Marvell Armada PXA1908

Der Marvell Armada PXA1908 ist ein ARM-basierter Low-End-SoC für Tablets und Smartphones. Der Ende 2014 vorgestellte Chip integriert vier der 64-Bit-fähigen Cortex-A53-Kerne von ARM, die mit bis zu 1,2 GHz takten. Weiterhin verfügt der PXA1908 über eine Vivante GC7000UL GPU, einen LPDDR2/3-Speichercontroller sowie ein Funkmodem für HSPA+/WCDMA/LTE Cat. 4 (max. 150 Mbit/s).

Prozessor

Der Cortex-A53 kann als Nachfolger des beliebten Cortex-A7-Designs betrachtet werden. Neben der von 32 auf 64 Bit verbreiterten Prozessorarchitektur (ARMv8-ISA), die unter anderem die Adressierung von mehr als 4 GB Arbeitsspeicher erlaubt, wurden auch weitere Details wie die Sprungvorhersage optimiert. Insgesamt steigt die Pro-MHz-Leistung dadurch deutlich an und liegt sogar etwas oberhalb eines Cortex-A9-Kernes. Die vier Kerne des PXA1908 takten mit bis zu 1,2 GHz, sodass sich der SoC knapp hinter dem etwas höher taktenden Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 einordnet.

Grafiklösung

Als Grafikeinheit integriert der SoC eine Vivante GC7000UL GPU, die in etwa auf den Leistungsniveau einer Adreno 305 von Qualcomm liegt. Einfache Android-Spiele des Jahres 2014/2015 werden in niedrigen Auflösungen zumeist flüssig dargestellt.

Features

Zu den Multimedia-Fähigkeiten des SoCs zählt die Aufzeichnung und Wiedergabe von 1080p-Videos sowie der Support für Kameras mit bis zu 8 Megapixeln.

Leistungsaufnahme

Der PXA1908 wird in einem 28-Nanometer-Prozess gefertigt. Entsprechend der Leistungsdaten liegt die Leistungsaufnahme auf einem niedrigen bis mittleren Niveau, sodass der Chip auch in kleineren Smartphones oder Tablets verbaut werden kann.
