Die AMD Radeon HD 7690M ist eine gehobene DirectX 11 Mittelklasse Grafikkarte für Notebooks. Sie basiert auf den selben Chip wie die ältere Radeon HD 6750M, bietet jedoch einen um 100 MHz angehobenen Speichertakt (nach ersten Berichten). Daher wird die 7690M noch in 40nm gefertigt. Als Speicher kann schneller GDDR5 Grafikspeicher eingesetzt werden (aber mit nur 600 MHz Kerntakt) oder langsamerer DDR3 Speicher, aber dafür mit 725 MHz Kerntakt. Daher sollten beide Varianten ähnlich schnell sein. Die Radeon HD 7690M XT ist ebenfalls mit 725 MHz getaktet, bietet aber schnellen GDDR5 Grafikspeicher und ist daher schneller (umbenannte Radeon HD 6770M).

Zum Vergleich gibt es folgende Varianten mit dem Namen 7690M

AMD Radeon HD 7690M, 600 MHz Kerntakt, GDDR5 -> 6750M
AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT, 725 MHz Kerntakt, GDDR5 -> 6770M

Die 480 Stream Prozessoren basieren noch auf die alte 5D Architektur der HD 5000 Serie. Dadurch ist die Anzahl nicht direkt mit Nvidia GeForce Chips vergleichbar. Die Tessellation Leistung dürfte jedoch etwas verbessert worden sein (wie bei der Desktop 6800 Serie). Die Stream Prozessoren können mittels DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.1, DirectCompute 11 und OpenCL angesprochen werden und dadurch auch für generelle Berechnungen herangezogen werden.

Die 3D Leistung liegt im Durchschnitt unterhalb der NVDIA GeForce GT 555M  auf dem Niveau der baugleichen Radeon HD 6750M. Daher ist sie Anfang 2012 als schnelle Mittelklasse Grafikkarte einzuordnen. Aktuelle und anspruchsvolle Spiele wie Skyrim oder Anno 2070 in mittlerer Detailstufe und Auflösung flüssig spielbar. Ältere oder weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie Fifa 12 sind auch in Full HD bei maximaler Detailrate und Antialiasing spielbar.

Der UVD3 Video Decoder läuft jetzt unter der EyeSpeed Marketing Bezeichnung und kann als Neuheit zum UVD2 auch Multi-View Codec (MVC) und MPEG-4 part 2 (DivX, xVid) HD Videos dekodieren. Weiterhin unterstützt wird MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 und Adobe Flash Videos.

Mit der "AMD HD3D Technologie" bietet AMD nun auch 3D Support (Blu-Ray 3D und Spiele) für integrierte und externe Displays. Die Lösung dürfte jedoch noch nicht so ausgereift sein wie Nvidias 3D Vision Counterpart.

Wie auch bei der 5000er Serie, ist bei der 7600M Serie ein HD Audio Controller integriert welcher 7.1 Surround Sound über HDMI und DisplayPort unterstützt (inkl. TrueHD und DTS Master Audio).

Dank Eyefinity können theoretisch bis zu 5 Monitore gleichzeitig an die HD 7690M angeschlossen werden (wenn der Notebookhersteller ausreichend DisplayPort Ausgänge verbaut).

Der Stromverbrauch sollte in den Regionen des Mobility 6750 sein und dadurch eignet sich die Grafikkarte am ehesten für 15" Notebooks und größer.

Die AMD Radeon HD 7660G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics bezeichnet die asymmetrische Crossfire Kombination aus AMD Radeon HD 7660G Prozessorgrafikkarte im AMD Prozessor und der dedizierten AMD Radeon HD 7670M Grafikkarte.

Beide Grafikkarten arbeiten bei der Grafiklösung im CrossFire Verbund und berechnen dadurch im AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) Modus abwechselnd ein Bild. Deshalb leidet die Grafiklösung auch unter Microruckler bei Bildraten um die 30fps (unterschiedliche Abstände zwischen zwei Bildern führen zu Rucklern obwohl genug Bilder pro Sekunde berechnet werden). 

Die Performance der AMD Radeon HD 7660G und HD 7670M Dual Graphics ist stark abhängig von der Treiberunterstützung des eingesetzten Spiels oder der Applikation. Bei manchen Spielen kann die Leistung sogar 10-15% schlechter sein als mit einer Grafikkarte alleine. Bei guter Treiberunterstützung für das Spiel, kann man aber durchaus messbare Verbesserungen in der Framerate erkennen und sogar eine GT 640M übertreffen. Durch merkbares Ruckeln bei Frameraten um die 30fps (Microruckler) ist der Vorteil aber nur bei geringen Auflösungen / Einstellungen nutzbar.

Die Features wie PureVideo HD (UVD3) oder OpenCL Unterstützen entsprechen den beiden einzelnen Grafikkarten.

Da bei der Dual Graphics Grafiklösung unter Last beide Grafikkarten arbeiten, ist der Stromverbrauch deutlich höher.
