A nice bonus is reverse charging, which transforms Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 (2022) into a mat for recharging gadgets. And the autonomy of the tablet did not disappoint. The price is a bit high, but this fact should be taken for granted. If you want a top-end device, you need to be prepared. The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 with its ultimate functionality and performance to date is very close to the ideal, if it exists at all. This is definitely a successful tablet with a developed ecosystem. Supplemented with accessories, it can easily replace a laptop, becoming a powerful tool for work and entertainment. Recommended.

However, it’s impossible to ignore that the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 feels a bit like what you’d get if Amazon decided to make a really, really expensive Fire HD tablet. Huawei and Amazon tablets don’t get the Google Play app store, and that means access to games and apps is severely limited. You can only get around this so much by side-loading apps, itself a security risk, so bear that in mind before deciding the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is a better deal than an iPad Pro 12.9 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+.

But at the moment, the services have neither the content nor the refinement to command premium subscription prices. The company also seems to think users like to be bombarded with notifications, emails, and texts from its advertising partners. Huawei might want the ad money, but this has the adverse effect of cheapening its tablet experience and interfering with the core usability of its apps.

EN→DENow you’d most likely consider a Pro tablet like this as an alternative for a laptop, and it can do so even without a Desktop Mode available. Just be ready to consider using other office apps that aren’t Google to be more efficient. So yes, if you highly rely on Google apps, then I don’t really recommend this one unless you’re willing to adapt. It has a more reasonable price for its specs than Apple’s iPad Pro; however, it still falls down to the lack of Google Mobile Services. This would’ve been the best Android tablet yet. But we’ll never know with Huawei, the development of HarmonyOS was a big step, and who knows what further improvements they can make.

EN→DEIt should come as no surprise that my final verdict on the Huawei MatePad Pro (2021) is pretty much the same as any other Huawei device I’ve reviewed over the last couple of years. The United States’ foreign policy isn’t Huawei’s fault, of course, but the consequence is still the same. No matter how great the hardware is, the lack of Google Play means it remains an infuriatingly tough sell outside of China. Sure the price is tempting and it’s absolutely up to snuff in every other area but the MatePad Pro’s current software will leave you wanting more.

Even though Huawei contends the tablet uses a brand new OS, it still relies on Android apps to do anything useful, and like before if your workflow relies on any app that uses GMS, you should steer clear. This is a shame – the hardware on offer in the MatePad Pro 12.6 is incredibly compelling. Though if you’re willing to put in the work to find equivalents or replacements to the stuff you use on Huawei’s AppGallery and Petal Search Engine, the result is that you get to enjoy one of the best tablets available in the market today. At least, if you have the money for it.

EN→DEAs much as we enjoy Huawei's HarmonyOS software for getting work done, the MatePad Pro's 12.6-inch display and versatility of the added stylus and keyboard, there are a couple of things that'll likely stop people from buying one compared to an Apple iPad. First: it's not readily available at time of writing, so you can't actually buy it. Second: being based on Android means you don't get the same level of apps that an iPad enjoys. Add to that the fact that Huawei's AppGallery still lacks a lot of popular games, and it limits the experience somewhat. However, if what you're after is a tablet to help you get work done, and you're an Office 365 user, or don't mind going down the APK route to install apps like Paper by Dropbox or Slack, then the usability and flexibility of this Huawei tablet as a work machine might just make the compromises worth it.

EN→DEHuawei has been smart. It’s recognized Android tablets suffer from poor, phone-optimized interfaces that pale when compared to iPadOS. So while the MatePad Pro can’t compete on app support, with some inspired (by Apple and Microsoft) enhancements that transform the Android tab experience, it does something great. Use it more like a Chromebook-style browser-focused device rather than a traditional Android tablet (manageable, given its big screen), and this could be the first Huawei device running Android in over a year that isn't crippled by the app experience.

Das 32 cm große Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 Tablet ist eines der größten Android-Tablets. Auch seine Leistung ist erstklassig, denn dieses OLED-Tablet konkurriert direkt mit schwergewichtigen Produkten wie dem Apple iPad Pro 12.9 und dem Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus und seinem High-End HiSilicon Kirin 9000E SoC. Obwohl das Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 einen fast 13 Zoll großen Bildschirm hat, ist es sehr schlank. Der OLED-Bildschirm ist auf jeder Seite von einem schmalen Rand von nur 5,6 mm (etwa 0,22 Zoll) umgeben. Das sieht nicht nur einzigartig aus, sondern sorgt auch dafür, dass das Verhältnis von Bildschirm zu Gehäuse bei Huawei 90 % erreicht. Das Tablet wiegt 609 Gramm, was immer noch relativ leicht ist und gut in der Hand liegt, vor allem wegen des dünnen Gehäuses von nur 6,7 mm (ca. 0,26 Zoll).
Die Rückseite des Tablets ist schlicht und klar gestaltet. Das Huawei-Logo ist in der Mitte aufgedruckt, und die kleine Kameraeinheit in der oberen rechten Ecke der Rückseite wirkt sehr klein. Das Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 bietet 256 GB Speicherplatz, von denen im Auslieferungszustand etwa 234 GB frei sind. Der Speicherplatz kann durch eine NM-Karte erweitert werden, die 256 GB fassen kann. Die zweite physische Schnittstelle dieses Tablets ist der USB-C-Anschluss (USB-C 3.2 Gen.1). Er kann über den beiliegenden 3,5-mm-Klinkenadapter als Audioschnittstelle genutzt und über seine OTG-Unterstützung auch mit Peripheriegeräten verbunden werden. Auf dem Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 läuft HarmonyOS, das auf Android 10 basiert. HarmonyOS verfügt über keinerlei Google-Dienste und kann nur über einen Browser genutzt werden. Da es kein Google Play mehr gibt, organisiert Huawei das Angebot an Anwendungen auf zwei andere Arten. Zum einen können Nutzer über die AppGallery verschiedene gängige Anwendungen herunterladen, die aber eindeutig auf den chinesischen Markt ausgerichtet sind.
Die zweite Komponente des Anwendungsangebots ist Petal Search, eine integrierte Anwendungssuchmaschine. Sie durchsucht die offizielle Website und Anwendungsbibliotheken wie ApkVision, Aptoide, APKMonk und APKpure, so dass die Wahrscheinlichkeit groß ist, die gewünschte Anwendung zu finden. Aus der Sicherheitsperspektive ist dies jedoch nicht die beste Wahl, da die meisten Anwendungen aus Drittquellen stammen müssen. Die Triple-Kamera des Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 umfasst eine 13-Megapixel-Kamera mit f/1.8-Blende und Autofokus sowie eine 8-Megapixel-Weitwinkelkamera mit fester Brennweite und einem 120°-Sichtfeld. Die dritte Komponente ist eine 3D-Kamera mit Tiefenerkennungsfunktion. Auf der Vorderseite befindet sich eine 8-Megapixel-Selfie-Kamera, die ordentliche Fotos und Videos mit bis zu 1920 x 1080 Pixeln bei 30 Bildern pro Sekunde aufnehmen kann. Das OLED-Display des Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 hat eine Bildwiederholrate von 60 Hz und bietet eine hohe Bildschärfe mit einer Auflösung von 2560 x 1600 Pixeln.
Huawei hat sein Tablet mit einem 40-Watt-Netzteil, einem USB-Kabel (Typ A auf Typ C), einem SIM-Karten-Tool, einem 3,5-mm-Klinkenadapter für den USB-C-Anschluss sowie einer Schnellstartanleitung und einem Heft mit Garantieinformationen ausgestattet. Das Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 unterstützt keine mobile Kommunikation und kein NFC. Seine einzigen Kommunikationskanäle sind Bluetooth 5.2 und Wi-Fi 6, einschließlich 4x4 MIMO. Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass das Huawei MatePad 12.9 ein Tablet mit leistungsstarker Hardware und schönem Design ist. Allerdings verfügt es über keine Google Mobile Services, was für viele Nutzer eine Enttäuschung sein könnte.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Dieser Bereich des Displayformats bildet weitgehend die Obergrenze für Tablets und die Untergrenze für Subnotebooks.
Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das winzige Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen, die man von einem Standard-Laptop gewohnt ist, sind fast nicht nutzbar.
