AMD A6-5200

Der AMD A6-5200 ist ein mobiler Quad-Core-SoC für Einstiegsnotebooks, der im Mai 2013 vorgestellt wurde. Neben 4 Prozessorkernen mit einer Taktrate von 2,0 GHz (kein Turbo) integriert der 28-Nanometer-Chip auch eine Radeon HD 8400 GPU, einen DDR3L-1600-Speichercontroller sowie die Southbridge mit diversen I/O-Ports.

Architektur

Sowohl Kabini (für Notebooks) als auch Temash (Tablets und kompakte Subnotebooks) basieren auf AMDs neuer Jaguar-Architektur, die die Nachfolge der bisherigen Bobcat-Modelle (z.B. E-350) antritt. Laut AMD konnte die Pro-MHz-Leistung um etwa 15 Prozent gesteigert werden, zudem werden nun verschiedene moderne Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie SSE bis Version 4.2, AVX und AES unterstützt. Der feinere 28-Nanometer-Prozess von TSMC erlaubt dabei niedrigere Kernspannungen beziehungsweise höhere Taktraten, zudem werden im Gegensatz zu Bobcat auch Quad-Core-Modelle angeboten.

Performance

Je nach Anwendung bewegt sich die Performance des A6-5200 in etwa zwischen einem Pentium 977 und einem Core i3-3227U. Die 4 CPU-Kerne sorgen zwar für eine gute Multi-Thread-Performance, doch ist die Leistung bei Auslastung weniger Threads relativ niedrig. Für Alltagsaufgaben aus dem Office- oder Multimedia-Bereich besitzt der Prozessor insgesamt aber ausreichende Reserven.

Grafik

Der SoC integriert eine Radeon HD 8400 GPU, die über 128 Shadereinheiten auf Basis der GCN-Architektur verfügt und mit 600 MHz taktet (kein Turbo). Die Grafikleistung liegt etwa auf dem Niveau der schnelleren HD-4000-Varianten oder einer dedizierten Radeon HD 6490M. In einigen aktuellen Spielen (Stand 2013) kann allerdings der Prozessor die Performance limitieren; ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Titel bewältigt die APU dagegen meist.

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme des gesamten SoCs liegt bei 25 Watt und damit etwas unter normalen Notebook-Prozessoren, aber über ULV-Modellen. Dadurch ist der A4-5000 für dünne Notebooks ab etwa 14 Zoll geeignet.
