Im Labor konnten sich vor allem die Ausdauerwerte sehen lassen. Das CAT S60 erreichte eine Laufzeit von 7:40 Stunden im Displaybetrieb und starke Gesprächszeiten mit knapp 30 Stunden im GSM- und etwa neun Stunden im UMTS-Einsatz. Weniger gut fielen dagegen die Empfangsergebnisse für GSM und UMTS aus ... In der Summe ist das S60 ein Telefon für Spezialisten, die die Thermalkamera beruflich nutzen können.

Das CAT S60 ist für seine Zielgruppe ein tolles Smartphone. Wasserdicht, die Unterwasserkamera, die Wärmebildkamera und seine Sturzsicherheit bis 1,80 Meter passen in verschiedene Branchen oder zu Abenteurern, die ein robustes Telefon brauchen. Allen anderen wird es zu groß, zu klobig und technisch nicht schnell genug oder die Fotoqualität nicht hochauflösend genug sein.

Das Cat S60 ist ein solider Trümmer mit Nehmerqualitäten. Für die schnelle Suche nach Lecks in Wasserleitungen oder Wärmemessungen taugt es, auch kaputte Fensterdichtungen lassen sich prima aufspüren. Die Akkulaufzeit ist für ein Smartphone gut. Durch die enorme Größe und das Gewicht ist das S60 aber nur bedingt alltagstauglich.

Das Cat S60 wurde ja schon im Rahmen des Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona vorgestellt. Das Gerät erhielt einige Beachtung, da man hier eine Infrarot-Kamera mitgeliefert bekommt. Hinzu kommt, dass das Gerät mit seinem Design komplett für den Einsatz unter Bedingungen gebaut wurde, die viele normale Smartphones wohl nicht lange unbeschadet überleben würden.

All in all, the Cat S60 impressed us on a lot of levels. We loved its ruggedness and the ability to work under water. What made it a deal breaker was its steep price of Rs 64,999. This for the specs Caterpillar gives is just not justified, yes the phone has a thermal camera, but how many of us would use it on a regular basis. The Cat S60 seems to be the preferred choice for people who like Chandler Bing from the popular sitcom Friends and are a serial dropper. The rest have a lot of good choices, like the Apple iPhone 7 plus that has a larger screen and is water resistant too.

Modell: Das CAT S60 ist ein sehr robustes Nischen-Smartphone für Handelsreisende. Das wie ein Panzer gebaute Gerät kann dank eines verstärkten Druckgussrahmens Stürze von bis zu 1,8 m Höhe überleben und übertrifft Militär-Spezifikationen. Das einzigartige Design mit schwarzem Chassis umgeben von einem silberfarbenen Rahmen und der Kohlefaser-Abdeckung an der Rückseite enthält eine Bildsensor-Technologie. Oberhalb der Front-Bildschirms gibt es einen goldenen Schalter, welcher es dem Nutzer ermöglicht in den Lock-in-Modus zu wechseln, welcher das 2M Unterwasserrating auf 5M erhöht. Beim Bildschirm des CAT S60 handelt es sich um ein 4,7 Zoll großes AHVA-Panel mit guter Farbsättigung und Übersichtlichkeit, welches durch Corning Gorilla Glass 4 geschützt wird.

Das Android 6.0 Marshmallow Gerät ist mit zwei Cortex-A53 Quad-Core-Chips, von welchen einer mit 1,2 GHz und der andere mit 1,5 GHz taktet, 3 GB RAM, einer Adreno 405 GPU und 32 GB internen Speicher ausgestattet. Es bietet eine 13-MP-Kamera mit Autofokus an der Rückseite und eine sekundäre 5-MP-Frontkamera. Beide Kameras liefern eine hohe Bildqualität. Das Hauptmerkmal, welches das CAT S60 besonders macht, ist seine Thermografie-Fähigkeit dank einer FLIR Thermal Camera. Flir ist im Thermografie-Sektor gut bekannt, wobei Geräte dieser Firma in der Schwerindustrie und bei Militär-Operationen zum Einsatz kommen. Weiters bietet das CAT S60 A-GPS, FM-Radio, einen USB-Host, Bluetooth 4.1 und einen nicht-entfernbaren Lithium-Ionen-Akku mit einer Nennkapazität von 3800 mAh.

Qualcomm Adreno 405: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Dieses Display ist winzig. Man wird wohl sehr wenig am Bildschirm sehen und Mini-Auflösungen nutzen können.
