Das Q70 von Samsung gefällt auf den ersten Blick mit seinem eleganten Äußeren und kompakten Abmessungen. Und trotz des geringen Gewichtes von nur zwei Kilogramm hat das Gerät ein überraschend großes Display und gute Systemleistungen zu bieten. Plus: Schickes, kompaktes Gehäuse; Nur 2 Kilogramm schwer; Augenfreundliches 13,3-Zoll-Display; DVD-Brenner eingebaut; Gute Systemleistungen.

Das Samsung Q70-Aura T7300 Devon ist mit dem 13,3“ WXGA Bildschirm, Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 mit 2,00 GHz, 2 GB Arbeitsspeicher, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G Grafikchip und 200 GB Hitachi Festplatte ein perfektes Office-Subnotebook für Zuhause oder im Büro. Mit ca. 1399 EUR ist das Subnotebook zwar ein wenig teurer als die 15,4“ Mainstream-Notebooks, die man häufig in Elektronikfachgeschäften findet, aber man hat auch weniger Gewicht und eine längere Akkulaufzeit.

They don't make budget notebooks like they used to. Just a year or two ago, you'd have to put up with a poorly designed lump of plastic if you couldn't spend over a grand. Now, you can pick up a well-engineered, stylish machine such as this Samsung Q70. A combination of Intel's 2GHz T7300 Core 2 processor and 2GB of RAM means there's enough grunt here to keep the Q70 looking speedy for several years. It raced through our benchmarks, scoring 1.01 overall - 1% faster than our reference 3.2GHz Pentium D desktop PC. The Q70's even capable of some after-hours gaming: Nvidia's GeForce 8400M G graphics will struggle with modern games, scoring an average of 19fps in Call of Duty 2 at our low settings, but it can cope with older, less demanding titles. There's a large hard disk on offer, too. It's nominally 160GB and, even after Windows Vista Home Premium has had its wicked way, there's still 140GB of space - Samsung splits this across two 70GB partitions, so you could use one for programs and one for data.

The 13.3” Samsung Q70 is a new model to fill a gap in the Samsung product range. It is too large to be called an ultra-portable and, while it is reasonably light, it is not very thin. It is slightly larger than the popular Q35 and its successor, the Q45. The Q70 was not shown by Samsung at CeBIT. Was it still under development or were they deliberately keeping it secret to give the market a surprise? As well as increasing the display size, the notebook has acquired extra weight and thickness and at, 2.03kg (4.45lb) and a maximum 45mm (1.75”), it cannot be classed as either thin-and-light or ultraportable. The Samsung Q70 is a well built notebook but it is a little bulky. It is responsive with good processing power and a large, but quiet fan. A benefit of the thick chassis is that the external surfaces stay acceptably cool. If lightly loaded, it can only run for about 3 hours off its 6 cell battery. So where does the Q70 fit in the market?

The Samsung Q70 is an excellent laptop that will be equally well suited as a business or an entertainment laptop. It’ll blend beautifully into any corporate environment thanks to its glossy finish and nimble 2kg frame, while the fast speed and excellent screen will please gamers and multimedia users. We found the Samsung Q70 to be a better performer than the Samsung Q35 (read our Samsung Q35 review here), and the it showed up well in our WorldBench speed benchmark tests, hitting an excellent score of 78. The Samsung Q70's framerate score of 21fps (frames per second) in our games tests didn’t impress quite as much, although this is still a decent figure. The glossy screen is smaller than most, but the Samsung Q70 still displays images of a crisp quality. We found the viewing angles to be good and the widescreen capabilities worked well during video playback. Although the Samsung Q70's keyboard is small, it's comfortable to use. Its only downfall is the small spacebar. This, though, is understandable due to the Samsung Q70's compact size.

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G: Stark abgespeckte 8400M GS Grafikkarte mit geringem Speicherbus und nur der Hälfte an Stream Prozessoren. Die Spieleleistung wird dadurch sehr eingeschränkt. Nur MPEG-2 Videobeschleunigung.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders die DirectX 10 fähigen Vertreter (8400M, HD 2400) sind nicht in der Lage ihre DirectX 10 Effekte (bei hohen Details) flüssig darzustellen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.
Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

13.3": Das ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks.
Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das winzige Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten sehr anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind fast nicht nutzbar.

2 kg: Diese Subnotebooks sind deutlich leichter als der Durchschnitt aller Notebooks, stellen aber die höhere Gewichtsklasse unter den Subnotebooks dar. 12 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.
Samsung: Samsung ist ein international tätiger Notebook-Hersteller mittlerer Grösse hinsichtlich der Marktanteile und vielen Testberichten. Samsung-Modelle erhielten bisher ausgezeichnete Gesamt-Bewertungen deutsch- und englisch-sprachiger Magazine, auch die Preis-Leistungs-Beurteilungen können sich sehen lassen.
81.5%: Diese Bewertung muss man eigentlich als durchschnittlich ansehen, denn es gibt etwa ebenso viele Notebooks mit besseren Beurteilungen wie Schlechteren.
