The pricing is not what you would call competitive and as usual spec for spec the MacBook Pros don't hold up the competition. It's not terribly good value for money, especially when you consider that Apple short changes you for things like an extra USB port or providing something like the Apple Remote in the package. You would also need to get separate adaptors for things such aVGAorHDMI out, something that most notebooks these days have on-board. Then there are also otherthings such as support for Blu-ray drives or having bigger hard drives on board. 250GB hard drive on a notebook costing more than Rs. 1 lakh is just being miserly.

A Blu-ray drive and HDMI port on the machine itself wouldn't hurt either, but something tells us we won't see any of these. Dropping down within the 15-inch range you get a slightly slower processor, while dropping down to the 13-inch models you’re only offered dual-core processors - a shame. So should you rush out and upgrade? For now we would hold off unless you have to, meaning this might be “one to skip”. It’s not that it's a bad system, far from it, in fact it’s very good. It’s just if you’re already rocking a MacBook Pro that is 2009 or later you are unlikely to benefit from the improvements at this time as much as you would want to justify the outlay. Thunderbolt is ready, but with no devices on the market, it's not ready for the primetime yet and the speed boosts are good but 2x isn’t much to write home about. If you’re new to the MacBook Pro fold, however, this will make an excellent power house of a machine allowing you to get your work and play done double quick.

By comparison, a Dell XPS 15 with the same processor, but 6GB of RAM, a 7,200-rpm 750GB hard drive, Nvidia GeForce GT540M graphics (and 2GB of video memory), a 1920 x 1080 screen, Blu-ray, a Skype-certified 2-MP webcam, and a nine-cell battery, costs about $700 less. Still, that system is much bulkier, weighs a pound more, and, even with the larger battery, doesn't last as long on a charge. As always, if you want the best, you have to pay for the best.

Apple: Apple Inc. ist seit 1976 ein Unternehmen mit Hauptsitz in den USA, das Computer und Unterhaltungselektronik sowie Betriebssysteme und Anwendungssoftware herstellt. Zu ihren Notebooks ist zu sagen, dass sie überwiegend im hochpreisigen Segment angesiedelt sind, ein eigenes Betriebssystem aufweisen, jedoch auch Windows auf den neueren Macbooks läuft. Die IDC-Studie 2007 führt Apple mit 5.7 Prozent Marktanteil auf Rang fünf aller PC-Hersteller weltweit.

Steve Jobs zur Entstehung des Namens "Apple": "Wir waren damals mit der Anmeldung unseres Unternehmensnamens drei Monate im Verzug, und ich drohte, das Unternehmen 'Apple Computer' zu nennen, falls bis fünf Uhr niemandem ein interessanterer Name einfällt. Ich hoffte, so die Kreativität anzuheizen. Aber der Name blieb. Und deshalb heißen wir heute 'Apple'.“

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT: Nachfolger der 8600M GT und durch 65nm Prozess deutlich höhere Taktraten (und dadurch mehr Performance) bei gleichem Stromverbrauch. Dadurch sollte die Leistung einer 8700M GT erreicht werden können (bei Verwendung von GDDR3). Verbesserte Videofunktionen (VP3), HybridPower und Hybrid SLI Unterstützung.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: Die GeForce GT 330M ist die Nachfolgerkarte der GT 230M und technisch eine etwas höher getaktete GT 240M (und dadurch minimal schneller).

AMD Radeon HD 6490M: Einsteiger-Mittelklasse Grafikkarte mit Codenamen Seymore XT und Support für schnellen GDDR5 Grafikspeicher. Kerntakt 700-750MHz mit GDDR5 und 800 MHz mit DDR3. Trotzdem sollte die DDR3 Version langsamer sein.

Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

AMD Radeon HD 6750M: Dem Codenamen zu urteilen eine 6650M mit GDDR5 Speicher und dadurch ebenfalls mit von UVD3 und Eyefinity+.

AMD Radeon HD 6770M: Schnellste Karte der 6600M/6700M Serie mit GDDR5 Unterstützung, UVD3, Eyefinity+ und Nachfolger der HD 5770.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

P8400: Der P8400 ist ein Mittelklasse-Dual-Core Prozessor der Core 2 Duo Reihe. Durch den TDP von 25W eignet sich die CPU auch für kleinere Notebooks. Für ambitionierte Spieler könnte die Leistung jedoch etwas zu gering ausfallen.
