Aber das nur gut 30 Euro teurere Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus kann fast alles besser. Die Kamera beherrscht zusätzlich 4K-Aufnahmen, das Display löst sichtbar schärfer auf, der Prozessor ist spürbar schneller und es ist optional mit mehr Speicher verfügbar.

Xiaomi will undoubtedly sell massive numbers of the Redmi 5, and you do get a lot of bang for your buck. As usual, the Chinese giant continues to offer specifications that will be very hard for competitors to match. The processor is powerful enough to last for several years, and you get the 18:9 screen that most people want in their next phones. It's likely that the middle variant, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, will be the most popular. This is the one we used for our review, and we would spend the extra Rs. 1,000 over the base model because 2GB of RAM doesn't seem like much for even low-end Android phones these days. Unfortunately, we can't yet say for sure how different the experience would be with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM.

Modell: Der chinesische Hersteller Xiaomi ist schon lange dafür bekannt, die Ordnung am Smartphone-Markt mit leistungsstarken, gut gestalteten und dennoch preisgünstigen Phones zu stören. Allerdings hat er sich bis vor kurzem ausschließlich auf den Ost-Markt konzentriert. Im Jahre 2017 hat die Firma jedoch bestätigt, dass sie den Fußstapfen seine asiatischen Konkurrenten beispielsweise Huawei und Asus folgen werden und nach Westen expandieren. Das unlängst auf den Markt gebrachte Redmi 5 ist ein solider Kandidat für eine Markteinführung außerhalb von China. Das Redmi 5 will auf den neuen Trend aufspringen und mit seinem riesigen, die Vorderseite ausfüllenden Bildschirm zum Budget-Preis ein Geld machen. Sein 5,7 Zoll großer IPS-Bildschirm füllt die Vorderseite des Phone mit schmalen Rahmen oben und unten. Damit erhält das Phone ein größeres Profil, das sich einfach halten und bedienen lässt. Oberhalb des Bildschirms befinden sich eine 5-MP-Selfie-Kamera, Umgebungslichtsensoren und der Lautsprecher. Die Farboptionen sind schwarz, gold, hellblau und rose-gold. Das metallische Aussehen ist ziemlich attraktiv. Leider gibt es keinen Wasser- oder Staubschutz. Allerdings liefert Xiaomi freundlicherweise eine dünne Silikon-Hülle mit. Der 2.5D-Gorilla-Glass-Bildschirm befindet sich auf einem Rahmen, der teils auf Aluminium und teils aus Kunststoff ist. Die abgerundeten Kante sind auch aus Kunststoff und die Kunststoffbereiche an der Rückseite sorgen dafür, dass die Antenne funktioniert. Die Rückseite des Phones ist großteils aus Metall und beherbergt die 12-MP-Kamera, den LED-Blitz, einen Fingerabdruckleser und das ‘Mi’-Logo. An der rechten Seite des Gerätes befinden sich der Stromschalter und die Lautstärkeregler, während der Dual-Nano-SIM-Schacht an der linken Seite positioniert ist.

Das Phone wird durch Qualcomms Snapdragon 450 Octa-Core-Chipset angetrieben und ist abhängig vom gewählten Modell mit 2 GB oder 3 GB RAM ausgestattet. Obwohl ein Mittelklasse-Chip verwendet wird, ist die Leistung des Phones ausgezeichnet. Dazu mag der 720p-Bildschirm beitragen, da die Hardware damit weniger Pixels berechnen muss. An der Oberseite des Gerätes befindet sich ein IR-Blaster, mit welchem das Redmi 5 bestimmte elektronische Geräte wie Fernseher steuern kann, sowie die 3,5-mm-Kopfhörerbuchse. An der gegenüberliegenden Seite gibt es einen einzelnen Lautsprecher und einen MicroUSB-Port für Laden und Datenübertragung. Seltsamerweise hat sich Xiaomi gegen die Verwendung des fortschrittlicheren USB-C-Standards entschieden. Anderes als andere chinesische Chinese OEMs verwendet Xiaomi bei seinen Android-Phones eine ziemlich extreme Benutzeroberfläche. In der Vergangenheit wurde MIUI mit iOS verglichen. Sie zielt darauf ab die Flexibilität und Konfigurierbarkeit von Googles Betriebssystem mit dem raffinierten und einheitlichen Design von Apples Software zu kombinieren. MIUI 9 ist die letzte Verfeinerung dieser Benutzerschnittstelle und am Redmi 5 vorinstalliert. Allerdings basiert MIUI 9 weiterhin auf Android Nougat und es gibt keine Information, ab wann ein auf Android Oreo verfügbares Update auf MIUI 10 verfügbar sein wird. Kurzum, das Redmi gehört von jeher zu den beliebtesten Serien von Xiaomi. In der Tat handelt es sich um einer der meist gekauften Android-Serien und das Redmi 5 wird diese Führung ziemlich sicher behalten.
