4K@30fps in Dolby-Vision. Auch mit nur einer Hand kann man leicht Fotos und Videos aufnehmen. Mit den Schnelleinstellungen neben dem Auslöser kann man problemlos die Belichtungszeit, das Seitenverhältnis und sogar die Zeit beim Nachtmodus festsetzen, alles mit einer Hand. Nur weil es kleiner ist, hat das iPhone 12 Mini noch lange nicht weniger zu bieten. Es gibt noch vieles zu entdecken, besonders für iPhone-Fans.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

A14: System on a Chip (SoC) von Apple, der in der iPhone 12 und iPad Air Serie verbaut wird. Basiert auf sechs 64-Bit-fähige ARM-Kernen (2 Performance Firestorm Kerne, 4 Stromsparkerne namens Icestorm) und soll laut Apple 40% schneller als der A12 sein (im iPad Air 2019). Der Chip wird bei TSMC in 5nm gefertigt und vereint eine Apple eigene Grafikkarte und eine schnellere Neural Engine.
