Der AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS ist ein Mobilprozessor für große Notebooks (z.B. Gaming-Laptops) basierend auf die Renoir Generation. Der SoC beinhaltet acht Zen 2 Kerne (Octa-Core CPU) welche mit bis zu 4,2 GHz getaktet werden (Turbo) und SMT / Hyperthreading (16 Threads) unterstützen. Der Chip wird im modernen 7nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und soll laut AMD eine 2x verbesserte Performance pro Watt bieten als die Ryzen 3000 APUs (z.B. den Ryzen 7 3750H Vorgänger). 

Laut AMD ist der Ryzen 7 4800H (und damit der HS in etwa) um 5% schneller als ein Intel Core i7-9750H im Einzelkernbenchmark des Cinebench R20 und 46% schneller im Multikernbenchmark. Damit würde sich die CPU zwischen dem Intel Core i9-9880H und 9980HK an der Spitze von mobilen Prozessoren einordnen. Damit eignet sie sich auch für anspruchsvolle Anforderungen sehr gut. Laut Asus (die den Chip exklusiv für die ersten Monate einsetzen), ist die Performance vergleichbar mit dem Ryzen 7 4800H.

Der SoC integriert neben den acht Prozessorkernen noch eine Radeon RX Vega 7 Grafikkarte mit 7 CUs und bis zu 1600 MHz Takt, einen Dual-Channel DDR4-3200 / LPDDR4-4266 Speicherkontroller und 8 MB Level 3 Cache. Im Vergleich zum Ryzen 7 4800H, bietet der 4800HS einen um 10 Watt geringeren TDP (35 versus 45 W) bei sonst gleichen Spezifikationen. Daher ist der Chip für große und schwere Notebooks vorgesehen und benötigt, trotz des effizienten 7nm Herstellungsprozesses, eine gute Kühlung um die Leistung auch dauerhaft zu erbringen.

Der AMD Ryzen 7 4980U ist ein Mobilprozessor für kleine und leichte Notebooks basierend auf die Renoir Generation. Der SoC beinhaltet acht Zen 2 Kerne (Octa-Core CPU) welche mit bis zu 4,4 GHz getaktet werden (Turbo) und SMT / Hyperthreading (16 Threads) unterstützen. Der Chip wird im modernen 7nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und soll laut AMD eine 2x verbesserte Performance pro Watt bieten als die Ryzen 3000 APUs (z.B. den Ryzen 7 3700U Vorgänger). Im Vergleich zum ähnlich benannten Ryzen 7 4800H, bietet der 4980U einen deutlich geringeren Basistakt und der TDP ist um 30 Watt geringer.

Durch die hohen Taktraten, sollte die CPU etwas schneller als der Ryzen 7 5700U (ebenfalls Zen2, 1,8 - 4,3 GHz) aber wahrscheinlich langsamer als der Zen 3 basierten Ryzen 7 5800U (2,9 - 4,4 GHz). Dank der 8 Rechenkerne ist die Multikernleistung hervorragend. Der hohe Turbo von 4,4 GHz sollte aber auch zu einer sehr guten Einzelkernleistung verhelfen. Dadurch sollte der R7 4980U, bei ausreichender Kühlung, zu einem der schnellsten 15-Watt-Prozessoren gehören.

Der SoC integriert neben den acht Prozessorkernen noch eine Radeon RX Vega 8 Grafikkarte mit 8 CUs und bis zu 1750 MHz Takt, einen Dual-Channel DDR4-3200 / LPDDR4-4266 Speicherkontroller und 8 MB Level 3 Cache. Der TDP ist laut Microsoft 15 Watt (Default) und sollte sich daher gut für das Surface Laptop 4 eignen.
