Das Xiaomi 17 ist eine sehr gute Wahl, wenn dich zwei Dinge stören: Smartphones, die zu günstig sind – und Smartphones mit einem zu großen Display. Denn trotz des vergleichsweise kompakten Gehäuses bietet das Xiaomi alle Features und ein Leistungsniveau, das wir von einem Android-Flaggschiff erwarten. Vor allem das helle und flüssige 120-Hz-OLED-Display machte im Praxis-Test Spaß. Xiaomis Hyper OS 3 ist zudem eines der hübschesten Android-Betriebssysteme, die es auf dem Markt gibt. Lediglich die vorinstallierten Apps sind uns wie bei anderen Xiaomi-Smartphones ein Dorn im Auge. Große Patzer leistet sich der Hersteller sonst aber nicht. Die in Zusammenarbeit mit Leica entwickelte Triple-Kamera wirkt auf den ersten Blick leistungsschwächer als in anderen Smartphones – die Kameras mit ihrem weniger aggressivem Weitwinkel und dem schwächeren Tele sind in vielen Situationen aber alltagstauglicher als die Kameras anderer Handys. Im Vergleich zu denen konnten wir beim Xiaomi 17 deutliches Thermal-Throttling feststellen. Im Alltag fiel uns das aber nicht weiter negativ auf, da genug Leistungsreserven vorhanden sind. Zudem läuft das Xiaomi 17 dank sehr ausdauerndem Akku auch dann, wenn andere Modelle aufgeben. Ein Kauftipp und ein Hoffnungsschimmer am Horizont der kleineren Smartphones!

Bereits das Xiaomi 15 hatte da als kompaktes Smartphone seine Stärken und das Xiaomi 17 setzt hier nun nochmals gewaltig einen drauf. Der neue Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 ist hingegen nicht der große Kaufgrund für das kompakte Flagship der Chinesen. Die Überhitzung ist ein Thema und das wird euch wohl auch bei allen Flagships 2026 weiter begleiten. Am Display ändert Xiaomi ebenfalls nichts und bleibt damit im unteren Helligkeitsbereich der Flaggschiff-Smartphones zurück. Dafür gibt es sichtbare und hörbare Verbesserungen bei der Kamera. Die Soundqualität bei Videos ist exzellent und auch die neue Selfiekamera liefert bei Fotos und Videos ab. Unter den kompakten Smartphones muss sich Xiaomi in Anbetracht überschaubarer Konkurrenz in Form eines Pixel 10 (Pro) (zum Test), Samsung Galaxy S25 (zum Test) und iPhone 17 Pro auf unserem Markt nicht wirklich anstrengen, aber übertrifft die Konkurrenz gerade beim Akku um Längen. Ob 2026 hier jemand etwas entgegenzusetzen hat, wird sich dann spätestens beim globalen Release zeigen. Stand jetzt ist das Xiaomi 17 das mit Abstand beste kompakte Smartphone auf dem Markt. Und dabei gibt es zumindest in China noch ein weiteres kompaktes Modell in Form des Xiaomi 17 Pro (zum Test), das mit einer noch besseren Kamera aufwartet.

Das chinesische Unternehmen hat mit dem Xiaomi 17 ein beeindruckendes Smartphone gebaut. Aber auch das herrlich kompakte Xiaomi 17 ist ein hervorragendes Smartphone. Es fädelt sich mit seiner sehr guten Testnote ganz knapp hinter das Xiaomi 17 Ultra und vor das Xiaomi 15 ein. Hinsichtlich Tempo, Akkulaufzeit, Ausstattung und Displayhelligkeit wäre sogar noch mehr möglich gewesen – hier ist das Xiaomi 17 spitze und hängt den Vorgänger ab. Aber im Labor traten auch kleine Schwächen zutage, die die genannten Stärken wieder zunichte machen. Der Schärfeeindruck der Selfiekamera war mangelhaft und die Abdeckung des erweiterten Farbraums war vergleichsweise schlecht.

Hence, we think it remains as one of the best options for compact phone lovers who still want true flagship performance and experience. Das Xiaomi 17 Pro überzeugt prinzipiell als kompaktes Flaggschiff mit gutem Display, exzellenter Alltagsperformance und hervorragender Akkulaufzeit dank 6.300mAh Kapazität. Die Verarbeitung liegt auf hohem Niveau, das Design wirkt edel, auch wenn die Rückseite aus Kunststoff statt Glas besteht, was man aber durchaus auch als Vorteil werten kann. Im Vergleich zu anderen aktuellen Flaggschiffen gibt es leider beim Kamerasystem einige Schwächen. Die Lichtstärke fällt vergleichsweise schwach aus und bei Nacht zeigen sich deutliche Probleme mit Linsenflecken an der Ultraweitwinkel-Kamera. Die Farben tendieren im Leica Authentic Modus allgemein eher zur Leblosigkeit, ganz besonders bei Kunstlicht Aufnahmen. Der bekannte Xiaomi Fokus-Bug (Springen / Pumpen beim Laufen) in Videos tritt auch hier auf.

Gerade der Zoom war für Urlaubsfotos immer wieder Gold wert. Dazu kommt das Zweitdisplay für hervorragende Selfies. Einen schwerwiegenden Kritikpunkt gibt es beim Xiaomi 17 Pro leider bei Videos. Ansonsten zählen zu den kleineren Nachteilen das Thermal-Throttling und die Einschränkungen der China-Version. Auch das Display bietet nicht die Helligkeit anderer Flagships und der neue Snapdragon Prozessor liefert nicht mehr Leistung als der alte Top-Prozessor.

Die Kombination aus verbessertem Weißabgleich, herausragendem Dynamikumfang dank LOFIC-Technologie, sehr gut abgestimmten Kameras mit Blick auf die Farben untereinander und der einzigartigen variablen Telekamera mit 200MP Sensor macht das Gerät zu einem vielseitigen Kamera-Smartphone. Wer viel fotografiert und dabei gehobene Ansprüche hat, wird die Fortschritte gegenüber dem Vorgänger deutlich merken, allen voran der endlich konsistente Weißabgleich, der beim Xiaomi 15 Ultra noch regelmäßig für Frust gesorgt hatte. Nur bei der Farbsättigung wird das Xiaomi 17 Ultra Freunden einer sehr natürlichen Abstimmung weiterhin nicht ganz zusagen. Einschränkend kommt noch hinzu, dass das Gerät bei der Ultrawide- und Frontkamera keine Spitzenleistung liefert, insbesondere was die Low-Light-Performance angeht. Jenseits der Kamera ist das Bild etwas durchwachsener. Das relativ schlanke, leichte Gehäuse mit flachem Design und IP68-Schutz macht zwar einen sehr guten Eindruck, doch das ausgeprägte Klappern der Kamera-Optik trübt das Gesamtbild und lässt Sorgen bezüglich der Robustheit beim Transport am Fahrrad- oder Motorradlenker aufkommen. Das Fehlen eines IP69 Ratings mag für manche auch ein Nachteil sein. Die Alltagsperformance des Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 ist tadellos, im direkten Benchmark-Vergleich verliert das Xiaomi 17 Ultra jedoch teils deutlich gegen günstigere Modelle aus dem eigenen Haus, wobei unklar ist, woran das liegt.

Im direkten technischen Vergleich liegt das Oppo Find X9 Ultra in nahezu allen Bereichen vor dem Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Egal ob bei der Performance, der Akkulaufzeit, der Displayschärfe und -helligkeit, der Fotoqualität oder der technischen Ausstattung. Selbst die vorinstallierte Android-Variante „ColorOS“ gefällt uns im Test besser und Oppo verspricht wie auch der Konkurrent, noch bis zum Jahr 2032 sicherheitsrelevante Updates bereitzustellen. Das Xiaomi 17 Ultra punktet im Test lediglich mit einer schnelleren Aufladung des Akkus, wodurch wir es nach 30 Minuten am Kabel schon drei Stunden länger nutzen können als das Oppo. Mit einem Gewicht von 219 Gramm fällt das Xiaomi-Flaggschiff zudem rund 17 Gramm leichter aus, was sich beim Halten jedoch kaum bemerkbar macht. Trotz der technischen Vorteile des Oppo Find X9 Ultra ist aber das Xiaomi 17 Ultra ebenfalls ein sehr starkes Smartphone. Gerade Kamera-Enthusiasten raten wir zwar zum Kauf des Oppos, doch auch mit dem Xiaomi machen Käuferinnen und Käufer nichts verkehrt.

Auf dem Papier sieht es aus, als hätte man es mit Zwillingen zu tun: Prozessor, Display, Akku, Kamera ... gleiche Spezifikationen, egal wohin man sieht. Aber es gibt Unterschiede. Und der Labortest hat gezeigt, dass gleiche Spezifikationen nicht unbedingt gleiche Leistungen hervorbringen.

Der Snapdragon-Prozessor und ein großer Arbeitsspeicher sorgen für eine Topleistung in Benchmarks. Der Rahmen kann unter Volllast aber auch etwas heiß werden. Im Alltag liegt das etwa 191 Gramm schwere Xiaomi 17 aber toll in den Händen – nicht zuletzt dank der flachen Seiten und runden Ecken. Auch die Stereo-Lautsprecher gefallen. Die Dreifach-Kamera mit Leica-Technik bietet jeweils 50 Megapixel in der Haupt- und Ultraweitlinse sowie der Telekamera mit optischem 2,6-fach-Zoom. Die Fotos überzeugen mit starken Details, natürlichen Farben und gutem Kontrast. 8K-Videos und eine 50-Megapixel-Frontkamera runden das starke Paket ab. Der Akku ermöglicht im Standardtest über 21 Stunden Dauernutzung und bringt uns damit problemlos durch intensive Tage. Every generation, I seem to enjoy Xiaomi’s Ultra effort for different reasons, but I’m glad the firm isn’t, like some rivals, just pumping out the same device year after year. For the 17 Ultra, the major change is a more familiar phone-style design, with flat sides and a fibreglass back, rather than the camera- style with vegan leather back. I’d like to see both available as options, as per last year, but the Starlit Green model I have looks nice and isn’t simply orange because an iPhone is. As long as you like the design here, the 17 Ultra ticks all the boxes you’d expect for a top-tier flagship: it has a dazzling screen, silky smooth performance, the latest wireless components, extras like an IR blaster you don’t find elsewhere, and one of the best camera systems in any phone right now. And that’s without factoring in the optional photography kits, which, compared to the likes of Samsung and Google, is still its secret weapon. Xiaomi has even kept the price the same as its predecessor, the 15 Ultra, which bucks the 2026 trend. Even so, if your heart isn’t set on an almost 7-inch phone with DSLR-like cameras, you can get similar performance for a lot less money – the regular Xiaomi 17 being a prime example. Those wanting all the extras won’t be disappointed with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, though.

If you know Leica, you know that’s the price to pay for the privilege of bearing one of the most coveted camera brands in history ... and I’ve spent two weeks trying to condense my thoughts about this latest "Leica Phone" into something coherent. From one viewpoint, it’s an impostor: a cynical money grab that wasn’t even built by Leica, can’t live up to the quality and won’t hold the value of a real camera. But while I understand that reflexive cynicism, I don’t share it. Because in my view, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica is everything a special-edition smartphone should be: it’s respectful to the heritage of the brand it’s building upon; it brings features (and photos) no other phone can produce; and it’s based on a flagship foundation with very few compromises. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra made me hate AI photos. I wasn’t a big fan of tweaking my photos using AI editing tools in the first place. There is a sense of personality in capturing imperfect photos. I am, after all, an incredibly average photographer! I know my photos aren’t artistic, and I’m quite happy with that. I don’t need an AI object eraser to remove people or objects, or (more recently) type and describe how I want my photo to look, and let AI do its thing. A lot of phones now offer several AI tools to help you create that “perfect” photo. So, imagine my surprise when Xiaomi said they don’t want to rely heavily on AI camera features, but rather deliver on true camera hardware to help capture perfect photos. After using the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s cameras this week on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc island, capturing over 500 photos, I can safely say I agree with their vision.

One thing’s for certain, this is among the best camera phones available right now.

Das Xiaomi 17 Pro Max hinterlässt im Test einen durchwachsenen Eindruck. Zu den absoluten Stärken zählen der sehr schnelle Prozessor, das Design und die sehr starke Hauptkamera bei Fotos. Herausragend ist die schier unendliche Akkulaufzeit, die in der Praxis ihresgleichen sucht. Das absolute Highlight ist aber das Display auf der Rückseite: Es bietet innovative Möglichkeiten zum Aufnehmen von Selfies und gibt dem Gerät einen eigenen Look. Die Schwächen finden sich bei den Sekundärkameras, der Video-Funktion und dem System. Die Ultraweitwinkel- und die Zoom-Kamera können nicht ganz mit der absoluten Flagship-Elite mithalten. Insbesondere ein Oppo Find X8 Ultra (zum Test) oder ein Vivo X200 Ultra (zum Test) können hier viel mehr abliefern und kosten auch nicht mehr. Ärgerlicherweise sind auch die Videos aufgrund des Xiaomi Fokus-Bugs unbrauchbar.

The secondary display is a nice touch, as it makes the Pro Max stand out, but, most importantly, it makes the selfie-taking experience with the rear cameras so much more flexible. Despite being so well-rounded, however, it's hard to recommend the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max if you are looking for an amazing camera phone. The cameras here seem good to the average Joe, but there are objectively better alternatives with more capable hardware right now, and the telephoto camera is a miss. Sadly, the camera department is the only one that keeps the 17 Pro Max from getting an excellent score.

The overarching theme here is that the Xiaomi 17T shares a great deal of features with its Pro sibling. So many, in fact, that my recommendation is firmly to forgo the Pro and save some cash with the standard model. You still get brilliant battery life, a pixel-perfect display, and that fantastic 5x telephoto camera – plus the rest of the cameras are great, too. More to the point, the issues that plague the Xiaomi 17T are, for the most part, flaws of the Pro model, too: the software is fussy, but universal across Xiaomi phones; the 17T Pro uses the same fiberglass on the rear (albeit with an aluminium frame) and, as is the case across the smartphone spectrum this year, prices have increased. So of the two, the Xiaomi 17T is firmly my favourite. As for how it compares to the rest of the competition? Well, that 5x telephoto camera is doing a lot of heavy lifting, but it is a unique feature that the chief players in this price range can’t match. If you favour photography above all else, the Xiaomi 17T is well worth your consideration.

The Xiaomi 17T provides more of a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor, with an improved camera array, stronger battery life and more stylish colour choices. Against key rivals, performance feels a little lacking, though, and I’m still not sold fully on HyperOS. The performance here is more in line with traditional mid-range handsets, such as the Nothing 4a Pro and the Google Pixel 10a, although it is somewhat above the Honor 600 in some respects. I think the other choices have a better skin of Android with less clutter, which makes a real difference. With this in mind, there’s a lot to like here that makes this the best T-suffixed non-Pro phone from Xiaomi yet – I’m just not sure it’s as much of a flagship killer as they may tout it to be. I do wish Xiaomi had improved on the placement of the fingerprint sensor from the Xiaomi 15T Pro. It's still located too low at the bottom of the screen, which can be awkward to reach. And while the 17T has an Always-On Display, you can't actually leave it permanently on so it's not really always on, I guess. The 17 Pro can be configured to do so, but it doesn't appear to be an LTPO display that can drop down to 1Hz to conserve power, so Xiaomi doesn't enable it by default to save power.

The Xiaomi 17T is a very easy phone to like. It gets a lot of the fundamentals right and then throws in a few genuinely standout features on top. The display is excellent, battery life is superb, and the camera setup is arguably among the best in this particular class, especially when it comes to zoom photography. The upgraded 5x telephoto camera alone gives the 17T a noticeable edge over many similarly-priced rivals and even makes it feel surprisingly close to its Pro sibling in actual day-to-day camera use. Performance is solid, too. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra might not be a true flagship-tier chipset, but it is more than powerful enough for everyday use and gaming alike.

I'm not going to talk about the software too much; the 17T Pro comes with Android 16 out of the box, and it is optimized to run fluidly on the phone. I didn't see any lag or slowdowns, but the software itself is in need of a visual overhaul, and it doesn't feel quite as modern to use as OriginOS and ColorOS. It wasn't all that long ago that you could get a Xiaomi T series phone for around $500. But the industry as a whole is trending upwards in this area, and it isn't just Xiaomi that's selling its value flagships at what would've been flagships prices three years ago (the Xiaomi 13 debuted at €999 in 2023). So, where does that leave the 17T Pro? You're not getting huge gains from the 15T Pro, so if you're able to get last year's phone at a discounted price, that would be my recommendation — it has 90% of the same features. But if you aren't able to get the 15T Pro at a decent deal and need a bigger battery, the 17T Pro is a viable alternative. I still think it's better to wait a little while before buying the phone — Xiaomi will inevitably lower prices over the coming weeks, like it does with all devices in its portfolio. If you'd rather not wait, POCO's F8 Ultra is a solid choice as well — it has a better design, amazing cameras, the latest internals, and a 6,500mAh battery — and it costs a much more reasonable €659 right now.

Overall, the Xiaomi 17T Pro is a great phone to own with everything that it can offer. It’s got a great set of cameras, a beautiful display, and a powerful chipset. There’s also a long lasting battery, which will last users more than an entire day of use. Then again there are some compromises. For starters, it’s not the most weather resistant smartphone out there with only an IP68 rating, and the ultrawide camera isn’t exactly the best, especially compared to the main and telephoto in low light.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro is a great all-rounder. The cameras are excellent, it's powerful, it looks and feels premium, and it comes at a lower cost than most flagship devices. The only problem is that it's very similar to last year's 15T Pro. If you own the older model, there's not really any reason to upgrade, unless your battery keeps dying prematurely. And if you're a savvy shopper, opting for the older model, or the frequently discounted base model Xiaomi 17, might make more sense. That said, if you're looking for a phone in this price range, the Xiaomi 17T Pro still stands out as one of the best options. It has a more versatile camera system and better video features than its closest competitors, the Honor 600 Pro or Vivo X300 FE, and it rivals them in performance, too. So, while it might not be the most exciting update, the Xiaomi 17T Pro remains competitive in 2026. I had a great time using it, especially the 5x telephoto, which continues to surprise me with its excellent results.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro feels like an excellent alley that fumbled the oop. The hardware, despite only improving on last year in a couple of places, is strong across almost the entire board. Performance rivals some of the best phones in the business and battery life is massively improved. Even the cameras, where I’d liked to have seen some upgrades, don’t actively do anything wrong. The proverbial fumble here is completely tied to the price. The forces that are putting pressure on phone prices the world over are far out of Xiaomi’s control, so perhaps it’s a little unfair to lay the blame for this at its feet, but we aren’t here to feel sorry for multi-million pound companies. We’re here to decide if you should buy the Xiaomi 17T Pro, and the answer to that is probably not, no. If you really fancy it, save some cash and get the standard Xiaomi 17T – it’s barely a downgrade but costs quite a bit less. If you’re brand agnostic, I’ll say what I always say when we’re judging phones in this price range right now: you won’t find better value for money than with the OnePlus 15.

However, in other ways it truly is excellent, as you'll see from my test shots and home movies. You'd hope that the battery life would be dependably long too, with the 7000mAh cell stuffed inside. Here's how the Xiaomi 17T Pro coped with regular everyday use, as well as gaming and more intensive stuff. So, are you tempted by this smartphone? Personally I'd lean towards flagships like the OnePlus 15 and OPPO Find X9 series, while the Poco X8 Pro Max offers many of the same Xiaomi 17T Pro benefits at a nicer price.

I do wish Xiaomi had improved on the placement of the fingerprint sensor from the Xiaomi 15T Pro. It's still located too low at the bottom of the screen, which can be awkward to reach. And while the 17T has an Always-On Display, you can't actually leave it permanently on so it's not really always on, I guess. The 17 Pro can be configured to do so, but it doesn't appear to be an LTPO display that can drop down to 1Hz to conserve power, so Xiaomi doesn't enable it by default to save power.

It’s questionable. Xiaomi said it launched earlier than expected to show off Leica’s camera experience to more people, something that doesn’t really add up considering the 17T Pro’s camera is extremely similar to the 15T Pro’s. However, the Xiaomi 17T Pro’s long battery life does save it. It’s a genuine day-to-day game changer, and an answer to a lot of people’s problems with modern flagship phones. This is one of the best examples of the benefits a silicon-carbon battery and an efficient processor can bring to a phone.

Xiaomi:

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Qualcomm Adreno 840: Integrierte Grafikeinheit im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC für Smartphones mit drei Slices mit je 1,2 GHz. Laut Qualcomm um 23% schneller als die Vorgängergeneration (Adreno 830). 

ARM Mali-G720 MP8: High-End Grafikchip für Smartphones mit 8 der 16 möglichen Kernen. Basiert auf die neue "5th Gen" Architektur (Nachfolger von Valhall) inklusive Variable Rate Shading (VRS) und Ray Racing (optional). Im Vergleich zum G715 sollen wieder 15% höhere Performance bei gleichen Taktraten möglich sein.

ARM Mali-G1 Ultra MC12: High-End Grafikchip für Smartphones mit 12 möglichen Kernen. Basiert auf die "5th Gen" Architektur (Nachfolger von Valhall) inklusive Variable Rate Shading (VRS) und Ray Racing (2. Generation).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8:

SD 8 Elite Gen 5: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2025 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert zwei schnelle Oryon Gen 3 Prime Cores mit bis zu 4,6 GHz und 6 kleinere Oryon Gen 3 Performance Cores mit bis zu 3,6 GHz.

Dimensity 8500: Der MediaTek Dimensity 8500 arbeitet mit acht ARM Cortex-A725-Kernen auf Basis eines „All-Big-Core-Designs“, das vollständig auf Performance-Kerne setzt. Dabei arbeitet 1 ARM Cortex-A725-Kern mit 3,4 GHz, 3 weitere mit 3,2 GHz, während die übrigen 4 Kerne als energieeffiziente Performance-Kerne dienen und mit bis zu 2,2 GHz laufen. 

Mediatek Dimensity 9000:

Dimensity 9500: Ein Flaggschiff Prozessor (SoC) für teure Android Telefone und Tablets. Nutzt drei CPU-Cluster basierend auf einen schnellen ARM C1-Ultra Kern mit bis zu 4,2 GHz, drei C1-Premium Kerne mit bis zu 3,5 GHz und vier kleine C1-Pro Kerne mit bis zu 2,7 GHz. Gemeinsam können die Kerne auf 16 MB L3-Cache und 10 MB SLC zurückgreifen. Speicher kann der Chip per LPDDR5X-10667 ansteuern.
