Der AMD A4-5000 ist ein mobiler Quad-Core-SoC für Einstiegsgeräte und Subnotebooks, der Mai 2013 vorgestellt wurde. Neben 4 Prozessorkernen mit einer Taktrate von 1,5 GHz (kein Turbo) integriert der 28-Nanometer-Chip auch eine Radeon HD 8330 GPU, einen Single-Channel DDR3L-1600-Speichercontroller sowie die Southbridge mit diversen I/O-Ports.

Architektur

Sowohl Kabini (für Notebooks) als auch Temash (Tablets und kompakte Subnotebooks) basieren auf AMDs neuer Jaguar-Architektur, die die Nachfolge der bisherigen Bobcat-Modelle (z.B. E-350) antritt. Laut AMD konnte die Pro-MHz-Leistung um etwa 15 Prozent gesteigert werden, zudem werden nun verschiedene moderne Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie SSE bis Version 4.2, AVX und AES unterstützt. Der feinere 28-Nanometer-Prozess von TSMC erlaubt dabei niedrigere Kernspannungen beziehungsweise höhere Taktraten, zudem werden im Gegensatz zu Bobcat auch Quad-Core-Modelle angeboten.

Performance

Die niedrige Taktrate von nur 1,5 GHz sorgt für eine mäßige Leistung in schlecht parallelisierten Anwendungen, zudem fehlt ein zusätzlicher Turbo-Modus. Dadurch ist der A4-5000 in derartigen Fällen kaum schneller als der E2-1800 der Vorgängergeneration. Werden hingegen alle 4 Kerne ausgelastet, entspricht die Performance in etwa der Sandy-Bridge-basierten ULV-CPU Core i3-2377M. Für die meisten Alltagsaufgaben besitzt der A4-5000 damit ausreichende Leistungsreserven, gerät allerdings bei anspruchsvollerer Software an seine Grenzen.

Grafik

Der SoC integriert eine Radeon HD 8330 GPU, die über 128 Shadereinheiten auf Basis der GCN-Architektur verfügt und mit 500 MHz taktet (kein Turbo). Die Grafikleistung ist in etwa mit Intels HD Graphics 4000 oder einer dedizierten Radeon HD 7470M vergleichbar. Nur wenige aktuelle Spiele (Stand 2013) sind damit in niedrigen Einstellungen flüssig spielbar; ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Titel kann die HD 8330 aber bewältigen, sofern die Prozessorleistung nicht limitiert.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme des gesamten SoCs liegt bei 15 Watt und damit etwas unter der Vorgängergeneration. Dadurch ist der A4-5000 auch für besonders mobile und dünne (Sub-)notebooks geeignet.
