EN→DEThe Lenovo Legion 5, with everything that it offers and how it performs, feels like an easy recommendation to make for a first-time gaming laptop buyer. It has all the bells and whistles found in a 2021 gaming laptop, and it sweetens the deal with an excellent display, a great keyboard, and top-notch cooling. It’s also quite future-proof with upgradeable RAM and storage slots, and a vast array of I/O options makes it easy to pair it with a larger display and more storage and accessories. However, the core hardware, especially the discrete GPU, is what keeps this variant of the Legion 5 from impressing the hardcore gamers. The RTX 3050 Ti feels like an unfortunate bottleneck amidst a powerful Ryzen 7 CPU and 165Hz display. None of the latest games can take full advantage of it and output 160 FPS. So if that’s a concern, it’s better to spend a little more and get one of the higher variants with RTX 3060 or RTX 3070. Well, if you can’t spend more, then honestly, for the price, it’s hard to go wrong with this laptop. Although the RTX 3050 Ti GPU bottlenecks the performance of the powerful Ryzen 7 5800H processor, this is probably the most powerful CPU & GPU combo you’ll find in a gaming laptop at this price range. In addition to that, we also don’t often see a budget gaming laptop with such a great display. The 165Hz refresh rate makes it a class apart, and good color accuracy acts like a cherry on top for this gaming notebook. Overall, we think the Lenovo Legion 5 is a complete package, and therefore it is our most recommended gaming laptop under $1000 right now.

We also cannot guarantee until when they keep the price in this range, I notice pricing can be absolutely mad. For example, our guy here with its newest specs, higher GPU, newest CPU, is sold a few bucks less than last year’s model with the older CPU and Graphics. Insane! Our device here also has all of the power of a gaming machine while still looking like a laptop for professionals. It does not look gaudy like most of those gaming notebooks. So if you want to have a new up-to-date laptop that works great, looks great, consider this one. The other nice features are a bonus, this Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7 82JW0012US has it all.

At £999, the Ryzen 7 model we’ve tested here is great value, while the Ryzen 5 machine at £799 is an absolute steal. With the same GPU and vRAM, gaming performance will be very similar. Both those prices are listed as “£200 off”, but even with that added back on both models are still good value. If I had to sum up these AMD Advantage laptops in one word it would be “balanced”. They deliver reliable 1080p gaming even with demanding titles and have no significant weak spots. Most importantly, they trounce the RTX 3050-equipped competition, and that alone makes them our budget gaming laptop Best Buy award winners.

EN→DEIf you're a fan of AMD gear and want to make the most of its CPUs and GPUs working together, then the Advantage Edition of the Lenovo Legion 5 is going to stand out to you (without looking all too 'gamer' overall). At the time of writing you can pick up this review model for around £1,000 or $1,250. That's not bad at all for a gaming laptop that's capable of coping with the most demanding games out there. However, said gaming performance isn't going to break any records, while just about everything else – the screen, the speakers, the keyboard and trackpad experience – are perfectly fine but not a lot more than that. We'd say the Lenovo Legion 5 Advantage Edition gives you more bang for your buck than a lot of gaming laptops, and value for money is a high priority for most of us.

EN→DEStill, I think that mysterious performance dips in regular use -- probably the laptop throttles down to save battery -- and average battery life during gaming stops me from recommending the Legion 5i wholeheartedly. I like this laptop but I like it with caveats. So, here is my recommendation. Do consider the Legion 5i but only if you do not mind keeping it plugged in during your gaming stints, and the random hiccups it may throw at you. There are no perfect gaming laptops in this price range. The Legion 5i too is not perfect. But it is mighty good and gets the job done.

The laptop cools down on a table without any problems, but the cooling system needs to put a lot of effort into it, which creates a lot of noise. A cooling stand can help, but it would be better if the laptop could do a better job of it on its own. There’s also a lack of an SD card reader that could replace one or two USB connectors. On the other hand, the tested laptop is one of the most powerful among competitors in its price category, and therefore is the best option for gamers with a well-defined budget. Like the previous models in the Legion line, the Lenovo Legion 5 15IAH7H is a powerful laptop with an interesting design and the performance you need for gaming.

EN→DESo with all that said… I think Lenovo’s new Legion 5i and Legion Pro 5i are once again shaping up to be killer midrange gaming laptops. They both have a sleek, classy design, a gorgeous OLED display, a fantastic keyboard, and pretty great performance. And for NPR 274,999, I think the regular Legion 5i does make sense. Although I can’t help but think if the Legion Pro 5i is a little expensive for everything it offers. Especially since you can get something like Acer’s Predator Helios Neo 16 (2025) or Helios Neo 16S AI (2025) with an RTX 5070 Ti GPU at a more or less similar price.

Lenovo:
Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) wurde 1984 als chinesische Computerhandelsfirma gegründet. Ab 2004 war die Firma der größte Laptop-Hersteller Chinas und nach der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Neben Desktops und Notebooks stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server etc her und hat sich auf die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Unterhaltungselektronik, Personalcomputern, Software, Unternehmenslösungen und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen spezialisiert.
Im Jahr 2016 belegte das Unternehmen weltweit den ersten Platz bei den Computerverkäufen. Auch 2023 hatte es ihn noch inne bei ca 23% Weltmarktanteil. Wichtige Produktreihen sind Thinkpad, Legion und Ideapad.
2011 wurde die Mehrheit der Medion AG übernommen, einem europäischen Computer-Hardware-Hersteller. 2014 wurde Motorola Mobility gekauft, wodurch Lenovo einen Schub am Smartphone-Markt erreichte.
Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU: Mobile Gaming-Grafikkarte die wahrscheinlich auf den GA107 Chip basiert. Bietet 2560 Kerne und Taktraten von bis zu 1695 MHz bei 80 Watt. Es sind jedoch viele Varianten erhältlich, bis 35 Watt und nur 1035 MHz Boost.
AMD Radeon RX 6600M: Mobile Mittelklassegrafikkarte. Basiert auf die aktuelle Navi Architektur in 7nm und bietet 1.792 Kerne (28 CUs) und bei 50 - 100 Watt TDP.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU: High-End Notebook-Grafikkarte und zweit-schnellste Ampere Version für Notebooks zum Launch. Erhältlich in verschiedenen Versionen mit einem TGP von 80 - 125 Watt und unterschiedlichen Taktraten.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop: Mobile Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte der Blackwell Familie basierend auf den GB206 Chip mit 3328 Shadern und 8 GB GDDR7 Grafikspeicher (128 Bit).
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4GB Laptop GPU: Mobile Gaming-Grafikkarte die wahrscheinlich auf den GA107 Chip basiert. Bietet 2048 GPU Kerne und ist in verschiedenen TGP Varianten von 35 - 80 Watt erhältlich. Je nach Variante kann die Leistung deutlich variieren, da auch die Taktraten unterschiedlich ausfallen. Ältere Version mit 4 GB VRAM.
High-End Grafikkarten welche auch neueste und anspruchsvolle 3D-Spiele in hohen Auflösungen und Detailstufen flüssig wiedergeben können. Durch den hohen Stromverbrauch, werden diese GPUs nur in großen und schweren Notebooks mit geringen Akkulaufzeiten angeboten.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop: Eine kommende Grafikkarte der Blackwell-Familie für Laptops, die Team Green sehr wahrscheinlich auf der CES 2025 vorstellen wird. Wenn man bedenkt, dass der 4070 Laptop über 4.608 Unified Shader (CUDA Kerne) verfügt, wird die 5070 höchstwahrscheinlich weit über 5.000 Shader haben.

AMD Cezanne (Zen 3, Ryzen 5000):
R7 5800H: Mobile APU mit acht Zen 3 basierten Kernen welche mit 3,2 bis 4,4 GHz takten. Integriert eine Vega Grafikkarte mit 8 CUs und bis zu 2GHz Taktfrequenz.
R5 5600H: Mobile APU mit sechs Zen 3 basierten Kernen, welche mit 3,3 bis 4,2 GHz takten und auf 16 MB Level 3 Cache zugreifen können. Die integrierte Vega 7 taktet mit bis zu 1800 MHz.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-11800H: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Gaming Notebooks und mobile Workstations. Integriert unter anderem acht CPU-Kerne mit 2,3 - 4.6 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine UHD Graphics Grafikeinheit (350 - 1450 MHz) und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm SuperFin).
Intel Alder Lake-S:
i7-12700H: Auf der Alder-Lake-Architektur basierender High-End Mobilprozessor. Bietet 6 Performance-Kerne und 8 Effizienzkerne und kann 20 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten. Der maximale Turbo-Takt der P-Kerne beträgt 4,7 GHz. Weiters unterstützt die CPU vPro Essentials.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i5-12500H: Auf der Alder-Lake-Architektur basierender High-End Mobilprozessor. Bietet 4 Performance-Kerne und 8 Effizienzkerne und kann 16 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten. Der maximale Turbo-Takt der P-Kerne beträgt 4,5 GHz.
AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c): Refresh of the Phoenix series with higher clocks on the AI engine. Includes Ryzen 8000 and Ryzen 200 parts.
R7 260: High-End-Mobil-8-Kern Prozessor mit 16 Threads. Taktet mit maximal 5,1 GHz auf einem Kern und kann dadurch in Single- und auch Multi-Thread-Anwendungen überzeugen. Nutzt die Zen 4 Architektur und hat einen konfigurierbaren TDP von 35-54 Watt. Technisch identisch zum Ryzen 7 8845HS.

Ryzen AI 7 350: Eine relativ leistungsstarke Krackan Point Familie Prozessor, die Anfang 2025 vorgestellt wurde. Die APU integriert 8 CPU-Kernen (4 Zen 5-Kerne mit bis zu 5 GHz und 4 Zen 5c-Kerne mit bis zu 3,5 GHz).

Ultra 7 255HX: Mobile High-End CPU für Gaming Notebooks basierend auf die Arrow Lake Architektur. Bietet 20 Kerne bestehend aus 8 schnellen Performance Kernen mit bis zu 5,2 GHz und 12 kleineren Effizienzkernen mit bis zu 4,5 GHz Taktung. Die CPU kann auf 30 MB L2-Cache und 36 MB L3-Cache zugreifen und ist spezifiziert mit einem TDP von 55 Watt. Der SoC integriert eine kleine dedizierte NPU namens AI Boost mit 13 TOPS (Int8) und unterstützt optional vPro Essentials.
