Samsung's isn't as slick but is impressively svelte and has features not found on the Nexus 9. Now the Tab S is cheaper you can save money by going this way and installing the Google Now launcher if you don't like TouchWiz so it just nips the win here but both are great choices for an Android tablet.

There are two answers here. If you’re choosing between this and an iPad mini 2 then we’d still recommend the iPad. While the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4’s screen gives it an edge, the iPad’s screen is still very good and it comfortably wins for its better design, slicker software and superior tablet apps. The only alternative we’d consider is the LG G Pad 8.3. It’s not as fast as the Samsung and doesn’t have an AMOLED screen, but it’s only £200 and a very good cheaper alternative. Those after the pure Google experience should consider waiting for the much-rumoured Nexus 8 tablet, too, but we’d be very surprised if it matches the quality of this Samsung AMOLED screen.

While the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4’s screen gives it an edge, the iPad’s screen is still very good and it comfortably wins for its better design, slicker software and superior tablet apps. The only alternative we’d consider is the LG G Pad 8.3. It’s not as fast as the Samsung and doesn’t have an AMOLED screen, but it’s only £200 and a very good cheaper alternative. Those after the pure Google experience should consider waiting for the much-rumoured Nexus 8 tablet, too, but we’d be very surprised if it matches the quality of this Samsung AMOLED screen.

We can’t give our final verdict until we get the Galaxy Tab 2 back to PC Advisor towers, and put it through its paces. However, based on our first impressions with the Tab S2 and previous knowledge of the original Tab S, we’re impressed. With regards to design, the Tab S2 wins – it’s incredibly thin and light, and the screen is gorgeous. However, at a discounted price, the original Tab S is also a bargain and could be a winner – we’ll have to wait on the pricing of the Tab S2 to be announced first!

Das Tab S2 hat momentan noch Android 5.0.2 installiert, wo doch schon 5.1.1 Gang und Gebe ist. Wir hoffen, dass Samsung da in nächster Zeit nachbessert. When used for simple notes and sketching, the S Pen is generally great. Our only major grips are around the difference in responsiveness of the S Pen in various apps, the lack of bass and that the touch-sensitive button that opens the app switcher is irritatingly easy to knock. But overall, the Galaxy Tab S3 is an excellent tablet that really looks the part. It's a worthy competitor to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, one of our best tablets.

After spending the past few weeks with Samsung’s latest tablet I have grown to using it more. Based on its portability, decent battery life and quick charging. Display is still some of the best out there but would love to see HDR supported by apps to really push its full potential. Optional keyboard is nice for doing work but can be crammed for some and also doesn’t magnetically close. Included S-Pen is a nice touch and awesome to use but wish it had a built-in slot or magnet for the Tab S3 . The Galaxy Tab S3 is realistically a great media consumption powerhouse and is great for viewing content. One plus over say the iPad Pro or even Pixel C is that the Tab S3 has expandable storage pushing it to 256GB. That’s a lot of movies. That $600 price tag is a bit hard to swallow though.

Its colorful and sharp display, coupled with loud audio, makes for satisfying multimedia consumption. It’s also a responsive machine, thanks to its Snapdragon 820 chipset, and lasts more than 11 hours on a charge. The new S Pen enables smooth drawing, thanks to its finer nib and improved pressure sensitivity. But the Tab S3 and its companion keyboard, which costs an extra $130, aren’t good enough for intensive typing and multitasking. If you can stomach the $600 price and don’t need to do serious work on the Tab S3, you’ll find it satisfying.

The high price of the S3 also puts it head-to-head with some excellent Windows offerings that have the advantage of running full desktop productivity software. However, if you aren’t budget-conscious and are set on Android, the stunning screen and integrated stylus functionality may be worth the extra money. Personally, I’m really torn. I rely heavily on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition), and would love to update it to something that ran a modern OS and had better performance. But it works okay, stores its S Pen internally, and is long since paid for. So shelling out $600+ to get a new version that isn’t perfect still seems like a stretch. For those ready to spring for the Tab S3, it’s expected to be available starting March 24th.
