Minisforum EliteMini HM90 Desktop-PC mit schneller AMD-Ryzen-APU im Test

Office oder Multimedia PC? Minisforum hat mit dem Mini-PC EliteMini HM90 einen schnellen Desktop-Rechner auf Basis eines AMD Ryzen 9 4900H am Start. Welche Vorteile der kleine PC bietet und ob sich ein Kauf lohnt, klären wir in diesem Review.

Minisforum ist hierzulande noch nicht sehr bekannt. Gleichwohl führt der chinesische Hersteller schon seit geraumer Zeit Mini-PCs für den Office-Betrieb. Mit dem EliteMini HX90 gibt es inzwischen aber auch einen kleinen Gaming-PCs, den Minisforum in seinem Portfolio führt. Zuletzt sammelte der Hersteller allerdings mit diesem ordentlich Kritik.

Mit dem Minisforum EliteMini HM90 deckt der Hersteller primär Office- und Multimedia-Anwendungen ab. Geleichwohl soll dieser aber laut eigener Webseite auch mit spielbaren Frameraten in mehr oder weniger aktuellen Games zurechtkommen. Was man von den Werten halten soll, dazu kommen wir später noch. Als Herzstück sorgt der AMD Ryzen 9 4900H für ein ordentliches Arbeitstempo, der in dem EliteMini HM90 tatsächlich eine sehr gute Performance an den Tag legt. Der Mini-PC kann sowohl als Barebone, als auch vorkonfiguriert mit RAM und SSD erworben werden. Für das Barebone-System muss man derzeit 419 Euro einplanen. Für die Ausstattung mit 32 GB Arbeitsspeicher und einer 512 GB fassenden SSD werden hingegen 659 Euro fällig. Der Versand erfolgt direkt aus China und ist kostenlos. Für die Einfuhr in Deutschland muss jedoch die Einfuhrumsatzsteuer von 19 Prozent noch mit einkalkuliert werden. Gelistet wird der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 auch mit einem AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, wenngleich dieser momentan ausverkauft ist und preislich nicht viel besser dasteht als die von uns getestete Version mit der Ryzen 9 APU.

Unser Testsample ist mit 16 GB RAM und einer 256 GB großen SSD bestückt. Zudem wird das Gerät, sofern es sich nicht um die Barebone-Version handelt, auch mit Windows 10 Professional ausgeliefert. Verbaut wird alles in dem kleinen Gehäuse mit 149 x 55 x 149 (BxHxT) Millimetern. Damit ist der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 etwas größer als der Cubi 5 M10 von MSI. Aber der Intel NUC 10 ist in Sachen Abmessungen etwas kompakter.

Geliefert wird der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 in einem stabilen Karton mit sämtlichen Zubehör, um das System in Betrieb nehmen zu können. Das relativ große Netzteil mit USB-C-Stecker fällt dabei deutlich auf. Weiterhin finden wir noch zwei Adapterplatten, um zwei zusätzliche 2,5-Zoll-Massenspeicher im EliteMini HM90 unterzubringen. Eine Vesa-Halterung für die Befestigung an einem Monitor ist ebenfalls vorhanden und fast schon Standard bei solchen Mini-PCs. Unter der Bezeichnung Elitemini finden sich auf der Webseite noch viele weitere Konfigurationen. Hier lohnt sich ein Blick, falls der EliteMini HM90 nicht die erste Wahl sein sollte.

Gehäuse & Ausstattung

Das Gehäuse besteht aus einem Aluminiumkörper, wenngleich aber die Oberseite und auch der Boden aus Plastik gefertigt werden. Bei der Stabilität hat der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 keinerlei Probleme. Für ein besseres haptisches Feedback hätten wir es aber besser gefunden, wenn auch die Oberseite aus Aluminium bestehen würde. Das ist aber Meckern auf hohem Niveau, denn optisch gibt es keine erkennbaren Mängel. Auch farblich passt die Oberseite aus Kunststoff zu dem Aluminiumkörper. Die Farben Weiß und Silber dominieren und sind eine gute Wahl, denn Staub fällt nicht sofort ins Auge, was bei einem schwarzen Gerät deutlich schneller der Fall sein würde.

Öffnen lässt sich das Gerät an der Unterseite problemlos. Vier kleine Schrauben fixieren die Bodenplatte an dem Gehäuse. Darunter gelangt man sehr gut an RAM, SSD und auch das WLAN-Modul. Ein weiteres Zerlegen ist möglich, wenngleich der Hersteller hier aber die Antennenkabel an dem WLAN-Modul mit einer Art Kleber überzogen hat, der zuerst entfernt werden muss. Hierbei besteht die Gefahr, dass die Kabel zerreißen, weshalb wir in diesem Fall davon abgesehen haben. Ein weiteres Zerlegen ist auch nicht nötig, denn laut Hersteller sollte der CPU-Kühler nicht demontiert werden, da dies sonst zu einem Defekt an der APU führen kann. Außerdem liegt im Lieferumfang ein Hinweis, dass Flüssigmetall verwendet wurde und wir gehen davon aus, dass der Kühlkörper verklebt ist.

Bei den externen Anschlüssen bietet der EliteMini HM90 viele Möglichkeiten für Zusatzgeräte. Insgesamt fünf USB-A-Schnittstellen sind mehr als ausreichend. Gleichwohl gibt es an der Front auch noch einen TypC-Anschluss. Externe Bildschirme können über DisplayPort oder HDMI angesteuert werden. Aber auch der USB-C-Port bietet die Möglichkeit der Bildausgabe mittels passendem Adapter. Somit kann der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 insgesamt bis zu drei Displays gleichzeitig bedienen.

Leistung - Sehr viele Reserven

Wie schon erwähnt, werkelt in dem Minisforum EliteMini HM90 ein AMD Ryzen 9 4900H, welcher aus der Notebooksparte stammt und somit als sehr sparsame APU in kleinen PCs problemlos zu kühlen ist. Die Leistung des 8-Kerners ist in jeder Hinsicht für den alltäglichen Office- oder Multimedia-Einsatz völlig ausreichend. Tatsächlich langweilt sich die APU bei einfachen Arbeiten, aber wie heißt es so schön? Haben ist bekanntlich besser als Brauchen. Die 16-GB-DDR4-RAM stehen dem System gut und sorgen im Dual-Channel-Betrieb auch für die beste Leistungsausbeute. Bei der SSD kann man geteilter Meinung sein, aber 256 GB reichen für den Anfang jedoch aus. Dank vorinstalliertem Betriebssystem ist der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 nach wenigen Minuten der Einrichtung und Personalisierung startklar.

Prozessor

Der verbaute AMD Ryzen 9 4900H gehört zur Renoir-Serie und basiert somit auf der Zen2-Basis. Insgesamt bietet das SoC 8 Kerne mit insgesamt 16 Threads, was vor allem bei Multi-Thread-Anwendungen zugute kommt. In den CPU-Benchmarks kann sich der Ryzen 9 4900H gegen die Konkurrenz weitestgehend durchsetzen. Die Single-Core-Leistung ist etwa auf dem gleichen Level, wie beim Intel Core i7-10710U welcher im Intel NUC 10 steckt. Erstaunlich gut kann unser Testsample auch mit dem Zotac Magnus One in Puncto CPU-Leistung mithalten, wenn wir dabei berücksichtigen, dass in dem kompakten Gaming-Rechner eine Desktop-CPU steckt.

Der AMD Ryzen 9 4900H ist mit 45 Watt Leistungsaufnahme spezifiziert. Im BIOS des Minisforum EliteMini HM90 lässt sich jedoch das Power-Limit auf bis zu 54 Watt erweitern. Im Test konnten wir jedoch nach dem Umstellen auf das höhere Power-Limit keine signifikanten Verbesserungen feststellen.

Cinebench-R15-Multi-Schleife

Beim Lasttest mit der Cinebench-R15-Multi-Schleife kann der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 den AMD Ryzen 9 4900H sehr gut kontrollieren und insgesamt eine gute Leistung abliefern. Mit durchschnittlich 1.880 Punkten schneidet unser Testsample recht gut ab. Im Vergleich zum Einzeldurchlauf ist das Ergebnis etwa 100 Punkte schlechter. Beim Intel Ghost Canyon NUC fällt das Defizit mit 130 Punkten etwas größer aus.

System Performance

Bei den synthetischen Benchmarks der System Performance kann der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 zeigen was in ihm steckt. Deutlich absetzen kann sich unser Testsample von dem Intel NUC 10 auf Basis des Intel Core i7-10710U. Gegenüber dem Intel Ghost Canyon NUC und dem Zotac Magnus One hat es unser Testgerät aber zunehmend schwerer. Der Grund ist hier die fehlende dedizierte Grafikkarte, die in den synthetischen Benchmarks wertvolle Punkte kostet. Bei den gemessenen Latenzen unter Last und bei der Wiedergabe von 4K-Videomaterial schlägt sich der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 recht gut, wenngleich nach dem Start des 4K-Videos die Latenzen leicht ansteigen. Dennoch sind wir aufgrund der Leistung von einem etwas besseren Ergebnis ausgegangen. Hier scheinen die Treiber noch nicht perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt zu sein.

Massenspeicher

Unser Testsystem weicht mit einer 256 GB fassen NVMe SSD etwas von den vorkonfigurierten Systemen auf der Shopseite des Herstellers ab. Bestellt man sich kein Barebone-System so bekommt man immer eine 512 GB SSD, die fürs Erste auch für die meisten Anwender reichen sollte. Auch unser 256 GB Modell recht, wenn man es nicht übertreibt. Im Test konnte unser Modell mit der verbauten Kingston SSD passable Ergebnisse liefern. In dem Minisforum EliteMini HM90 lassen sich insgesamt bis zu drei Massenspeicher unterbringen. Dabei kann man auf eine M.2 2280-Schnittstelle zurückgreifen, die in unserem Fall bereits mit der 256 GB SSD belegt ist. Alternativ gibt es noch die Möglichkeit zwei Massenspeicher im 2,5-Zoll-Format zu installieren. Diese werden an die Bodenplatte geschraubt und direkt mit Kabeln an die Hauptplatine angeschlossen. Alle Halterungen, Schrauben und auch die Kabel sind Teil des Lieferumfanges.

Grafikkarte

Die integrierte Grafikeinheit des AMD Ryzen 9 4900H hört auf den Namen AMD Radeon RX Vega 8. Die iGPU der mobilen Ryzen-APUs haben inzwischen schon einige Jahre auf dem Buckel, was sich auch in Sachen Leistung widerspiegelt. Waren die iGPUs anfangs noch sehr konkurrenzfähig zu damaligen iGPUs von Intel SoCs, so geriet AMD nun nach und nach unter Druck und muss sich schlussendlich gegenüber den aktuellen Intel Iris Xe iGPUs der aktuellsten Tiger Lake SoCs geschlagen geben. Minisforum kann sich leider nur der Hardware bedienen, die es derzeit auf dem Markt gibt. Somit ist beim verbauten AMD Ryzen 9 4900H leider nicht mehr 3D-Performacne zu erwarten.

Minisforum setzt beim EliteMini HM90 auf einen Axiallüfter, der von oben die kalte Lust ansaugt und nach unten auf den Kühlkörper presst, sodass die warme Luft seitlich aus dem Gehäuse entweichen kann. Das System arbeitet gut und im Test gab es keine Leistungseinbrüche, welche auf zu hohe Temperaturen zurückzuführen wären. Bei Betrieb auf dem Schreibtisch sollte man also darauf achten, nichts auf dem Gerät abzulegen, damit genug Frischluft angesaugt werden kann. Außerdem verwendet der Hersteller Flüssigmetall zwischen CPU Die und dem Fühlkörper an sich. Prüfen konnten wir dies jedoch nicht, weil eine Demontagen mit einer Beschädigung am SoC einhergehen kann. Bei voller Last haben wir beim AMD Ryzen 9 4900H maximal 86,3 °C erreicht, wenngleich die iGPU mit 74 °C etwas kühler gewesen ist. Damit rangiert das SoC deutlich im grünen Bereich und es besteht kein Grund zur Panik. Wird nur ein Teil des SoC belastet, so sind die ermittelten Temperaturen noch etwas geringer. Einen nachhaltigen Einfluss hatte die Dauerbelastung allerdings nicht. Das Ergebnis des 3DMark11-Benchmarks ist im Vergleich zum Kaltstart fast identisch und schwankt nur im Bereich der Messtoleranzen um wenige Punkte.

Geräuschemissionen

Bei einem Arbeitsgerät, ganz gleich ob Notebook oder Desktop-PC, erwarten wir eine geringe Geräuschbelastung, denn nichts ist schlimmer, als ein nerviges Lüfterrauschen. Hier hat Minisforum sehr gute Arbeit geleistet. Der einzige Lüfter misst 75 Millimeter und dreht recht gemächlich seine Runden. Auch im Leerlauf steht dieser nicht still, wenngleich dieser aufgrund der geringen Drehzahl nur hörbar ist, wenn man sein Ohr ganz dicht an das Gerät hält. Mit 30,8 dB(A) ist haben wir hier eine nur minimal hörbare Geräuschquelle. Aber auch bei voller Belastung durch den Stresstest können wir nicht wirklich störende Geräusche wahrnehmen. Mit 32,5 dB(A) ist der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 nun etwas lauter geworden, aber dennoch ist dies ein sehr leises Betriebsgeräusch. Die Lüfterdrehzahl wird sehr sanft reguliert und es gibt kein zwischenzeitliches aufheulen durch hohe Drehzahlen.

Energieaufnahme

Beim Energiebedarf ist der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 recht sparsam, wenngleich Intel mit seinen NUCs etwas besser abscheiden konnte. Unterm Strich bietet der EliteMini HM90 mit seinem 8 Kerner aber deutlich mehr Leistung. Beim GPU-Stresstest kämpfen der Zotac Magus One und auch der Intel Ghost Canyon NUC aufgrund der dedizierten Grafikkarte mit ungleichen Voraussetzungen, sodass hier nicht zu viel hineininterpretiert werden sollte. Maximal konnten wir unserem Testsystem aber nur 85 Watt entlocken, womit das relativ große 120-Watt-Netzteil spielend zurechtkommt. Da unsere Konfiguration keinen 2,5-Zoll-Datenträger beinhaltet, ist somit noch genügend Spielraum vorhanden.

Fazit - Tolle Leistung aber verschenktes Potenzial

Minisforum EliteMini HM90 im Test, zur Verfügung gestellt von Minisforum

Beim Minisforum EliteMini HM90 handelt es sich um einen sehr kompakten Mini-PC, welcher aufgrund der Ausstattung vielmehr ein Allrounder ist, als ein klassischer Office-PC. Mit dem verbauten AMD Ryzen 9 4900H bietet der kleine Rechenknecht eine sehr gute Leistung bei Multi-Thread-Anwendungen. Dank der Vorteile durch Zen2 ist auch die Single-Core-Performance auf einem guten Level und kann mit den Intel Comet Lake-U SoCs mithalten. In der uns zur Verfügung gestellten Version mit 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher und einer 256 GB großen SSD ist man für den Office-Alltag sehr gut gewappnet. Dabei ist das SoC tatsächlich in den meisten Fällen unterfordert. Natürlich ist es besser noch gewisse Leistungsreserven zu haben. Doch gepaart mit einer dedizierten Grafikkarte würde der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 auch als kompakter Gaming-PC eine gute Figur abliefern. Die Einschränkung keine Thunderbolt-Schnittstelle zu verbauen, schränkt die Nutzung also etwas ein.

Der Minisforum EliteMini HM90 ist ein sehr leistungsstarker Allrounder und möchte nicht nur mit einfachen Office-Aufgaben gefüttert werden. Die Leistung des AMD Ryzen 9 4900H ist da und kann auch ohne Einschränkungen genutzt werden.

Wer den kleinen PC als Streaming Client im Wohnzimmer verwendet, wird von dem leisen Betriebsgeräusch positiv beeindruckt sein. Zudem sorgt das SoC für eine sehr gute Multimedia-Performance. Aber auch nur eine iGPU vorhanden ist, kann mit dem Minisforum EliteMini HM90 das ein oder andere Spiel gezockt werden. Abstriche bei Auflösungen oder Details müssen bei neueren Spielen jedoch in Kauf genommen werden. Mit Casual-Games kommt die AMD Ryzen APU aber wunderbar zurecht.

Rein von der Optik her muss einem die Farbkombination aus Silber und Weis schon zusagen. Eine alternative Gehäusefarbe gibt es seitens Minisforum für den EliteMini HM90 nicht. Insgesamt können wir aber keine negativen Kritikpunkte bei der Optik finden, denn durch den Verzicht von Klavierlack, den einige Mitbewerber verwenden, beugt man den deutlich sichtbaren Mikrokratzern vor.

Preis und Verfügbarkeit

Den Minisforum EliteMini HM90 gibt es als Barebone-Version bereits ab 419 Euro direkt beim Hersteller. Wer jedoch etwas tiefer in die Tasche greift, kann das Gerät für 659 Euro mit 32 GB RAM und 512 GB SSD ergattern.
