Mit seinen Smartphones ist Honor auch in Europa bereits gut vertreten. Die Marke aus dem Hause Huawei hat seit neuestem aber auch ein Notebook im Sortiment, das allerdings vorerst nur in Asien angeboten wird. Wir haben uns das Magicbook von Honor gleich in zwei Varianten für einen Test geholt und lassen Intel gegen AMD antreten.

The screen is dimmer and the battery is smaller here than it was on the HONOR MagicBook too. They also increased the price by a rather significant RM200 to RM2499, which makes it much less than the original HONOR MagicBook. I do find it an absolutely unnecessary refresh especially as they kept the same chipset from the HONOR MagicBook, when the AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors are already widely available.

The Honor MagicBook 14 costs a lot less than most similarly equipped Windows and macOS rivals, making it an absolute steal. It’s slim, light, handsome and very pleasant to use. It also offers plenty of power. Honor hasn’t cut any significant corners to reach its attractive price, making this an extremely tempting proposition for anyone who’s looking for a well-built Windows laptop on a tight budget.

The MagicBook has a better screen hinge, larger battery, faster and larger SSD – but has a slightly smaller screen and does not have a 2.5-inch HDD drive. In most cases, I’ll recommend the MagicBook. If you need a terabyte of storage, then get the Huawei MateBook D 15 instead.

It feels sturdy and premium, just as it did before, and the design feels classic, yet it has a bit of flair thanks to the blue chamfered edges, which give it a but more personality. On the other hand, keeping the webcam under the keyboard is a terrible decision, and it's just not a good way to use a camera. You're very limited in how you can position yourself in the frame, and it's especially problematic when so many people are working from home.

The Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good budget large-screen Windows laptop. It looks great, handles basic PC tasks with aplomb and is superior to the very similar-looking Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020). The Huawei offers faster disk speeds and a marginally better graphical performance but the Honor’s display boasts better colour space coverage and greater colour accuracy, meaning it’s better suited for creative work. Battery life and CPU performance are slightly higher on the Honor as well. The Honor MagicBook 15 is edged out slightly by the Acer Swift 3 in terms of overall performance and portability, but if you value screen acreage over speed then the Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good-value option. If you’re looking for a large-screened 15in laptop for not very much money, they don’t get much better than this.

However, it inherits features from its predecessors, such as the 100% sRGB colour gamut, narrow bezels, and ultracompact all-metal body. So, is the HONOR MagicBook View 14 worth it? Well, if you’re looking for a laptop of this caliber, then yes, very much so. HONOR really did an excellent job with the design here, while the display is good enough. It is also touch-sensitive, not to mention that it supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The camera has been much-improved, and it’s great for meetings, while the fingerprint scanner works great. The sound is good enough, while this is a powerful laptop, with powerful internals. On top of everything, even the keyboard is quite good, and so on. The HONOR MagicBook View 14 is an excellent Windows 11 laptop, which steers clear of major flaws. HONOR basically fixed all of the complaints I had for the MagicBook 14. I highly recommend it.

The screen is a pleasure to work with, it is fast enough for most tasks, even graphics intensive one, the touchpad is huge, the webcam is one of the best around and so is the audio subsystem. Only the slightly disappointing battery life and the placement of the Thunderbolt 4 ports are worth mentioning in the “to be improved” section.

Much like its Honor and Huawei forebears, the MagicBook 16 is a solid and competent laptop that does little wrong. It has power enough to quickly chew through the majority of everyday computing tasks and, although the integrated GPU is rather feeble, it isn’t notably worse at gaming than any other laptop running Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics. In the end, the only reason the MagicBook 16 doesn’t get five stars is that the battery life is mediocre. If, however, you’re purchasing a laptop for mainly home use that won’t see much in the way of use on the road, then this is a very good option.

80% Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) review: A powerful, big-screen bargain

Much like its Honor and Huawei forebears, the MagicBook 16 is a solid and competent laptop that does little wrong. It has power enough to quickly chew through the majority of everyday computing tasks and, although the integrated GPU is rather feeble, it isn’t notably worse at gaming than any other laptop running Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics. In the end, the only reason the MagicBook 16 doesn’t get five stars is that the battery life is mediocre. If, however, you’re purchasing a laptop for mainly home use that won’t see much in the way of use on the road, then this is a very good option.

Kommentar

Honor: 2014 gründete Huawei die Tochtermarke Honor unter der bestimmte Smartphone-Linien vertrieben werden. Gelegentlich werden die Produkte auch unter der Bezeichnung Huawei Honor geführt.

Der Marktanteil von Honor-Produkten ist überschaubar, aber es gibt einige Testberichte für Honor Smartphones mit durchschnittliche Bewertungen (2016).

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA GeForce MX150: Pascal GP108 basierende Notebook-Grafikkarte und mobile Version der GT 1030. Bietet 384 Shader und meist 2 GB GDDR5 Grafikspeicher.

AMD Vega 8: Integrierte Grafikkarte in the Ryzen APUs basierend auf der Vega Architektur mit 8 CUs (= 512 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 1100 MHz.

AMD Vega 6: Integrierte Grafikkarte in the Ryzen APUs basierend auf der Vega Architektur mit 6 CUs (= 384 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 1.500 MHz.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Tiger-Lake G7 SoCs) der Gen. 12 Architektur mit 96 EUs.

Intel Iris Xe G7 80EUs: Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Tiger-Lake G4 SoCs) der Gen. 12 Architektur mit 80 EUs. Z.B. in Tiger Lake i5 CPUs verbaute iGPU.

AMD Vega 7: Integrierte Grafikkarte in the Ryzen APUs basierend auf der Vega Architektur mit 7 CUs (= 448 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 1600 MHz.

i5-8250U: Auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 1,6 - 3,4 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik (14nm+) gefertigt.

i5-8550U: Auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 1,8 - 4 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit (300 - 1.100 MHz) und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik (14nm+) gefertigt.

AMD Raven Ridge (Ryzen 2000 APU):

R5 2500U: Mobile APU mit vier Zen basierten Kernen die von 2 - 3,6 GHz takten. Der TDP ist einstellbar zwischen 12 - 25 Watt, wobei 15 Watt Standard sind.

AMD Picasso (Ryzen 3000 APU):

R5 3500U: Mobile APU mit vier Zen+ basierten Kernen welche mit 2,1 bis 3,7 GHz takten.

AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):

R5 4500U: Mobile APU mit sechs Zen 2 basierten Kernen welche mit 2,3 bis 4 GHz takten (ohne SMT). Integriert eine Vega 6 Grafikkarte mit 6 CUs bei maximal 1500 MHz.

Intel Tiger Lake:

i7-1165G7: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 2,8 - 4,7 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine starke Iris Xe G7 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm+). 

i5-1135G7: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 2,4 - 4,2 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine starke G7 Grafikeinheit mit 80 Eus und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm+). 

i5-11320H: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Gaming-Notebooks und Workstations. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 2.5 - 3,2 Basistakt (28 - 35W TDP) und 4,5 GHz Boost, HyperThreading sowie eine starke G7 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm SuperFin). 

i7-11390H: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 2,9 - 5 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine starke G7 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm+). 

AMD Lucienne (Zen 2, Ryzen 5000):

R5 5500U: Mobile APU mit sechs Zen 2 basierten Kernen welche mit 2,1bis 4 GHz takten. Integriert eine Vega Grafikkarte mit 7 CUs und maximal 1800 MHz. Im Vergleich zum schnelleren R5 5600U, basiert der Prozessor noch auf die alte Zen 2 und nicht Zen 3 und bietet weniger L3-Cache und um 100 MHz geringere Taktraten.

AMD Cezanne (Zen 3, Ryzen 5000):

R5 5600H: Mobile APU mit sechs Zen 3 basierten Kernen, welche mit 3,3 bis 4,2 GHz takten und auf 16 MB Level 3 Cache zugreifen können. Die integrierte Vega 7 taktet mit bis zu 1800 MHz.

14.00:

14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.

Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können. 

Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.

In this weight range, there are particularly light laptops, convertibles and subnotebooks that are trimmed for good portability.

82.85%: Diese Bewertung ist leicht überdurchschnittlich, es gibt etwas mehr Geräte mit schlechteren Beurteilungen. Klare Kaufempfehlungen sehen aber anders aus.
