Das Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook war eines der ersten Ultrabooks am Markt. Ultrabooks wurden von Intel vorgestellt, jedoch nicht stark beworben. Als eines der ersten Ultrabooks, war ein Macbook-ähnliches Aussehen, alles was es zu bieten hatte. Für das Aspire S3 war dies nicht vorteilhaft, umso weniger als es nicht so dünn wirkte wie das Macbook Air. Optional kann das Aspire S3 auch mit einer mechanischen Festplatte ausgestattet werden, womit im Vergleich zu Solid-State-Drive Lösungen in Konkurrenzprodukten die Leistung niedriger ausfällt.
Zudem ist der Preis ungerechtfertigt hoch. Das Asus Zenbook und das Dell XPS 14 kosten zwar etwa gleich viel, haben aber viel mehr zu bieten. Außerdem fühlt sich das Plastik am Ultrabook weniger wertig an als das Alu am Zenbook oder die Kohlefaser am XPS 13. Aufgrund des fehlenden USB-3.0-Ports positioniert es sich hinter den meisten aktuellen Ultrabooks.
Eines der ersten Ultrabooks zu sein, hat sicherlich Nachteile. Es ist allerdings auch nicht schlecht. Der Bildschirm des Aspire S3 kann weit weiter geöffnet werden als bei anderen Ultrabooks bis jetzt. Es sieht dem MacBook Pro sehr ähnlich, ist aber viel leichter und bootet wie Ultrabooks ausgezeichnet schnell. Von Sleep kann es in weniger als 2 Sekunden aktiviert werden.

I’ve also had some hands on time at a local store with a Samsung Series 9, so that covers much of the ultrabook market right now. We’re impressed with its performance, build quality and screen, while it also scores points in the looks and usability categories. Only connectivity, audio and battery life cause any serious concern, while missing features like keyboard backlighting detract from the premium feel. On one hand, it’s a good all-rounder in an amazingly slim, lightweight package. On the other hand, the keyboard will take some getting used to, the trackpad is awkward and the fan noise could drive your office colleagues nuts, however, Acer tells me that the review S3 was from a pre-production batch and what's on sale now should be cured of these ills. Yet for carrying around and flipping open here and there whenever needed, the Acer Aspire S3 is just the job. Oh, and if you want to shave £200 off the price, there's always Acer's Intel 1.6GHz Core i5-2467M model to consider.

There's the metallic look, the sunken keyboard, the sparse port array, the - a first time for a Windows machine? - large touchpad placed centrally in the wrist rest area, not aligned to the positioning of the spacebar. There's the dark, plastic hinge cover that provides a window for the machine's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios.

But sensibly Acer hasn’t gone head-to-head on all fronts. In ditching the expensive unibody construction, the manufacturer has been able to use its usual strategy of undercutting the competition. Overall, the Asipre S3 is a good machine, however, it does not feel like a new category of a laptop. Yes, it it quite slim and wakes up and connects to your Wi-Fi fast along with offering a decent battery life and decent performance- but that is certainly not something unheard of. With the price on this particular setup being a bit more than the standard build, you’ll need to think about what you’re planning on using the machine for – if it’s home use for the internet and simple games exclusively, you’ll want the more basic Core i5 build. If you’re attempting to run some more impressive games and maybe a bit of the ol’ video processing, this i7 build is the one you want. Acer Aspire S3-392G
Das Acer Aspire S3-392G ist ein weiteres Ultrabook der S3-Produktlinie für Allround-Nutzer, die mehr machen wollen als nur Internet-Surfen. Mit einem 13,3-Zoll Bildschirm mit einer 1920 x 1080 Full-HD-Auflösung ist es schön Videos anzusehen und der IPS-Bildschirm sorgt für gute Blickwinkel und scharfe Farben.
Der Gerät beherbergt einen Intel i5-Prozessor mit 1,6 GHz Basistakt und einem maximalen Turbo-Takt von 2,6 GHz. Es handelt sich um einen soliden, energie-effizienten Prozessor, der die meisten Anwendungen mit Leichtigkeit ausführen kann. Zudem ist es mit 2 GB integriertem RAM und einem entfernbaren 4 GB-Modul ausgestattet. 6 GB RAM sind sicherlich für alle Ihre Multitasking-Anforderungen ausreichend.
Das Highlight ist die Nvidia GeForce GT 735M. Während die integrierte Intel HD 4400 Graphics für Standard-Anwendungen verwendet wird, kann die Nvidia-Karte anspruchsvollere Anwendungen wie Spiele ausführen und man kann sich eine flüssigere Leistung beim Spielen neuerer Games erwarten.
Der Nachteil ist die 500 GB HDD, die das Potential gewaltig verringert. 2 USB-3.0-Slots und eine Akkulaufzeit von ungefähr 6-8 Stunden sind ziemlich mittelklassig verglichen mit anderen Ultrabooks. Das Acer ist eine solide Wahl für alle, die eine eigenständige Grafikkarte suchen, doch für den Preis wäre es besser gewesen eine SSD oder einen SSD-Cache für schnellere Ladezeiten zu haben.

Schlank, schnell, spielefähig. Im Jahre 2011 hat Acer mit dem Aspire S3-951 das erste Ultrabook überhaupt auf den Markt gebracht. Mittlerweile sind drei Jahre vergangen und uns liegt mit dem Aspire S3-392G der Nach-Nachfolger vor. Das Acer Aspire S3-392G-5420 gehört zur Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook Serie und ist eines der ersten am Markt verfügbaren Ultrabooks. Es sieht dem Macbook Air sehr ähnlich, ist jedoch zweifellos dicker. Sogar das glänzende hellgraue Gehäuse wurde von MacBooks kopiert und es ist mit Aluminium-Legierung ummantelt. Sein Intel Core i5 4300U Dual-Core-Prozessor taktet mit bis zu 2,6 GHz und integriert einen Intel HD Graphics 4400 Grafikchip. Die Grafikkarte reicht für Gelegenheitsspieler und niedrigere Einstellungen und Auflösungen in moderneren Spielen.
Mit einem Gewicht von 1,65 kg ist das Acer bemerkenswert leicht für seine Spezifikation. Der 13,3-Zoll Bildschirm hat eine Auflösung von 1920 x 1080 Pixel und bietet IPS-Technologie. Das Aspire S3 verfügt über 6 GB RAM und eine 500 GB Festplatte. Weiters ist es mit zwei USB-3.0-Ports, einem USB-2.0-Port, einem HDMI-Port, einer Kombi-Audio-Buchse, einen Stromadapter und einen Slot für SD-Karten ausgestattet.
Die schwarz-weiße Tastatur fühlt sich teuer an und ist für das Arbeiten bei schlechtem Licht in der Nacht nützlich. Die Tastatur könnte etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig sein, weil einige Funktionstasten ungewöhnlich platziert sind. Der Akku hält laut Acer zirka 5 Stunden Video-Wiedergabe durch.

Acer: 1976 wurde das Unternehmen unter dem Namen Multitech in Taiwan gegründet und 1987 in Acer unbenannt bzw. Acer Group. Zur Produktpalette gehören beispielsweise Laptops, Tablets, Smartphones, Desktops, Monitore, Fernseher und Computer-Peripheriegeräte. Der Konzern ist seit 2007 mit Gateway Inc. und Packard Bell zusammengeschlossen, die ebenfalls eigene Laptop-Produktlinien vermarkten.
Acer Computer sind für verschiedene Zwecke geeignet, z. B. Ultrabooks für den mobilen Einsatz, Gaming-Laptops für Gamer, preisgünstige Optionen für alltägliche Aufgaben und 2-in-1-Convertible-Laptops für Vielseitigkeit. Das Produktportfolio von Acer umfasst auch Tablets, die tragbare Computer- und Multimediafunktionen bieten.
Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): In den Celeron und Pentium Sandy Bridge (2. Generation Core) integrierte Prozessorgrafik. Technisch eine Intel HD Graphics 2000 (in Desktop CPUs) mit geringeren Taktraten. Die namensgleiche HD Graphics der Arrandale Prozessoren ist nicht baugleich!
Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).
Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: In Ivy Bridge Prozessoren (3. Generation Core) integrierte Grafikkarte in höchster Ausbaustufe. Je nach Prozessor (ULV bis Desktop Quad-Core) unterschiedlich getaktet.
Intel HD Graphics 4400: In den Haswell-Prozessoren (4. Generation Core) integrierte Grafikkarte in mittlerer Ausbaustufe (GT2). Je nach Prozessor unterschiedlich getaktet.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M: Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte der GeForce-GT-700M-Baureihe. Basiert auf der Kepler-Architektur (GK208) und wird von TSMC in einem 28-nm-Prozess gefertigt.

74.19%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Locker drei Viertel der Modelle werden besser beurteilt. Das ist eher keine Kaufempfehlung.
