Our time with the Razer Blade at PAX Prime 2012 was all too brief, but we were intrigued by the combination of raw power, tight form factor and the stunning Switchblade UI. The Blade impressed us when it was first announced in August 2011 as part of Razer's "PC Gaming's Not Dead campaign", and the San Diego-based computer maker has certainly made its point. This new redesign is very exciting, especially at the not-unaffordable price point of $2499. We look forward to putting the Razer Blade through its paces for a full review!

Razer made a huge splash with the Blade at CES 2012 thanks to its extremely thin profile, fancy LCD backlit keys and trackpad and promise of high gaming performance. For the most part, this system does deliever as being the thinnest 17-inch on the market with its unique trackpad and programmable buttons.

You can't accuse Razer of playing it safe. Razer's first laptop, the Razer Blade, is a thin gaming computer with some futuristic design touches, but a high price means you're paying for design -- and for the second-screen signature Switchblade UI interface that doesn't do as much as we hoped it would...yet.

Before starting on the Blade itself, let’s talk about what it represents to Razer as a company. This is Razer’s first foray into the PC space, and it’s a very, very solid first effort. There are definitely some details that show they’re new to this game, but they’re the kinds of things that Razer will figure out as they move forward.

Unfortunately it's going to be out of reach of many and I really hope Razer come back soon with a cheaper model, maybe a 15-inch version with some cut down specs, to open up the Blade laptop to the mass gaming market. To Min and the rest of the Razer team, just don't ditch the SSD though and keep all your cool bits you added to the Blade, as it is a really good product in my opinion and deserves the hype surrounding it. Now, I think I was about to install Battlefield 3 on the Blade, allow me to get back to it, will you?

The Razer Blade is definitely a niche product, and an odd one at that. You’ll get some fast hardware in a well-designed package, but because of the placement of the touch screen, the laptop feels really wide. Even though this thing comes equipped with a large 17.3-inch screen, there’s no optical drive, and hardcore gamers might also find that they’ll run out of space pretty quickly with only 256GB on the SSD. With a $2,700 sticker price, you probably have some incredibly specific gaming needs if you’re the target for this machine.

It takes quite a bit of bravado to claim that this machine is going to "save PC gaming," but I can see where Razer's going with this. Consoles have stolen the limelight, largely leaving us PC gaming fans stuck with shoddy ports. A product like the Blade is supposed to get people talking again, about the unique features and opportunities you can only get on a PC. I'm still partial to desktops, and that $2800 price tag gives me pause -- it's closer to the higher end of the desktop replacement category. But well heeled gamers take note: this is one to watch.

Starting with the build quality and design of the new Razer Blade we have a system which has taken the Ultrabook concept and built a gaming system around it. This of course means a significant change in size to accommodate the large 17" display but also allows a much more flexible choice of components. The overall build quality of the Blade is very good with the metal chassis finished nicely.

Razer's New Blade system corrects many of the performance issues that plagued the original model of thin gaming laptop. In particular, the graphics and processor and now much closer to a full gaming system than the past model. The drawback still is the extreme price tag that is nearly a thousand dollars more than many similarly performance equipped systems.

So if you're a LAN party aficionado looking for something lighter than the usual massive gaming laptops, Razer's Blade is a sleek system that will turn heads. But if you're looking to acquire a thin, light 17-inch laptop as a tool for photography or other general use, you'll want something else.

The new Blade makes good on its promise of improving its internal specs to a level we expected in the first place. It's still impressively thin, runs games better than before, and has a striking design. However, the Switchblade UI, while innovative in concept, doesn't yet have the sort of gaming support it needs. Who knows when it will. The Blade is the most portable of the big-screen gaming laptops, and the new version improves on the first.

If you want truly portable gaming, there's no passing up the Razer Blade (2012). With its lightweight, slim design, and relatively long battery life, the Blade is one of the few gaming laptops that will actually game on the go. It's also one of only two laptops on the market to feature the Switchblade interface (the other is the previous Razer Blade laptop). You'll get better raw performance if you pick up the Editors' Choice Alienware M17X R4, but unlike the Alienware, you actually can pick up the Razer Blade (2012) since it's half the weight. And while the $2,500 price of the Blade may seem a bit steep, it's not hard to justify for on-the-go gaming.

At the end of the day the new Razer Blade provides a very unique experience for PC gamers. Of course, you can get a far better specced gaming laptop for far more than the single option available on the new Razer Blade, like Alienware; or slightly better specs with a slightly lesser price point, like MSI and ASUS. However, none of those companies have the build of the new Razer Blade, vis-à-vis real portability.

Though they are unwilling to release sales figures, Razer claims that the original Blade was an unqualified sales hit, with demand far outstripping supply in the first number of weeks after it went on sale. Undoubtedly, they weren’t manufacturing units in any huge volumes, but it’s safe to say that Razer themselves weren’t expecting the Blade to sell as fast as it did. But even though the original Blade was a success, it wasn’t really a hard product to follow up.

While the Blade remains a quirky and wholly unique computing — and gaming — computer, I’m hard-pressed to name a more enjoyable gaming laptop. Razer Blade 14 inch

The Razer Blade (2014) is disappointing, mostly because we had such high hopes. Razer still manages to outfit the laptop with some amazing capabilities, but it feels like the company reached too far, too soon, stepping up the resolution at the expense of gameplay, and opting for powerful hardware that chews through battery life and runs alarmingly hot. Past models of the Blade left us eagerly anticipating the point when Razer could finally bring everything together into an ultraportable gaming system that required no compromises, but between the heat, the short battery life, the display issues, and the higher price, we're still left waiting. The previous model, the Editors' Choice Razer Blade (2013), is still available through Razer and other retailers, so it remains our top pick for ultraportable gaming, thanks to better battery life and a more affordable price.

Razer Blade 14 2015

If you want a gaming laptop, and you want one that’s actually portable, you don’t have many choices outside of the Razer Blade. Thankfully, it’s a well-equipped option with an attractive exterior, solid performance, and decent battery life. Unfortunately, you pay a premium for the Blade’s bright spots.

Razer continues to dance gracefully along the edge of power and portability. The updated Blade ($2,399) retains some of my favorite things (design, keyboard, display and battery life) and updates the rest with a powerful Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M GPU. The result is a laptop that not only delivers solid frame rates, but can also easily double as a powerful multimedia or business notebook.

All told, the Razer Blade remains, as it has since 2013, one of the sleekest and most stylish, not to mention most portable, of gaming laptops. And whereas, in our review of the 2014 model, we suggested the Blade was better off at the 1,600x900 resolution of its predecessor, we can now say with confidence that the 2015 Razer Blade performs well enough to work and play at 1,920x1,080 and higher resolutions.

Whether it's for gaming, multimedia enjoyment, work or all of the above, the Razer Blade is a fantastic choice if you need high performance, but don't want to sacrifice mobility to get it. Battery life and price are the only real downsides here. If neither are an issue for you, put it at the top of your list.

The fact that the Razer Blade 14 is not officially sold or supported in the United Kingdom hasn’t stopped enthusiast users importing it. As we discussed earlier in the review, Amazon are now working with a select group of partners, offering various configurations for sale under the AMAZON PRIME delivery service. These dealers are also offering 1 year technical support and warranty terms, via local UK repair stations. Of course without official support there is an extra risk involved, but hardcore UK Razer gamers wanting the most portable, powerful gaming solution may find this too good to resist.

With a new processor and graphics card, the Razer Blade (2015) delivers better graphics performance and longer battery life than its predecessor, fixing two of the bigger problems I had with the 2014 Blade. Heat is still a big concern, but that's a problem endemic to the category. As it stands, the Razer Blade 2015 not only outshines the 2014 model, it also offers a better overall value than the previous Editors' Choice, the Razer Blade (2013). If you still aren't sold on the new Razer Blade, the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K is a great alternative (and our top pick for midpriced gaming laptops), but the Razer Blade (2015) is our Editors' Choice for ultraportable gaming.

Razer Blade 14 inch 2016

Of the three new Razer laptops, the Razer Blade is probably my favourite. It’s the best option for someone who needs a good laptop for work, a good laptop for gaming, and doesn’t want to compromise in either direction. We've always appreciated Razer's Blade gaming laptops for their attention to build quality and design. It's something that, at the time of their debut, was a bit lacking in the world of Windows notebooks. From the start, Razer has always been after a very specific type of gamer. And, it's only in this revision that we think we're starting to see who that is. With the addition of Thunderbolt 3, doubling the video RAM and cranking up battery life: Razer has made its Blade a rather appealing option to people that both work (or study) in visual fields and happen to be PC gamers.

Sure, you can find a similarly spec'd laptop for a few hundred less, but not one that crams this performance into such an ultraportable form factor. Add in USB-C, the promise of the Razer Core, and that PCIe SSD? Pretty snazzy. So if you need a laptop today, and can’t wait for the 1070 to go mobile and start making its way into products, the 2016 Blade is a solid choice.

Of course, by that way of thinking you’ll be waiting around for the next big thing indefinitely and never get to enjoy what’s available in the present. As it stands today, the 2016 Blade is an excellent contender for anyone looking for a sleek and lightweight gaming notebook with room to grow. You can likely get a bit more bang for your buck elsewhere although be prepared to take on a bit more bulk in the process.

I’m very impressed with this year’s version of the Razer Blade. It is a very powerful laptop, considering the small size, it gets solid specs, and let’s not forget it still offers decent battery life. On top of that, the 2016 is more affordable than the previous Blades. However, you do have to consider the fact that this laptop still only comes with an Nvidia GTX 970M graphics chip, while soon to be released GTX 1070M laptops should offer a significant performance bump.

Razer's Blade laptop has come a long way from when it was first introduced. The latest version continues to improve on many of the flaws that kept it from being a great laptop for those that want to game on the go. The system offers some great power in a portable package but the price is still quite high. With a little more tweaking, Razer could end up with a truly spectacular laptop.

The Razer Blade is impressive, packing high-end hardware into such a slick chassis, but it comes at a cost. The 2016 Blade starts at $2,000 for the version with a 256GB PCIe SSD. The highest-end Asus UX501 costs just $1,700, and you get a 512GB SSD, 4K touchscreen, and 960M.

To be honest, I'm still not sure I'll buy a Blade. As much as I love its solid construction and perfectly weighted hinge, I need to see how long the battery lasts. Razer Blade (2016)
„It’s not the fastest gaming notebook on the planet but at just 4.5 pounds (2,04 kg) with a profile that’s thinner than a dime standing on its side, you’ll have no trouble tossing it in your backpack as you walk out the door”, schreibt TechSpot. Allerdings meint TechSpot: „Perhaps the only thing not to like about the screen is that it’s glossy and has a high reflection factor”.Tastatur und Trackpad
UltrabooReview meint: „It works very well in my opinion, correctly registering all my touch gestures without fail. Tracking was accurate and it felt very smooth to the touch and comfortable to use”. UltrabookReview berichtet: „Like the Razer Blade Stealth, the Razer Blade uses a very unique keyboard. It’s Razer’s Chroma variant, so each key is programmable to 16 million color choices. So if you ever wanted a keyboard with the ability to make each key a different color, this is the one for you“.
UltrabookReview klagt: „Unfortunately, the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, so there is no way to upgrade it in the future”. Weiters denkt diese Seite: „Under full gaming load, the laptop’s fan start to get extremely loud. The pitch was pretty high, which made the noise more noticeable to others in the room”.Battery Life and Audio
Über den Akku schreibt UltrabookReview: „The Razer Blade lasted a stellar 7 hours and 45 minutes before shutting down using stock “Power Saver” power profile, 40% brightness, Wi-Fi off, bluetooth off and running 720p movie in a continuous loop. I am pretty impressed with the battery readings I was able to measure with the Razer Blade”. „Unfortunately, the speakers aren’t the highest quality in terms of putting out sound. Still, as far as gaming laptops go, they are pretty good”, meint UltrabookReview.Fazit
„I’m very impressed with this year’s (2016) version of the Razer Blade. Although there are a couple areas that need a little more work, I think they’ve improved in a couple key areas that have piqued my interest”, meint UltrabookReview.

Solid as a Rock. Was soll da noch schiefgehen?

I am therefore a little torn by the Razer Blade. It’s a gorgeous little thing, with a simply stunning-looking screen and an impressive specs list, but if you were hoping for all-day gaming in line with its Ultrabook styling you’d be sorely disappointed with your expensive purchase. In the end then it’s still a gaming laptop and that means a complete reliance on tethered power and blowy cooling, just with a nicer chassis.

There are plenty of reasons why this laptop deserved to win our Best of Year award, but it's really the combination of all those strong assets that make this latest Blade a strong choice. With Apple sacrificing so many critical assets on its pro machines, it's great to see that Razer is unafraid to continue offering users what they want and need in a package that truly focuses in on the highest performance possible. If you opt for the Blade over a similarly-equipped MacBook Pro, you won't be giving up much, and what you get in return is a top-notch typing experience, blisteringly fast graphics, and a lower price. Headed into 2016, it's the professional PC laptop to beat. Even dyed-in-the-wool Mac people should consider the Blade they're looking to switch from the Mac to a comparable Windows PC with the best performance available.

The new Razer Blade brings an unmatched combination of performance and portability, with new components that put it beyond the power of its 970M-wielding forebear. It doesn't lose anything in the process, and in fact gains longer battery life. It's probably not worth upgrading if you already have the previous model, but if you held out for a Pascal card, you're in luck. The Alienware 13 comes close, but the Blade offers a bigger screen (especially important as some might already consider 14 inches too small), a longer-lasting battery, and a nicer design. If you expect to take your laptop with you frequently, or move it around often, the Blade is unbeatable due to its power and build quality, earning our Editors' Choice for ultraportable gaming laptops. If your system will remain more stationary, you don't mind carrying a bigger laptop, or you are set on a larger, higher-resolution display, our recommendation in this price range is the HP Omen 17.

The 2017 Razer Blade is stronger and longer lasting than last year’s, making that steep price tag all that much easier to justify. But, as the Blade begins to out-pro the MacBook Pro much less comparable gaming laptops, we'd like to see more original features come to this model.

There are other alternative computers that offer the same specs as the Blade, but none offer the same premium and portable design. And that’s why you should consider Razer’s beefy laptop: To receive a level of refinement few others can match.

If you like to game on-the-go, you can't get much better than the Blade. Between the slim profile and top-tier components, it not only packs serious computing power, it's also one of the most portable gaming laptops I've ever seen. Whether you're tweaking that presentation at the airport or watching Stranger Things on your morning commute, it's the type of laptop that works well as a productivity machine too.

The main factor that will prevent people from buying the Razer Blade is its price. The Blade starts at $1,900 for the model with 256GB of storage, but really you’ll want to spend at least $2,100 to net yourself a 512GB SSD. This makes the Blade several hundred dollars more expensive than any equivalent GTX 1060 gaming laptop, even slim competitors from MSI and Gigabyte. If you want the best, you’ll need to pay for the best.

The only other point of contention is how much of a gaming experience can you appreciate from a 14-inch screen as opposed to the more common 15.6-inch gaming notebook models, for which there are plenty of choices. This clearly boils down to personal needs like high portability, yet wanting to have great gaming hardware equivalent to the larger notebooks. If so, the Razer Blade is your clear choice. However, if you clearly prioritize the need for a larger screen for better visual impact, which is quite important for gaming casually or professionally, you should consider the 15.6-inch gaming notebook tier instead.

But at the end of the day, the Razer Blade is largely effortless machine. While it lacks the customization of a full-sized gaming desktop, Razer’s made great choices when it comes to the Blade’s hardware, leaving you with a powerful, actually portable gaming laptop that looks great and most importantly, plays games great. The Razer Blade may be based in compromises, but Razer seems to have found a niche that makes it just right.

Still, the $1899 Razer Blade does so much right that we are more than comfortable recommending it. This machine has been a lot of fun to play with over the last couple of weeks. Yes, there's better price/performance value for the money on the market currently, but we'd be hard-pressed to find another notebook that performs on the level of the Razer Blade in such a sharp, lightweight package.

The Razer Blade is an impressive machine. If a gaming desktop is out of the question and a huge gaming laptop sounds like an unpleasant burden, look no further than Razer’s colorful and slim alternative. The addition of a 4K UHD display, latest Intel processor, and increased memory make for a solid update over past models. Well, it depends. The Blade 14 (2021) is a solid gaming laptop even with Razer having released an updated version with newer GPUs and a few other improvements. If you’re in need of a laptop upgrade, there’s no shame at all going with the older Blade 14 model. Especially since you can now pick it up for less than what it was when it launched last year. Having said that, if you’re going to pick up the Blade 14 over a similar laptop from another brand, you’re probably best off with the RTX 3060 model, or either of the RTX 3070 models. You can get last year’s with the RTX 3070 or the refresh with the RTX 3070 Ti (it also comes with the Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU as opposed to the 5900HX), priced at $2,199 and $2,599 respectively. Overall, the Blade 14 is pricey but if you want something portable in a 14-inch form factor that still packs a punch, this is the way to go. It’s portable and it’s powerful. Though, if you’re not entirely stuck on the 14-inch size, the Blade 15 might be a better fit. As you’ll get better performance without adding much weight or thickness.

Like its direct rival from ASUS, the Razer Blade 14 Ryzen finds itself in a unique position among a sea of gaming laptops. It is one of the few laptops currently on the market that can boast having some of the more premium hardware on tap and on top of that, cramming it all into a chassis that is significantly thinner and smaller than conventional laptops. As far as thin and light gaming notebook goes, it is easy to see how Razer has long dominated the market segment, and the Blade 14 Ryzen is a testament that serves to reaffirm the brand’s standing in it. For AMD and its Ryzen 5000 Mobile series, the CPU attached to this machine can be summed up in two words: repeat performance. Despite some minor flaws to the Blade 14 Ryzen’s choice of design – along with the exorbitant price tag – there is little that would dissuade me from recommending this laptop to gamers and, more importantly, long-time Razer fans that are intent on maintaining their loyalty towards the company.

The Razer Blade 14 sits amongst the stars. It doesn’t shine the brightest, but it performs well, and the concessions Razer makes to create a beautiful PC package are reasonable. You won't crank out 160 frames per second in your favorite games using the laptop's native resolution, highest quality settings, and tons of ray tracing, but you'll get great results in all but the most graphically demanding games. Even then, you can always enable Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology in a game’s menu to give your frame rates a boost.

Still, that doesn’t mean it’s overpriced for what you’re getting, and there’s a lot to like. After spending time with the system, we can say the build feels premium, and it’s extremely portable, comfortable to use, long-lasting, and plenty powerful for gaming. It’s not the first 14-inch gaming laptop, by far, but it is the first we’ve tested with top-tier power and little compromise. The Alienware m15 is our top pick for prioritizing power; the Razer Blade 15 is our favorite still-portable 15-inch laptop; and the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE is the best budget-friendly 14-inch system. It doesn’t seize any of those niche crowns away from the other three but establishes its own kingdom, earning an Editors’ Choice award on terms it defines.

I’ll come right out and say it – the Razer Blade 14 really blows me away. To have this kind of performance come out of a 14-inch form factor that is under 4 lbs, is pretty awesome by itself. Add in the fact that it doesn’t throttle under load, is built well, has a nice screen and trackpad, and even has decent battery life? Amazing! Of course, all these add up to a hefty price tag, and cramming powerful hardware inside this kind of format does lead to high chassis temperatures and loud fans in sustained demanding noise.

If you’re looking for the most power-per-pound you can get, the Razer Blade 14 is the ideal gaming laptop for you. Fourteen inches won’t be enough screen for everyone, of course, especially at this price point — and plenty of shoppers may be willing to give up the fancy RGB and a few frames per second in favor of the unbelievable battery life the Zephyrus G14 and G15 offer. There are a few knocks against the Blade — namely the poor webcam, the chassis’s fingerprint retention, and the steep price tag — but if none of those are dealbreakers for you, I see no reason not to recommend it. There’s really nothing else like it on the market.

The Razer Blade 14 is back in grand fashion and I’ve got to say, I couldn’t be happier. When it debuted back in 2013, the Blade 14 was the pinnacle of thin-and-light gaming and now it’s returned to reclaim the throne. As it relaunches, the laptop is coming in thinner and lighter than its predecessor and much more powerful. I, for one, can not wait to get this laptop in to see how well it does against the competition as it’s got some powerful specs and some lofty claims to live up to, particularly regarding battery life. And while it might cost a pretty penny, if Razer’s penchant for big power in small packages holds up, the Razer Blade 14 will be well worth the splurge.

Is the Razer Blade 14 a faultless machine? It comes pretty close. Some will argue that the display is a little on the small side for prolonged gaming, but I’m not going to criticise a 14in laptop for having a 14in display, and though it’s not exactly cheap at the top end, the entry-level model is good value. Beyond that, the Blade 14 is an impressive machine in every way: it’s fast, stylish, well made, has a good keyboard and a very decent sound system. It also comes loaded with many of the extra features a hardcore gamer would insist on, while still being smart enough to not look out of place in more sober environments.

That's because high-end gaming performance for mobile devices in 2021 is inextricably linked to thermals, and the small, restrictive, confines of the Razer Blade 14's design (and its smaller cooling system designs) will inevitably deliver lower gaming performance from a GPU as hungry as an RTX 3080 than if it was used in a stockier chassis - like, say, a 15 or 17-inch one (like the ASUS Strix Scar 15 we've compared). It’s really a trade-off between performance and portability. The plus point for the Blade 14 series is that there’s also a lower-tiered version that comes with an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU paired with a 1080p 144Hz display. I think this makes for a more ideal and better-for-your-dollar gaming ultraportable notebook because the RTX 3060 runs at a lower TDP, and so the Blade 14’s cooling doesn’t limit it as much as it does with the RTX 3080. There's also an RTX 3070 version with the same screen as the model we've reviewed and at a thousand dollars cheaper than our review machine, that's something to consider.

Razer’s Blade family of gaming laptops has long been the go to choice for hardcore gamers looking for elegant powerhouses. The company’s latest entry, the Blade 14, might be their most exciting entry yet. Billed as the smallest 14-inch gaming laptop, the Blade 14 mashes the fastest mobile CPU together with the most powerful GPU into an impressively sleek and svelte form factor. The good news is that the Blade 14 delivers on the promise with very few compromises, but, at a starting price of $3,099, you’ll need deep pockets to acquire one. So is it worth the investment?

The Razer Blade 14 is a beautifully designed, carefully arranged laptop that deals with the issues of fitting seriously powerful hardware into a seriously slim frame like a pro. This is one the few gaming models we can imagine using as our only laptop - sure it weighs more than an ultraportable, but the difference amounts to an extra can of Coke in your bag. The Razer Blade 14 is classier than the Asus Zephyrus G14, and its build is flat-out lovely. However, it does cost a fortune. For most of us it's a laptop to daydream about rather than own. But at least it's a laptop worth daydreaming about.

I’ll come straight to the point: The Razer Blade 14 is a great looking notebook that comes with quality parts and components. If you’re looking for an ultraportable form factor notebook that basically does anything you throw at it – be it for creativity work or high-performance gaming – then there really isn’t any other notebooks quite like the Razer Blade 14 in the market now. When it comes down to it, there is so much about the Razer Blade 14 laptop to like. The specs are sharp, it’s a really nice looking machine and works across productivity and play. The screen is an absolute delight to look at as it’s so easy on your eyes with the high refresh rate and — while it’s not super light — it’s light enough to carry around with you daily. If you’re in that user bracket, are likely to push it beyond the capabilities of other laptops and have the money to drop on a laptop like the Blade 14 Pro, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it because this really is the laptop I’ve wanted for years.

Thanks to the balance of screen size and weight, I generally like 14-inch laptops better than the alternatives. I've never found the smaller screen size to affect my immersion in games; as much as I love me a massive desktop display, once I'm in, I'm in. So there's a lot to love with the Razer Blade 14, which incorporates one of the fastest mobile CPUs available (for now, at least), the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, and top-end mobile graphics with the GeForce RTX 3070 or 3080. With Razer's trademark black-slab design, it very much feels like the middle child between the Blade 15 and Blade Stealth 13.

If you’re like me, when you hear the term “gaming laptop” you probably think of massive, 17-inch desktop replacement machines – in other words, pretty much every laptop I covered during the quarantine days of 2020. Well I still love those behemoths, but now that we’re getting back to being “mobile,” there’s a lot to be said for packing all that gaming PC power into something a lot more portable. And that’s just what Razer has done with the reboot of its three-year-old Razer Blade 14: blended power and portability into a delightfully compact (and refreshingly priced) laptop. The Blade 14 is a well-designed machine that can run demanding games at high settings. It's also small and light enough to carry around for productivity work. The keyboard isn't perfect, and it could use a few more ports, but you could say the same thing about many portable gaming laptops. The Alienware m15 R4 is still a worthwhile competitor, if you don't mind a slightly larger screen. Otherwise, the Blade 14 is back after a long hiatus, and it’s worth the premium.

In terms of audio, we can’t expect anything much from the small chassis. It’s loud and enough for normal use, but lacks treble and bass for the audiophiles. Still, it’s a reasonable compromise for the performance it has packed in. If you’re not looking for a gaming laptop, the Razer Blade 14 might seem like an overkill but the entire package of performance plus portability is simply too much of a temptation, making this a natural option for a quality laptop.

As mentioned already, the 3070 model at $2199 would be my go-to here, but I wouldn’t look past the 3060 base-variant either, which starts at $1799, so $300 on top of a similarly-specced Zephyrus G14. This base variant ships with an FHD 144 Hz screen with 100% sRGB colors, but that should be fine for most of you, and I’d expect the performance gap between the 3060 and the 3070 to be around 10-15%, based on our tests of these chips at 80-100W of power.

Razer's Blade line of gaming laptops are among our favorites, not cheap but arguably the cream of the crop for hardcore gamers. We've reviewed and applauded 13-, 15-, and 17-inch models, and the new Blade 14 (starts at $1,799) hopes to hit a power and portability sweet spot. This compact chassis is just 0.66 inch thick but manages to pack an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics, a head-turning proposition for gamers on the go. The system seen here is a pre-production unit, so we haven't given it the official review and benchmarking treatment, but can still share our impressions of this sleek premium machine.

Razer Blade 14 is currently the world's most powerful 14-inch gaming laptop in the market, featuring the newest AMD CPU and NVIDIA graphic processors. Razer’s first 14in laptop gets plenty right – the RTX 3060 is a rock-solid mainstream gaming chip, and the AMD processor is quick and versatile. The familiar design is robust and good-looking, the keyboard is crisp and connection options are good. The Blade isn’t infallible though. Battery life is middling, larger keyboards are more satisfying, and the Blade is pricier than the marginally slower Asus. These compromises aren’t surprising in this form factor, though, and they’re not deal-breakers. This is an excellent small laptop, and well worth buying if you want a compact, portable gaming machine.

The Razer Blade 14 has the performance to handle any modern game, plus the CPU grunt to tackle content creation. It’s slim, light and good-looking, with a superb screen and responsive keyboard. So if you want a small and capable gaming machine, the Blade ticks many boxes. But it’s not perfect. Larger laptops extract more speed from the same components and the Blade sometimes runs too hot. Razer’s machine is expensive, too: these components can be found cheaper, albeit in chunkier portables. Its arch rival, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, is better if you want a 14in gaming notebook with lengthier battery life, but it suffers in many of the same areas as the Blade – and it doesn’t cost any less. Plenty of people will be happy to pay the price for this level of power in such a slim and portable package. But be aware of what’s available elsewhere.

The Blade 14 starts at $1,800 with an RTX 3060 and a 1080p 144Hz screen. Given that price point, I'd recommend the Blade 15 for most shoppers. You'd get a larger screen, more customizable and faster hardware, as well as fewer thermal restrictions. And when it comes to 14-inch competition, the ASUS Zephyrus G14 is another solid choice (though I'd give Razer the upper hand when it comes to long-term reliability). Still, there’s a lot to love about the Blade 14. More so than the overpriced Blade Stealth 13, this new model is a light laptop that'll satisfy most of your hardware demands. So if you're in love with the idea of a sub-four-pound Blade, and don't mind the compromises involved, then go with the gaming gods.

The slim, light design does mean that the graphics card and processor don’t reach their full potential, though, and the Blade is sometimes hot and loud. Gaming battery life is an afterthought, and the small form factor does mean compromises to the keyboard layout. The Blade 14 is also premium-priced as expected. The RTX 3060-based Razer arrives at $1,799, but you can buy an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 with a nearly-identical processor and graphics core for around $1,549. And if you don’t need a 14-inch display, then larger 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch laptops with an even faster GPU can often cost less. The Razer Blade 14 is not perfect, but it crams an awful lot of gaming and application power into a small, stylish, high-quality build. If you’re a fan of Razer’s sleek design and want a compact gaming notebook then this is certainly worth buying.

When it comes to compact gaming laptops that can handle the best games around and still be used on a coffee shop table, the field is a pretty narrow one – and the Razer Blade 14 might just be the best of the current crop, if you can handle its expensive price point.

Even with diminished ray tracing performance, Razer’s Blade 14 is still worth considering, especially for those with deep pockets. The Blade 14’s incredible 1440p display is just one reason of many to throw down the extra cash on something that not only makes colors pop and blacks super inky but will also hold up over time.

A pricey but powerful system squeezed into a slim, lightweight laptop that doesn’t sacrifice durability despite its compact design. The Razer Blade 14 provides seriously good gaming performance at 1080p and 1440p resolutions, with a vibrant 165Hz display and a great selection of physical ports. The small size means the keyboard feels a bit small, but this is undeniably a lovely little laptop that I’m sad I have to send back to Razer.

The Razer Blade 14 Ryzen 2022 is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, an absolute beast. Whether I am using it to join in on the fun of gaming with a few of my buddies while I’m out of town, or when I need to churn out a couple of articles to post while I’m out of town, believe me when I say: it does not disappoint. The one potential deal breaker that I see for the Blade 14 Ryzen 2022 and more specifically, for this SKU, is its asking price. At RM12599, it’s a damn sight pricier than its predecessor, let alone the new Zephyrus G14. However, one could argue that Razer always puts a premium on its products and for that matter, their products rarely disappoint. Well, most of them anyway. If you’re coming up from the previous generation Blade 14 Ryzen, I recommend that you stick with that machine; even with the graphical gains you get from the RTX 3070 Ti, you’re still holding an equally high-octane beast of a laptop, so there’s really no benefit in you trading up to this one.

Razer has the science of packing tons of power into a tiny chassis down to an art. Companies like Asus, MSI, Acer, Lenovo, and others have recently swapped the traditionally bulky gamer aesthetic for designs that fit better into a work environment. (Acer’s Triton SE 300 is a great example.) But all those companies usually sacrifice something to keep the price as low as possible, whether that’s keyboard quality, battery life, or a dim and color-muted display. The Razer Blade 14 not only has the look but it also has premium extras like a fantastic keyboard and great battery life to back it up. But you’ll pay a pretty penny to get them. If spending $2,600 on a gaming laptop is too rich for your blood, and you’re not particularly fond of Razer’s aesthetic, there are a plethora of options that will net you powerful gaming performance for hundreds of dollars less. The Asus ROG Strix G15 with a last-gen Ryzen 9 5900HX nets similar performance to the Blade 14, as does the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Gen 6, MSI Delta 15, and many others.

1.767 kg:
Most smartphones and only a few tablets fall into this weight category. Only a few smartphones are heavier and should rather be considered tablets.
3.2 kg:
This weight range is typical for laptops and the middle ground between portability, passable screen size and performance.
