The XPS 13 is remarkable machine. It is perfect for someone who wants a crisp sharp display, especially if you like to edit photos on the go like me. It is very solid in terms of build quality and should last long. In terms of performance, I had no complaints. This isn’t a gaming machine, but it can handle less resource hogging games. So yes, I am not left behind when I have impromptu CS 1.6 sessions with my friends. I expected a bit more out of the battery, but with that resolution I think a 6.5-7 hour battery life is acceptable.

The XPS 13 certainly isn’t the cheapest machine on the market but considering everything it has to offer, the pricing is certainly fair. Innovation isn’t cheap and the XPS 13 is certainly innovative, combining very impressive specs into an impossibly thin body and once you pick it up, you’re likely to want to buy one straight away.

That aside, I absolutely love this thing. I could wish for a better GPU – yes, I really do want a slim, gorgeous ultraportable that also plays Grand Theft Auto V – but it will be a few years until ultraportables routinely come with decent gaming-class graphics. As it stands, this is a powerful, light, lovely ultraportable that comes a only hair’s breadth from achieving perfection.

An upgrade to Intel’s Skylake CPUs headlines the list of changes made to the XPS 13 for the late 2015 model. The Core i7-6500U included with my review unit was around 5-10 percent faster on the CPU side than an equivalent last-gen Broadwell part, with performance gains of around 20% on the GPU side. These improvements aren’t huge, but fall in line with Intel’s typical generational jumps.

The XPS 13 is a welcome return to tip-top form for Dell. In fact, there’s only one thing that really bugs me about the XPS 13, and that’s Dell’s stubborn insistence on forcing dynamic contrast on at all times. It's a stupid decision, in my opinion.

The old XPS 13 was already a great lightweight laptop. The new one is even better. With Intel’s latest processors you get better battery life and more performance, and while there’s a big price premium to be paid for the Infinity Display and Core i7 processor, it’s one worth paying if you have the wonga. We’ve seen other ultrabooks that are shinier and flashier, but none that packs so much into so little space while remaining practical. If you like to get around with your laptop, this one’s hard to beat.

Dell’s XPS 13 is an excellent piece of engineering that combines the latest Intel hardware with a robust, attractive and portable chassis. There are minor flaws. The speakers could be louder, the glossy display can be distracting in bright rooms, and the fan is loud at load. But those nitpicks are outweighed by tons of advantages. Display, keyboard, touchpad, performance, weight, battery life, size; in all these areas and more the XPS 13 excels.

The first 2015 Dell XPS 13 was one of the best portable ultrabooks around. Offering a compact design, solid performance and comfortable typing experience, it was an exceptional mobile productivity aid. As a result, it’s no surprise that the refreshed sixth-generation Intel-powered model is also excellent and easily outclasses competing ultrabooks, such as the Lenovo Yoga 900. If you want a portable laptop then you should definitely consider the XPS 13. However, the basic £850 version's display isn’t the best I’ve seen. Those with the cash would do better to invest in the more expensive QHD+ touchscreen model. If you’re not dead set on getting a proper laptop, there are also a number of convertibles at the same price point, like the Surface Pro 4, that are also worth a look.

Modell: Das Dell XPS 13 2016 ist ein schön gestalteter und gut ausgeführter Laptop. Wie bei allen XPS-Geräte sind eine erstklassige Verarbeitung und Hardware mit solider Leistung obligatorisch. Das Design ist mit einem robusten Uni-Body-Gehäuse aus Aluminium stilvoll. Der silberne Bildschirmdeckel bildet einen schönen Kontrast zu dem gemusterten, dunkelgrauen Inneren. Der 13,3 Zoll große QHD+ InfinityEdge Touchscreen wird durch Corning Gorilla Glass geschützt. Farbsättigung und Bildschärfe machen das Dell XPS 13 2016 zu einem ausgezeichneten Entertainment-System.

An Bord befinden sich ein Intel Core i7-6500U Prozessor der sechsten Generation, 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM, eine Intel HD Graphics 520 GPU und eine 256 GB SSD als interner Speicher. Das Windows 10 Pro 64-bit System verfügt über eine Tastatur mit Hintergrundlicht und ein Präzisions-Touchpad. Zu den weiteren Features gehören Bluetooth 4.1, eine HD 720p Breitbild-Webcam, zwei USB-3.0-Ports, ein USB-3.1-Port, ein Kartenleser, ein Thunderbolt-3-Port, ein HDMI-Ausgang und ein VGA-Ausgang. Dank einer durch Waves MaxxAudio professionell abgestimmten Stereo-Konfiguration ist die Klangqualität beeindruckend. Ein nicht entfernbarer 56-Wh-Akku sorgt für Akkulaufzeit.

Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2), welche in einigen Skylake-CPUs (ULV-Modelle, 15 Watt TDP) verbaut wird.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
