Es gibt wenige Kritikpunkte, leider bleibt der erhoffte, riesige Qualitätssprung der Fotos bei wenig Licht – vorerst – aus. Vielleicht bessert Apple hier noch mit Software nach und mal schauen was mit ProRAW möglich wird.

But the joy was replaced by disappointment – and all because of the indicators of autonomy. I have a large iPhone 12 Pro Max that lasts as long as an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 Pro. Hence the conclusion follows: why get used to inconvenient sizes, if devices of a more comfortable format produce the same results?

Das neueste Mitglied der iPhone-Familie ist das iPhone 12 Pro Max, das größte iPhone bisher. Das Gehäuse hat einen glänzenden Rahmen aus Edelstahl, der sehr schick aussieht, allerdings auch ein wahrer Magnet für Fingerabdrücke ist. Man muss das Gerät ständig polieren, damit es weiterhin neu und hochwertig wirkt. Das Smartphone ist in vier Farben erhältlich, nämlich Graphit, Gold, Silber, und Pazifikblau. Das iPhone 12 Pro Max unterscheidet sich vom iPhone 12 und 12 Pro nicht nur in der Größe, sondern auch in der Kamera-Aufstellung: Obwohl das iPhone 12 Pro Max genauso über drei Kameras verfügt, wurde es mit einem größeren Sensor ausgerüstet, wodurch die Kamera wesentlich mehr herausragt als bei den anderen zwei Modellen.

Der Bildschirm des iPhone 12 Pro Max ist der größte Bildschirm, der je in ein iPhone eingebaut wurde. Es hat ein OLED-Panel, das Apple “Super-XDR-OLED-Display” nennt, was schlicht bedeutet, dass der Bildschirm klar, hell und scharf ist, und Farben sehr gut wiedergibt. Dank der dünneren Einfassung konnte der Bildschirm noch weiter bis zum Rand gestreckt werden, weshalb es eine Diagonale von 6,7 Zoll erreicht (im Gegensatz zum 6,5-Zoll-Display des iPhone 11 Pro Max). Wie alle iPhone-12-Geräte, hat auch dieses vorne ein Ceramic-Shield, das es viermal besser vor Brüchen schützt. Auf der Rückseite befinden sich drei 12-MP-Kameras, genauer gesagt eine gewöhnliche Weitwinkel-Linse, eine Ultra-Weitwinkel-Linse, und ein 2,5x-Teleobjektiv. Sowohl die Hauptkamera als auch die Ultra-Weitwinkel-Linse ist mit einem Nachtmodus kompatibel, der dunkle Szenen bis zu 30 Sekunden lang erhellen kann, sogar wenn das Umgebungslicht schwach ist. Mit dem größeren Sensor kann die Kamera mehr Licht einfangen, um hellere und klarere Fotos aufzunehmen.

Die Kameras sind zweifellos das Highlight des iPhone 12 Pro Max, doch die wichtigsten Veränderungen der gesamten iPhone-12-Reihe stellen 5G und MagSafe dar. Da der Chipsatz im Inneren von MagSafe mit dem iPhone kommunizieren kann, vertraut es dem verbundenen Gerät, dass es sich nicht falsch verhalten wird. Das heißt, dass z.B. kabellose MagSafe-Ladegeräte schneller laden können, weil das iPhone 12 weiß, dass die Energie aus einer vertrauten Quelle stammt und den Akku nicht beschädigen wird. Insgesamt bietet dieses iPhone das meiste in seiner Reihe.

Apple A14 Bionic GPU: Von Apple selbst designte Grafikkarte im Apple A14 Bionic SoC und laut Apple mit vier Kernen und um 30% schneller als die GPU im A12. An technischen Änderungen listet Apple: Verbessertes HDR und besseres Rendering / Compute Shading.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

A14: System on a Chip (SoC) von Apple, der in der iPhone 12 und iPad Air Serie verbaut wird. Basiert auf sechs 64-Bit-fähige ARM-Kernen (2 Performance Firestorm Kerne, 4 Stromsparkerne namens Icestorm) und soll laut Apple 40% schneller als der A12 sein (im iPad Air 2019). Der Chip wird bei TSMC in 5nm gefertigt und vereint eine Apple eigene Grafikkarte und eine schnellere Neural Engine.
