Fazit - Mini-ITX PC mit mobiler 120 W AMD Zen 5 CPU

Der Framework Desktop ist insofern einzigartig, als dass er im Mini-ITX-Format gebaut ist und von einer mobilen AMD Ryzen Zen 5 CPU mit 120 W angetrieben wird. Kleinere Mini-PCs mit demselben Prozessor sind zu ähnlichen Preisen erhältlich, darunter der GMK EVO-X2 oder BOSGAME M5, aber der Framework läuft leiser, kühler und überraschend effizient, während er gleichzeitig einfacher zu warten oder zu reparieren ist.

Es gibt aber auch noch Raum für Verbesserungen. Die Installation der Erweiterungskarten erfordert beispielsweise das Anheben oder Kippen des Geräts. Abwärme tritt an der Seitenwand aus, was die Positionierung am Arbeitsplatz beeinträchtigen kann. Es gibt keine Unterstützung für PCIe5-SSDs, aufrüstbaren Speicher, AMD PRO-CPUs oder ECC-RAM, aber das sind wahrscheinlich Einschränkungen des AMD Prozessor und nicht des Framework-Designs. Die Rückschläge sind ansonsten gering für eine solide Mini-PC/Desktop-Hybridlösung.

Der im Februar dieses Jahres vorgestellte ist der Framework Desktop das dritte große Produkt des Unternehmens und der erste Mini-ITX-Desktop in der Framework-Familie. Das System folgt der gleichen Designphilosophie wie die Laptop 13.5 oder Laptop 16 Serie, einschließlich der einfachen Reparaturfähigkeit und der Kompatibilität mit Erweiterungskarten als oberste Priorität.

Bei unserem Testgerät handelt es sich um eine mittlere Konfiguration mit AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 CPU, integrierter Radeon 8060S GPU und 64 GB RAM für ca. 1860 Euro/  1600 $. Niedrigere Optionen werden stattdessen mit dem Ryzen AI Max 385 und der Radeon 8050S ausgeliefert, während die höchste Option 128 GB gelöteten Arbeitsspeicher enthält.

Als Hybrid aus Mini-PC und Desktop konkurriert der Framework Desktop mit Modellen wie dem GMK EVO-X2, BOSGAME M5oder Beelink SER9 Pro, die alle die gleiche Prozessor Option wie der Framework Desktop bieten.

Gehäuse

Der Framework Desktop ist größer und schwerer als andere (Mini-)PCs mit dem exakt gleichen Prozessor wie der GMK EVO-X2, der BOSGAME M5 oder der Beelink GTR9 Pro. Natürlich ist diese Diskrepanz auf die überlegene Wartungsfreundlichkeit und das integrierte Netzteil des Framework-Designs zurückzuführen, das den Bedarf an externen Netzteilen negiert.

Anschlussausstattung

Bemerkenswert Ports sind die fünf Videoausgänge Ports auf der Rückseite sowie zwei USB-C 3.2 Gen. 2 Ports auf der Vorderseite. Die beiden vorderen Ports sind mit denselben Erweiterungskarten kompatibel, die bereits seit dem ursprünglichen Framework Laptop im Jahr 2021.

Wartung

Die Hauptplatine ist ohne Werkzeug zugänglich, da sich die obere und seitliche Abdeckung ohne großen Aufwand abnehmen lassen. Benutzer haben direkten Zugriff auf zwei M.2 2280 SSD-Steckplätze, ein herausnehmbares WLAN-Modul und einen freien PCIe x4-Erweiterungssteckplatz.

Nachhaltigkeit

Das System wird zu 30 Prozent aus PCC-Kunststoff und zu 50 Prozent aus PCC-Aluminium hergestellt (Post-Consumer Content - Recycling von bereits genutzten Materialien), während die Verpackung vollständig recycelbar und plastikfrei ist. Dennoch ist das Zubehör einzeln verpackt, einschließlich der Erweiterungskarten und Kacheln, was zu einer übermäßigen Verwendung von Karton führt, wenn Sie eine Handvoll Zubehör auf einmal bestellen.

Zubehör und Garantie

Die DIY Edition enthält das CPU-Lüfter-Montageset und einen Schraubendreher für die Installation, während die Erweiterungskarten, die Kacheln und der CPU-Lüfter alle optional sind. Die Kunststoffkacheln schmücken die Vorderseite des Systems in einem 3 x 7 Raster, das ausschließlich der Ästhetik und der persönlichen Gestaltung dient. Das Framework könnte in Zukunft vielleicht RGB-LED-Kacheln für eine zusätzliche Stufe der Individualisierung unterstützen.

Die einjährige beschränkte Herstellergarantie von Standard gilt bei Kauf in den USA, in Europa gilt wie üblich 2 Jahre Gewährleistung und freiwillige Garantie von 2-3 Jahren je nach Ort der Lieferung.

Testbedingungen

Wir haben Windows in den Modus Performance versetzt, bevor wir die folgenden Benchmarks durchgeführt haben. Der VRAM ist auf dem Framework-Desktop standardmäßig auf 8 GB eingestellt, aber wir haben ihn für unsere Tests auf 16 GB gesetzt.

Prozessor

Die rohe Multi-Thread-Leistung mit dem Ryzen AI Max+ 395 ist vergleichbar mit dem Core Ultra 9 275HX auch bekannt als eine von Intels derzeit schnellsten Arrow Lake-HX-Optionen.
