Die NVIDIA GeForce GT 625M ist eine DirectX 11 Grafikkarte der unteren Mittelklasse, welche im 3. Quartal 2012 vorgestellt wurde. Sie basiert auf den selben Chip wie die GeForce GT 620M, bietet jedoch höhere Taktraten. Die 620M gibt es basierend auf den GF117 Chip (28nm) und den älteren GF108 (40nm), beide Ableger der Fermi-Architektur. Die 28nm Version besitzt jedoch keine eigenen Monitorausgänge und kann daher nur in Verbindung mit Optimus genutzt werden.

Architektur

Beim GF117 handelt es sich um einen optimierten 28nm-Shrink des noch in 40nm gefertigten Vorgängers GF108 auf Basis der Fermi-Architektur. Dementsprechend besitzt der Chip 96 Shader-ALUs (inkl. Hot Clock), 16 TMUs sowie eine ROP-Partition (= 4 ROPs). Weitere Details zur Fermi-Architektur finden Sie auf der Seite der GT 435M. Laut Hersteller wurden verschiedene Überarbeitungen vorgenommen, um die GPU optimal auf den neuen Herstellungsprozess anzupassen und die Leistung/Watt zu maximieren. Die eigentlichen Rechenwerke (SM, Streaming-Multiprozessoren) hat man hingegen ohne größere Änderungen beibehalten. Als Besonderheit besitzt der GF117 keine eigenen Displayausgänge, was den Chip kleiner und effizienter macht, jedoch zwingend den Optimus-Betrieb in Kombination mit einer Prozessorgrafikkarte voraussetzt.

Leistung

Die 3D-Leistung der GeForce GT 625M ist abhängig von der Taktung des Chips unter Last (und dadurch von Notebook zu Notebook verschieden). Sie sollte jedoch unterhalb der GeForce GT 630M liegen und dadurch nur für Casual Gamer genügend Leistung bringen. Anspruchsvolle Spiele sollten nur in geringer Detailstufe oder ruckelig laufen.

Features

Die Features des GF117 dürften sich zu großen Teilen mit dem älteren GF108 decken. So können die Shader Cores (auch CUDA Cores genannt) durch die Schnittstellen CUDA, DirectCompute 2.1 und OpenCL auch für generelle Berechnungen (z.B. Video Transcoding) angesprochen werden. Über PhysX können auch Physikberechnungen auf die GPU verlagert werden, wofür der Chip in den meisten aktuellen Spielen jedoch zu langsam sein dürfte. 3D Vision ist beim GF117 nicht möglich.

Die NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M ist eine DirectX 11 Grafikkarte der unteren Mittelklasse, welche im 1. Quartal 2012 vorgestellt wurde. Sie basiert auf dem GF117 Chip (28nm Version) oder den älteren GF108 (40nm Version), beide Ableger der Fermi-Architektur. Die 28nm Version besitzt jedoch keine eigenen Monitorausgänge und kann daher nur in Verbindung mit Optimus genutzt werden. Es wird voraussichtlich verschiedene Versionen mit bis zu 620 MHz Kerntaktrate sowie einem 64 oder 128 Bit breiten DDR3-Speicherinterface geben.

Leistung

Die 3D-Leistung der GeForce GT 620M (128 Bit) entspricht in Verbindung mit dem nur minimal höheren Kerntakt recht genau der GT 525M der Vorgängergeneration. Jedoch können die Notebook-Hersteller bei genügend Kühlleistung auch höhere Taktraten vorgeben bzw. einen Turbo implementieren, der die Leistung über das Niveau einer GT 540M hebt. Aktuelle Spiele sind damit in mittleren Auflösungen und Detailstufen flüssig spielbar, besonders anspruchsvolle Titel wie Anno 2070 erfordern allerdings auch noch weiter abgesenkte Einstellungen. Von der Version mit nur 64 Bit breitem Speicherinterface ist eine deutlich geringere Leistungsfähigkeit zu erwarten.

Die 40nm Version sollte jedoch ziemlich der GT 525M entsprechen. Im Leerlauf kann die GPU mit Hilfe der Optimus-Technologie vollständig zugunsten eines IGP deaktiviert werden.
