Qualcomm SQ1

Der Microsoft SQ1 ist ein ARM basierter SoC für das Microsoft Surface Pro X. Er basiert auf die Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform mit höher getakteten CPU und GPU Kernen. Das heisst die CPU integriert vier ARM Cortex-A76 basierende Kerne (mit bis zu 3 GHz statt 2,84 GHz für alle vier) und vier ARM Cortex-A55 basierende Stromsparkerne (noch unbekannt ob auch mit bis zu 1,8 GHz wie beim 8cx). Die integrierte Adreno 685 ist wahrscheinlich ebenfalls höher getaktet. Microsoft gibt 2 versus 1,8 TFlops theoretische Leistung für die GPU an.

Der SoC integriert ausserdem ein X24 LTE Modem (2 Gbps Cat.20 Download), Satellite Systems (Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS, SBAS), Video De- und Encoder (bis zu 4K HDR 120fps H.265), Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11ad/ac/a/b/g/n und einen 2133 MHz LPDDR4x Speicherkontroller (8 Channels).

Laut Qualcomm sollen die Prozessorkerne die Leistung eines Core i5 der 8. Generation von Intel erreichen (Quad-Core). Dies trifft jedoch nur für Applikationen und Spiele zu, die nativ ARM64 unterstützen (für ARM kompiliert wurden). Dies ist Mitte 2019 leider nur bei wenigen Applikationen der Fall. 64-Bit-Apps die für AMD/Intel kompiliert wurden laufen gar nicht, 32-Bit-Apps laufen in einer langsamen Emulation.

Der Chip wird im modernen 7nm Verfahren bei TSMC gefertigt und soll einen TDP von 7 Watt aufweisen. Dadurch eignet sich der 8cx für dünne und schlanke Notebooks und passive Kühlung (ohne Lüfter).
