Die Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 Compute Platform ist ein ARM basierter SoC für Windows-Notebooks. Sie wird im 8nm-Verfahren gefertigt und bietet 2 Cortex-A76-Kerne (Kryo 468 Gold), die Taktraten von bis zu 2,55 GHz erreichen. Hinzu kommen 6 energiesparende A55-Kerne (Kryo 468 Silver) mit Taktraten von vermutlich 1,8 GHz. Im Vergleich zur ersten Generation wurden die Taktraten leicht erhöht.

Als Grafikeinheit ist eine Adreno 618 integriert, die interne Displays mit 60 Hz und Auflösungen von bis zu 2.048 x 1.536 (QXGA, 4:3) oder 1.920 x 1.080 (FullHD, 16:9) ansteuern kann. Ein externer Bildschirm kann bei 60 Hz mit 2.560 x 1.440 (QHD, 16:9) Bildpunkten betrieben werden.

Arbeitsspeicher lässt sich bis zu LPDDR4x-4266 über 2x 16 bit ansprechen, für den internen Speicher werden maximal eMMC 5.1 und UFS 2.1 unterstützt. Ein Qualcomm Spectra 255 ISP (Image Signal Processor) unterstützt Kamerasensoren von bis zu 16 MP mit 30 fps (Dual) und bis zu 32 MP mit 30 fps (Single). Die Wiedergabe von Medieninhalten ist mit 4K und HDR10 möglich, wobei die Codecs H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC) und VP9 kompatibel sind. Audioinhalte lassen sich mit aptX und aptX HD übertragen. Das SoC ist außerdem mit einer Hexagon 692 Neural Process Unit (NPU) ausgestattet.

Drahtlose Datenverbindungen sind über LTE möglich und erreichen mit Cat. 12 im Download bis zu 600 MBit/s und Cat. 13 im Upload bis zu 150 MBit/s. Hinzu kommen WLAN mit Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) und Bluetooth 5.1. Für Ortungsaufgaben stehen Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS und SBAS bereit.

Qualcomms Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 eignet sich vor allem für dünne und schlanke Notebooks mit passiver Kühlung (ohne Lüfter).

Intel Pentium Silver N5000

Der Intel Pentium Silver N5000 ist ein Ende 2017 vorgestellter Quad-Core-SoC, der hauptsächlich in preiswerten Notebooks verbaut wird. Er taktet mit 1,1 bis 2,7 GHz (Einzelkern Burst, Mehrkern Burst 2,6 GHz) und gehört der Gemini-Lake-Plattform an. Die Fertigung erfolgt wie beim Vorgänger Apollo Lake in einem 14-Nanometer-Prozesses mit FinFETs. Neben den vier CPU-Kernen integriert der Chip auch eine DirectX-12-fähige Grafikeinheit sowie einen DDR4/LPDDR4-Speichercontroller (Dual-Channel, 2.400 MHz). Der SoC kann nicht ausgetauscht werden, da er direkt mit dem Mainboard verlötet wird (BGA Package).

Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger Pentium N4200, bietet der N5000 leicht verbesserte CPU Kerne mit 200 MHz höherem Boost Takt, ein kleineres Package, neuere Displayanschlüsse und ein teilweise integriertes WLAN Modul (Wireless-AC9560 mit Companion Module).

Architektur

Die Prozessor-Architektur der Gemini Lake SoCs wurde im Vergleich zum Vorgänger leicht weiterentwickelt. Intel nennt sie nun Goldmont Plus Kerne und verdoppelt den Level 2 Cache von 2 auf 4 MB. Trotzdem sollte die Pro-MHz-Leistung noch deutlich hinter den aktuellen Kaby-Lake Prozessoren bleiben.

Performance

Die CPU-Leistung des Pentium N5000 mit 4 CPU-Kernen und einer Taktrate von 1,1 bis 2,7 GHz dürfte stark vom Kühlsystem abhängen. Wenn der Boost Takt gehalten werden kann, sollte der N5000 einige Prozent schneller rechnen als der Vorgänger Pentium N4200. Trotzdem gehört die CPU in das Low-End Segment. Der Core m3-7Y30 bietet eine deutlich höhere Einzelkernperformance und kann auch im Mehrkernbetrieb (trotz seiner 2 Kerne) überzeugen. Der N5000 bewältigt jedoch problemlos die meisten Alltagsanwendungen (Office, Browsing) und ist auch für moderates Multitasking geeignet.

Grafik

Die integrierte UHD Graphics 605 unterscheidet sich nur durch die verbesserten Displayanschlüsse von der HD Graphics 505.

Weiterhin integriert der Chip eine fortschrittliche Videoeinheit, die auch die hardwarebeschleunigte Wiedergabe von VP9- und H.265-Material (8 Bit Farbtiefe) beherrscht.

Leistungsaufnahme

Der gesamte SoC wird von Intel wie der Vorgänger mit einer TDP von 6 Watt spezifiziert (SDP 4,8 Watt - Scenario Design Power). Damit kann der Chip prinzipiell rein passiv gekühlt werden, jedoch sind auch Varianten mit Lüfter möglich.
