Wer hier öfter kommentiert, kennt sicher mich und meine doch starke Meinung zu vielen Themen. Aber ich versuche auch gelegentlich, über meinen Schatten zu springen – auch wenn mich das Motorola Edge 70 auf dem Papier in den Wahnsinn treibt, sei es als Kopie eines Galaxy Edge oder vielmehr als Apples Interpretation des dünnen iPhones. Aber ich bin durchaus in der Lage, nach zwei Wochen mit dem Handy als „Daily Driver“ meine Meinung zu überdenken. Das dünne Design und das Gewicht liegen toll in der Hand, und auch mit Hülle trägt das Gerät nicht so dick auf. Ich bin definitiv offener für dünne Smartphones geworden. Aber nur weil Motorola die UVP astronomisch hochschraubt, um dann scheinheilig große Rabatte zu geben, macht das die Sache nicht besser.

Beim Motorola Edge 70 bin ich hin- und hergerissen. Ich finde das Design klasse – das Handy ist mit seinen Pantone-Farben und der strukturierten Rückseite richtig schick und sehr leicht. Gleichzeitig ist es robust, hat ein schönes OLED-Display und eine gute Kamera. Allerdings kommt es wie seine Konkurrenten von Apple und Samsung mit Kompromissen: Die Akkulaufzeit ist mittelmäßig und das Handy bietet im Gegensatz zu beiden Konkurrenten relativ wenig Leistung, zumindest für anspruchsvollere Aufgaben. Das mag dem günstigeren Preis geschuldet sein. Daher dürfte das Edge 70 vor dem gleichen Problem stehen: Warum sollte ich es kaufen, wenn ich für den Preis besser ausgestattete Smartphones bekomme, die nur etwas dicker und schwerer sind?

Das Edge 70 kombiniert ein schlankes und leichtes Gehäuse mit starker Akkulaufzeit und liegt damit über dem iPhone Air und dem Galaxy S25 FE. Das Design gehört zu den besten auf dem Markt, Ästhetik und Verarbeitung überzeugen auf ganzer Linie. Die Kameras liefern ordentliche Ergebnisse bei Haupt- und Selfie-Linse, allerdings fehlt ein Teleobjektiv. Die größte Enttäuschung ist die Software. Motorola hat seine vormals schlanke Android-Oberfläche mit jeder Menge Bloatware und Werbung überfrachtet. Hinzu kommt, dass nur vier Jahre Betriebssystem-Updates vorgesehen sind, wodurch das Edge 70 hinter Apple, Samsung und Google zurückbleibt. Das Edge 70 macht vieles richtig, dazu gehört auch der günstigere Preis im Vergleich zu den Konkurrenten, trotzdem kann ich es nicht empfehlen.

Wenn man solche Oberflächen mag, ist das schlanke und griffige Motorola Edge 70 ein echter Handschmeichler. In der Tasche trägt das leichte Handy kaum auf. Trotz filigraner Statur ist es ziemlich robust. Es bietet ein tolles Display, einen vernünftig dimensionierten Akku, der schnell und kabellos geladen werden kann. Die Dual-Kamera macht abgesehen von Teleaufnahmen gute Fotos und Makroaufnahmen. Das Tempo ist gut, aber nicht spitze.

Die Geschmäcker gehen auseinander, aber meiner Meinung nach macht das Motorola Edge 70 eine hervorragende Figur. Es schmeichelt dem Auge, es schmeichelt der Hand und gleitet wie kaum ein anderes Handy in die Tasche, wo es trotz Kameraknubbel kaum aufträgt. Dabei ist es kein Blender und bietet ein tolles Display, einen vernünftig dimensionierten Akku mit flottem Laden und macht abgesehen von Teleaufnahmen gute Fotos. Das Edge 70 ist schnell, kann aber bei der Rechenleistung nicht mit den formalen Konkurrenten iPhone Air oder Galaxy S25 Edge mithalten. Das Edge 70 ist hart im Nehmen und stellt nicht gleich beleidigt den Dienst ein, wenn es mal etwas kalt, feucht oder sandig wird. Bei so viel Anmut und Alltagstauglichkeit geht der Preis in Ordnung, der ja letztlich auch nur einen Ausgangspunkt markiert.

Das Motorola Edge 70 kann im Test als besonders handliches Smartphone punkten, das trotz seines nur sechs Millimeter dünnen und 159 Gramm leichten Gehäuses kaum Kompromisse eingeht. Das 6,7 Zoll große OLED-Display überzeugt mit einer gestochen scharfen Darstellung, geschmeidigen Bewegungen bei 120 Hertz und hoher Helligkeit. Zudem liefert die Dual-Kamera mit 50 Megapixeln in jeder Linse starke Aufnahmen, wenngleich uns ein echter Telezoom fehlt. Die Silikon-Rückseite sorgt mit ihrer feinen Stoffstruktur für einen sicheren Griff, während das Gehäuse nach IP69-Standard hervorragend gegen Staub und Wasser geschützt ist. Mit einer Akkulaufzeit von unter 15 Stunden bringt uns das Gerät einigermaßen durch den Tag, ist trotz 68-Watt-Schnellladen in etwa 30 Minuten aber nur wieder für fünf Stunden einsatzbereit.

Fazit: Wow, das ist ein starkes Telefon. Schlank, leicht, ein schöner Bildschirm, gute Kameras und richtig konkurrenzfähige Akkulaufzeit. Hinzu kommt ein elegantes Design. Das Edge 70 macht vor, wie extrem flach Smartphones sein können - und trotzdem chic-verspielt. Hier muss man sich nicht entscheiden: Will ich dünn oder will ich Funktionen? Das Edge 70 liefert beides und ist neben der innovativen Technik im Gehäuse auch äußerlich mit dem Zweifarb-Look ein echter Hingucker. Wenn da nur nicht die Sache mit den unerwünschten App-Installationen wäre...

Auch wenn die Kameras nicht die Krone der Schöpfung sind: Das Edge 70 ist ein gelungener neuer Ansatz zum Thema superdünne Smartphones. Hinsichtlich der Materialauswahl und des Prozessors ist es pragmatischer als die High-End-Varianten von Samsung und Apple. Dafür trumpft es mit einem modernen Silizium-Kohlenstoff-Akku auf, der seine Vorzüge in Form von Akkulaufzeit deutlich ausspielt. Doch so attraktiv der Preis auch ist, durch die vielen aufgedrängten Apps und Werbeeinblendungen kann einem das gute Gefühl ganz schön vermiest werden. Natürlich kann man die Apps deinstallieren, den Live-Sperrbildschirm abschalten und eine andere Wetter-App benutzen. Aber bis man so weit ist, hat man womöglich schon reichlich Ärger in sich hineingefressen. Vielleicht ist es dann ja beruhigend, ein wenig an der Schachtel des Motorola Edge 70 zu schnüffeln. Denn der entströmt – kein Scherz – laut Datenblatt ein »unverwechselbarer Verpackungsduft«.

Extrem dünn, überraschend robust und farblich ein Statement: Was steckt wirklich im Motorola Edge 70? Wir waren bei der Vorstellung vor Ort und haben das neue Smartphone ausprobiert. Hier ist unser erster Eindruck. Auf den ersten Blick präsentiert sich das Motorola Edge 70 als besonders schlankes Smartphone mit auffälliger Farbpalette. Klassisches Schwarz oder Weiß sucht man hier vergeblich. Stattdessen stehen drei markante Varianten zur Auswahl: ein tiefes Dunkelgrün mit goldenen Akzenten („Bronze Green“), ein petrolfarbener Ton mit orangenen Highlights („Lily Pad“) sowie ein graublaues Modell mit blauen Details („Gadget Grey“). Besonders das petrolfarbene Modell dürfte viele von euch visuell ansprechen – auch unser Testgerät in Bronze Green macht optisch einiges her. Motorola setzt bei der Farbgestaltung auf eine Kooperation mit den Farbspezialisten von Pantone und bringt seit Jahren trendbewusste Designs auf den Markt.

Until you’ve picked up and held a thin phone, you probably won’t get the appeal. Trust me, once you have, they make complete sense. Whether you then accept the compromises in battery and camera performance is up to you and your requirements. The thing is, thin phones better suit mid-range specs, purely because it's hard to stuff the very best tech inside. They're primarily design-over-specs devices, and the more reasonable cost of the Edge 70 means it makes better sense than other examples that pretend to be high-end models. Yet, it’s very well-made, durable, and available in some fantastic colors. The camera is fine, performance is good if you’re not a high-end gamer, and there’s long support for the software.

We appreciate the large OLED display with its high resolution and fast refresh rate, and the phone's battery life turned out to be excellent, matched by equally impressive charging speeds. We also have to give credit to Motorola for its clean and thoughtful approach to Android. And then there are the cameras, which deliver excellent results both day and night - ultimately becoming the phone’s most unexpected highlight. The chipset performance is not very competitive.

Probably not, though it is the best example of an ultra-slim phone so far. The Edge 70 combines that thin and light chassis with genuinely strong battery life, immediately raising it above the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 FE. Its design is one of the best on any phone, with great aesthetics and top-tier durability. While the cameras aren’t quite top tier, you can get some excellent results from both the main and selfie lenses. However, the lack of a telephoto lens means zoom photography is pretty awful. But the big surprise is the poor software experience. Motorola’s once-slick take on Android has become a bloated mess that’s full of useless pre-installed apps and ads at every turn. Meanwhile, the commitment to only four years of OS upgrades falls behind the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. The Edge 70 gets a lot right, including a more affordable price tag than rivals, but it’s a phone I simply can’t recommend.

But I’m not so sure about the Motorola Edge 70, which has fallen in with the wrong crowd by trying to follow the new thin-phone ‘trend’. Super-thin smartphones are starting to feel like a new bandwagon that tech companies are leaping on, apparently after having noticed the huge lack of interest buyers had in the last bandwagon: AI. This bandwagon’s turning out no better: we didn’t love the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, and the iPhone Air was lambasted online, and so the Motorola Edge 70 has a lot to prove.

Ultrathin phones, in my mind, aren’t true flagships, despite the fact that they usually cost close to a grand. They don’t offer the same high-end camera hardware, processing power takes a hit in such a thin chassis, and the battery leaves much to be desired. That’s why Motorola’s Edge 70 feels like the first slimline phone that makes sense. It’s not a flagship, with a much more comfortable £699 price tag that makes the ultrathin compromises much easier to swallow. And even then, Motorola has managed to up the competition in the all-important battery life and charging department, which alone should make the Edge 70 a tempting alternative to the iPhone Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The only real chink in its armour is the chipset. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 isn’t exactly a powerful chip, and that’ll immediately put some off.

It's not perfect, but this slim Moto boasts several upgrades vs the flawed iPhone Air. The big one is that near 5000mAh battery, which means this phone can happily last a full, demanding day on a single charge - while other thin phones need a top up before evening. Factor in the fast charge support and the Motorola Edge 70 is a clear winner here. Performance isn't as strong sadly, with a mid-range Snapdragon chipset in charge. All the same, most casual gaming fans should be happy enough, while the everyday experience is smooth. That camera setup includes an ultra-wide, so the Motorola Edge 70 again has an advantage over the iPhone Air there. I like the stock Android vibes, while Moto now offers a more respectable upgrade promise. You've got some decent bonus features, from a well stocked gaming mode to excellent gesture support. Plus the Motorola Edge 70 serves up a quality display and stereo speakers.

I can’t recommend the Motorola Edge 70. Although it offers the best balance between price and functionality of any ultra-thin smartphone I’ve tested, I don’t think that this particular form factor is there yet. If brands don’t drop the idea entirely, I do not doubt that the next generation (or perhaps the one after that) will be even thinner and lighter, while offering better performance and battery life – switching to silicon-carbon cells will be a big help there. For the time being, if you’re desperate for an ultra-thin phone, this is the one to buy. The lightweight build is wonderful, and the price isn’t as tear-inducing as the other options. To anyone else, however, I’d say you’re better off waiting and seeing where this particular trend leads before putting down your money.

Every crazy thin phone I’ve tested to date has been forced to compromise in one way or another. The Edge 70 is the closest any have come to being the total package, which is impressive given it has a more mainstream price than the key competition. It’ll comfortably last a day of use, and won’t keep you waiting when it’s time to refuel. Motorola hasn’t skimped on the styling or materials, either. Performance and camera image quality are more in line with the more affordable side of the mid-range spectrum, though, so you’re definitely paying over the odds in order to lose a few millimetres. If photography or gaming grunt matter more, you may want to shop around.

Qualcomm Adreno 722: Eine relativ leistungsstarke iGPU für Android Tablets, Telefone und Handhelds, die zusammen mit dem Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC debütierte und über eine unbekannte Anzahl von Unified Shadern verfügt (Stand: August 2025).

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
