Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 15 Ryzen 5 3580U

Einer der größten Erfolge von Microsoft ist zweifellos die Surface-Serie. Sie trägt Microsoft, nach mehreren Versuchen im Handy-Bereich, im Hardware-Bereich problemlos. Die Surface-Geräten sind erfolgreich, weil Microsoft die Bedürfnisse der Benutzer zu verstehen begann und entsprechend handelte. Die leichten Surface-Geräte sorgen für eine flüssige Windows-Erfahrungen und sind in gewisser Weise für Windows optimiert. Unser aktuelles Gerät verwendet eine AMD Ryzen 5 3580U. Die Benennung mag etwas anders klingen, da es sich nicht um einen normalen Ryzen-Chip handelt. Stattdessen wurde dieser Chip speziell für Surface Laptop 3 Modelle hergestellt. Was ist der Unterschied? Das versteckt sich in der GPU. Während normale Ryzen-Chips mit einer Vega 8-GPU ausgestattet sind, bietet dieses Modell eine Vega 9. Natürlich gibt es auch Varianten mit Intels neuesten Prozessoren der 10. Generation, doch die AMD-Partnerschaft ist eine nette Abwechslung. Der Unterschied zwischen Intel- und AMD-Modellen liegt in der Basis-Geschwindigkeit. Da es sich bei den AMD-Chips jedoch um Sonderanfertigungen handelt, werden Benchmarks diesbezüglich aufschlussreicher sein. Ein 13,5-Zoll-Modell ist auch erhältlich. Ist der Surface Laptop eine gute Investition? Ja und nein. Ja, denn das Microsoft-Gerät wird sicherlich eine gute Windows-Erfahrung bieten. Nein, denn es gibt Unmengen anderer Laptops mit installiertem Windows, die auch gute Erfahrungen bieten. Vor allem angesichts des Preises der Top-Versionen, der bei über 2.000 USD liegt, kann man sich meines Erachtens leicht ein Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 14 zulegen, das mit seinem Dual-Screen ebenfalls innovativ ist und über eine sehr ähnliche Spezifikationen verfügt. Einige Versionen haben auch eine bessere GPU als das Surface 3. Das Besondere am Surface Laptop 3 ist seine erstklassige Anmutung. Es ist vollständig aus Aluminium gefertigt. Im Grunde ist es eine Art, “Ich bin anders“ zu sagen. Was Apple mit der MacBook-Reihe macht, versucht Microsoft mit der Surface-Laptop-Reihe. Erfolgreich? Ja und nein. Ja, weil es gute Laptops sind. Nein, denn im Gegensatz zu Apple-Produkten verlieren Windows-Geräte zu schnell an Wert. Wenn ich 2.000 USD in einen Laptop investieren würde, müsste ich meine Prioritäten festlegen. Ist es Mobilität? Ist es Leistung? Ist es ein hochwertige Anmutung? Ich sage das, denn wenn es reine Leistung ist, gibt es bessere Optionen mit besseren CPUs. Der Surface Laptop 3 ist mit Low-Voltage-CPUs ausgestattet, was die Leistung gewissermaßen beschränkt. Dagegen gibt es Modelle von MSI, Asus und Dell mit 45-Watt-CPUs. Was die Mobilität betrifft, gibt es sogar Modelle mit einem Gewicht von ca. 1,5 kg, die eine bessere Leistung als das Surface 3 bieten. Möglicherweise sind diese jedoch etwas teurer. Was würde ich wählen? Nun, ich bin unentschlossen. Mein Herz schlägt für die Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 14 Serie. Nicht weil es im Grunde die gleiche Konfiguration hat wie Surface Laptop 3 Modelle, sondern weil sie sich durch seinen zweiten Bildschirm unterscheidet. Ansonsten hängt alles von ihrem Geschmack ab. Der metallene Surface Laptop 3 ist noch eleganter als seine Vorgänger und hat auch bei der Implementierung seiner AMD Ryzen alles richtig gemacht. Leider wirkt so gut wie alles andere veraltet.
Update 2.11.2019: Nach einer kompletten Neuinstallation und Update unseres Testgerätes klappt nun auch Type-C-Charging und der Arbeitspeicher läuft im Dual-Channel-Modus.

Considering that this is the first flagship portable to come with this AMD and Microsoft collaboration, it was supposed to show what a non-Intel powered laptop can do. Unfortunately, this notebook is not much of a change. Its performance won’t impress anyone though it does come with refinements in power efficiency. In fact, it doesn’t stand out much from the pack other than its stellar battery life, the best this line has seen. Owners of older Microsoft Surface Laptops might wonder whether to make the upgrade to this model. Well, that depends on what you need from your upgrade. It makes sense to get the 3 if you’re happy with amazing battery life and a larger screen. But, if you need better performance, there are other places to look, most notably its successor, the Surface Laptop 4. If you are interested in the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, you should be able to find some good deals on it.

Somewhat surprisingly, Microsoft didn’t load up the Surface Laptop 3 with too much extraneous crapware, although worthless apps like Farm Heroes Saga make an appearance. Honestly, we wish Microsoft did more with the Surface app that it bundled with Surface devices. While it provides a nice summary of the system specs and provides basic configuration options for the Surface Pen (sold separately), it would be welcome to see something a bit more comprehensive.

I think the Surface Laptop 3’s sleek aesthetic continues to be worth indulging, and the performance, though not earth-shattering, helps set the Laptop’s bar higher. Those who are more inclined towards brutalist efficiency should also consider looking at recent introductions like the Acer Swift 3—there’s a lot of functionality there for under $1,000, even if you won’t like the display and keyboard as much. Lenovo’s ThinkBook is also worth considering.

Overall, the Surface Laptop 3 15 is a great laptop. It keeps all of the design cues of the smaller generation and just makes it a bit bigger, retaining the same thin & light design and keeping it easy to travel with. Microsoft has forged a solid partnership with AMD, and the Ryzen APU that's at the heart of this laptop brings with it great GPU performance and good CPU performance, even though it is at the cost of overall battery life. Plus, if you have been eyeing up the previous generation Surface Laptop 2 and were held up due to the USB situation – or uncertainty about the Alcantara keyboard deck – the new generation does offer fixes there, which makes the Surface Laptop 3 a much more palatable device.

Finally, as this is a Surface device, numerous weird bugs have come and gone throughout my testing period. I’ve already mentioned the display auto brightness bug, but I’ve also seen aggressive battery drain, fans ramping to 100 percent while charging, and the trackpad randomly stop scrolling in apps. Most of these bugs go away after fully shutting down the laptop and restarting it, but they are all frustrating things to experience in the first week of using a brand-new laptop. Microsoft typically does update its Surface devices with bug fixes and patches on a regular basis, so hopefully things will have settled down a few months from now, but right now, the Laptop 3’s experience can be hit-or-miss.

Overall, this is an expected upgrade but one Surface Laptop fans will appreciate. One of the best Windows 10 alternatives to the MacBook Air and Pro 13, though the likes of the Dell XPS 13 also do a good job at filling that spot. The Surface Laptop 3 15 is a proper MacBook Pro rival and a top addition to the Surface family; a few more ports and an SD card reader would have been ideal though, mind you, not in keeping with the clean aesthetic Microsft is going for.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 for Business that we tested today runs $1,599 shipped as it has the double the RAM and SSD size over the base model and may be worth the extra cash as 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD seems a must on premium devices as we enter 2020.

Ich weiß nicht, ob sich einige von Ihnen an die Tage erinnern, als das Macbook Air veröffentlicht wurde. Das war etwa im Jahr 2008. Nur zwei Jahre später entstanden die Chromebooks. Dann, nach weiteren zwei Jahren, gab es Surface-Laptops. Am Anfang wurden all diese glänzenden Geräte hoch gelobt. Es entstand ein neuen Bereich, um den man kämpfen konnte und jeder wollte daran Anteil haben. Schließlich fiel den Menschen auf, dass sie einen hohen Preis für nicht so gute Leistung zahlen und es war für lange Zeit Schweigen. Die Macbook Airs und Microsoft Surface-Laptops passten gut für Unternehmen. Chromebooks, eine andere Geschichte. Jetzt gibt es die Neuauflage der Surface Laptops. Diesmal stehen zwei verschiedene Varianten mit unterschiedlichen CPUs, eine mit Intel und die andere mit AMD, zur Auswahl. In allen Pressemitteilungen sprach Microsoft viel über ihre AMD-Modelle. Ich weiß nicht, was der wahre Grund dafür ist. Wie auch immer. Ich befasse mich hier mit den Intel-Modellen. Um nur 100 US-Dollar mehr erhalten Sie eine Intel Icelake CPU, Wifi 6 und Windows Pro OS. Dagegen verfügen die AMD-Modelle über Wifi 5 und Windows Home. Ach ja, AMD-Modelle verwenden DDR4, während Intel-Modelle LPDDR4 nutzen. Insgesamt wirkt sich dies nicht so stark auf die Gesamtleistung aus. Generell können wir jedoch sagen, dass Intel-Modelle etwa 1 Stunde länger durchhalten, was für mich wünschenswert ist. In den meisten Online-Rezensionen wird erwähnt, dass die neuen Modelle nicht bahnbrechend sind. Ja, das Gerät ist schlank und leicht. Ja, seine Akkulaufzeit ist okay. Aber davon abgesehen gibt es nicht viel zu erzählen. Bei einem bin ich mir jedoch sicher: Mit einem Preis ab fast 1.400 US-Dollar ist es teuer. Aber Microsoft hat eine Zielgruppe: Unternehmen. Überlegen Sie: Wer kann einem schlanken, leichten Gerät für den Büroeinsatz widerstehen? Mein Gesamteindruck: Es ist ein schönes Gerät. Bietet es viel? Ich bin nicht sicher. Gibt es Konkurrenz? Sicherlich. Die Lenovo Yoga-Serie oder die Asus Zenbook 13/14-Serien sind großartige Konkurrenten. Macs sind auch nicht zu vergessen. Die Frage sind: "Wofür kaufen sie und wie viel Budget haben Sie?". Mir ist das Gewicht beispielsweise sehr wichtig. Das Surface 3 bringt ungefähr 1,5 kg auf die Waage. Die Asus Zenbook-Serie wiegt ab 900 Gramm. Preisgestaltung und Hardware? Auch sehr ähnlich. Damit meine persönlichen Vorlieben erfüllt werden, würde ich ich auch andere Optionen in Betracht ziehen. Wie wir alle wissen, ist der Hardwaremarkt heutzutage immer weniger innovativ und es geht immer mehr um Aussehen und Ergonomie. Bedenkt man, dass Leistung sowie Preis ziemlich nahe beieinander liegen, hängt alles von den persönlichen Vorlieben und kleinen Details bei Leistung und Ausstattung ab. It's very light, slim and good looking, with performance across the board that’s a match for the best in the business. It's more practical than previous models, with non-Alcantara options that won’t get grubby, and a good spread of specifications means you can choose a model that suits your requirements and not pay more than you need to. As with most products, there is the odd area of weakness. It's high time Microsoft moved to wide-gamut displays on its hardware and, ideally, I'd have liked to see a Thunderbolt 3-equipped USB Type-C port, rather than plain old USB 3. It's also a touch disappointing that Microsoft has provided only one Type-C port. But these are relatively small complaints. If you want a laptop for work and, maybe, a little play, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is a brilliant option with very few significant shortcomings.

No two ways about it, the Surface Laptop 3 (13.5in) is an exceptionally good laptop. It's very light, slim and good looking, with performance across the board that’s a match for the best in the business. It's more practical than previous models, with non-Alcantara options that won’t get grubby, and a good spread of specifications means you can choose a model that suits your requirements and not pay more than you need to. As with most products, there is the odd area of weakness. It's high time Microsoft moved to wide-gamut displays on its hardware and, ideally, I'd have liked to see a Thunderbolt 3-equipped USB Type-C port, rather than plain old USB 3. It's also a touch disappointing that Microsoft has provided only one Type-C port. But these are relatively small complaints. If you want a laptop for work and, maybe, a little play, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is a brilliant option with very few significant shortcomings.

By default, the display is pretty color accurate, however, when you apply our Gaming and Web design profile, the Average dE drops to just 0.8, which makes it one of the most color-accurate displays we’ve had in our office.

Das Unternehmen ist bekannt für seine Softwareprodukte wie das Betriebssystem Windows, die Office-Suite und den Internet Explorer. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

AMD Vega 9: Integrierte Grafikkarte in the Ryzen APUs basierend auf der Vega Architektur mit 9 CUs (= 576 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 1300 MHz.

Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 (Ice Lake 64 EU): Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Ice-Lake G7 SoCs) der Gen. 11 Architektur mit 64 EUs (Shader-Cluster). Taktet mit 300 MHz Basistakt und 1050 bzw. 1100 MHz Boost (erste Modelle). Der Ice-Lake-Chip wird im modernen 10nm Verfahren bei Intel gefertigt und soll mit 7nm bei TSMC mithalten können.

Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, hohe Auflösungen oftmals erlaubt und damit Detailreichtum am Bildschirm bietet und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können - also schlicht der Standard-Kompromiss.
