Der Core Ultra 7 255H und der Core Ultra 9 285H zählen innerhalb der mobilen Arrow-Lake-Plattform zu den schnellsten H-Series-CPUs von Intel. In der Praxis liegen beide Prozessoren jedoch nur wenige hundert MHz auseinander, was keinen nennenswerten Leistungsunterschied zwischen den beiden SKUs erwarten lässt. Nachdem wir inzwischen mindestens zwei Dutzend einzelne Laptops mit diesen CPUs getestet haben, lässt sich klar festhalten: In den meisten Fällen lohnt sich der Aufpreis für den Core Ultra 9 285H kaum.
Die unten gezeigte Vergleichsgrafik verdeutlicht, dass der durchschnittliche Laptop mit Core Ultra 9 285H lediglich rund sechs Prozent schneller ist als ein durchschnittliches Modell mit Core Ultra 7 255H. Der Abstand fällt so gering aus, dass es sogar mehrere Fälle gibt, in denen Notebooks mit Core Ultra 7 ihre Core-Ultra-9-Pendants übertreffen. Beispiele dafür sind etwa das Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 16IAH G10 im Vergleich zum MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo. Das deutet darauf hin, dass Baugröße und Kühllösung des Notebooks in diesem Vergleich einen deutlich größeren Einfluss auf die Leistung haben als die reine Prozessorbezeichnung.
So naheliegend der Griff zum Core Ultra 7 255H für die große Mehrheit der Käufer auch ist, dürfte es nicht immer der leichteste Weg sein. Das Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 16 etwa ist in den USA etwa überwiegend nur mit Core-Ultra-9-CPU erhältlich. Abhängig von Modell und Region kann es daher schwierig sein, günstigere Konfigurationen mit Core Ultra 7 zu finden. In der Folge sind diese Laptops oft teurer, als es ihre gebotene Leistung pro investiertem Euro rechtfertigt.
