Overall, the Galaxy A8+ is a solid successor to last year’s Galaxy A7 (2017) model. Samsung has adopted the Infinity display and the design of the S8 and Note8 series. The Galaxy A8+ (2018) is in a bit of an awkward position. It isn't very convincing when seen next to the OnePlus 5T (Review) and Honor View 10 (Review), especially because of the features and capabilities that Samsung still reserves for its flagships. We don't think the new Galaxy A8+ it's strong enough to fend off the OnePlus 5T at exactly the same price. Camera quality is severely disappointing, and the implementation of dual front cameras just leaves us confused. Despite its Infinity Display, the phone's design doesn't really scream for attention. While the performance is good, it's let down by software bloat. On the other hand, high-quality sAMOLED screen is great, and the battery life is excellent.

Modell: Das Galaxy A8+ Modell aus dem Jahre 2018 ist für die A-Serie von Samsung ein Aufbruch. Das ‘A’-Phone gehört zur Mittelklasse und bietet viele Merkmale von Samsungs Premium-Smartphones. Beispielsweise verfügt es über ein Glas-Metall-Sandwich-Design, Gorilla-Glass-Schutz, einen hochauflösenden Super-AMOLED-Bildschirm, eine Kamera mit weiter Blende (f1.7) an der Rückseite, IP68-zertifizierte Wasser-/Staub-Resistenz, Samsung Pay (NFC-basiertes, kontaktloses Zahlen, welches im Handel Fuss fasst) und schließlich einen schnellen Octa-Core-Prozessor kombiniert mit 6 GB RAM und 64 GB internen Speicher. Das Design ist durchwachsen. Es sieht und wirkt wirklich erstklassig, ist jedoch um einiges dicker und schwerer als nötig. Das Phone nutzt einen 6-Zoll-Bildschirm mit einem Seitenverhältnis von 18.5:9, doch es wirkt klobiger als etwa das Galaxy S8/S8+ und Note 8. Erfreulicherweise bietet es einen 3,5-mm-Audio-Ausgang, Fast-Charging und einen Fingerabdruckleser an der Rückseite. Samsung schneidet mit seinen Super-AMOLED-Bildschirme ausgezeichnet ab und bei diesem Phone ist es nicht anders. Die Farben sind lebendig, Schwarztöne sind tief und Always-On kann aktiviert werden. Die Auflösung beträgt 2.220 x 1.080 Pixel. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Variante der FHD+-Auflösung, die aufgrund des Seitenverhältnisses benötigt wird. Der Bildschirm selbst löst, anders als die Flagship-Modelle mit FHD+ und nicht QHD+ auf und das Panel ist nicht gekrümmt. Daher ist der Gesamteindruck nicht so atemberaubend wie beim Note 8.

Der Exynos 7885 Prozessor gehört (im Gegensatz zum Snapdragon 835) nicht wirklich zur Flagship-Klasse, doch er bietet für alle Aufgaben einschließlich Gaming, Multimedia und Multitasking eine respektable Leistung. Die meisten User werden damit keine Engpässe erleben. In Kombination mit 6 GB RAM und ausreichend Speicher erhalten User ein Phone, das vorwiegend ruckelfrei arbeitet. Zudem bietet es Bluetooth 5.0 und ist leistungsstark genug für ausgezeichnetes VR. Das A8+ ist tatsächlich das erste A-Serien-Phone, welche mit Samsungs Gear VR Headset kompatibel ist. Die Kamera-Leistung ist insgesamt ausgezeichnet. In der Praxis und den Ergebnissen wirkt es wie ein Flagship. Die f1.7-Kamera an der Rückseite bietet dem User ein sehr schönes, natürliches Bokeh und sehr gute Ergebnisse unter schlechten Lichtbedingungen. Die Dual-Frontkamera bietet einen sehr fähigen Hochformat-Modus. Nur optische Bildstabilisierung fehlt, doch das bietet auch kein anderes Phone in dieser Preisklasse. Seltsamerweise kann die Kamera Videos nicht in 4k-Auflösung aufnehmen, sondern ist auf 1080p beschränkt. Samsungs Android-Benutzerschnittstelle ist heutzutage sehr leichtgewichtig, obwohl manche Arten von Apps trotzdem doppelt vorhanden sind. Beispielsweise inkludiert Samsung den eigenen Web-Browser zusätzlich zu Chrome, eine Mail-App zusätzlich zu Gmail, Galaxy Apps zusätzlich zu Play Store und S Voice zusätzlich zu Google Assistant.

Serie: The Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 is a handset for those after a compact phone, one on an affordable contract, or a device that can be bought SIM-free. Most of Samsung’s phones of previous years were plastic, even the fairly expensive devices. The Samsung Galaxy A3 demonstrates just how far the company has moved on from that style. This device is composed of glass and metal, with barely any plastic on show at all. The front and back glass are big-brand Gorilla Glass 4, and the rear features curved edges for a softer feel. Beneath the screen is a reliable fingerprint scanner couched between the two soft keys, just as in Samsung’s larger phones. Also included is a headphone jack. In addition, the Galaxy A3 is water resistant. Its IP68 certification means that an accidental drop in water is unlikely to cause damage. As is the case with the majority of new handsets, the Samsung Galaxy A3 has a USB Type-C charging port rather than micro-USB. The phone has just 16 GB of storage, which is a little disappointing since the device offers only 9.8 GB of available internal memory and 481 MB of RAM without installing any apps. However, there is a slot for a single microSD card in the tray. The Samsung Galaxy A3 has an unusual speaker placement. Rather than sitting on the bottom of the device, it can be found on the side, above the power button. Speaker quality is fine, with enough volume to cut through some ambient noise.

For display, the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with punchy colors that can be calibrated to suit the user’s taste. For those who like a super-vivid look, it’s there. If a more relaxed colour is desired, it's possible to just switch to the "Basic" mode in Settings to achieve this. The Samsung Galaxy A3 has a 13 MP rear camera with a f/1.9 lens. However, the camera lacks optical image stabilization. Around the front sits an 8 MP selfie camera. It's capable of producing decent images in good light. The phone uses an Exynos 7870, a CPU with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.6 GHz, and a Mali-T830 GPU. Samsung also includes masses of pre-installed apps, which aren't entirely welcome since the Samsung Galaxy A3’s storage is limited. There's the Microsoft Apps suite, including Word and OneNote. S Health is probably the most interesting of Samsung’s own apps. This is now a full fitness and 'wellness’ platform, allowing the user to simply track steps, but also log user’s food and GPS-track hikes, cycles and walks as well. There's only a small increase in battery capacity from 2,300 to 2,350 mAh. The 2,350 mAh battery is well suited to the Samsung Galaxy A3’s small screen, and when used in a way that exploits this, the Galaxy A3 lasts for some time. The 2017 Galaxy A3 is a low-end smartphone with all the necessary features of a high-end device. Hence, the slightly higher price tag is justified.
