AMD Radeon RX 6600 Mid-Range-Desktop-GPU im Test

Sparsame 1080p GPU! Knapp zwei Monate nach dem Release der AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT schickt nun mit der AMD Radeon RX 6600 das nächste Modell ins Rennen. Die auf Energieeffizienz getrimmte Grafikkarte konnte im Test überzeugen. Wo jedoch die Schwachpunkte der neuen Mid-Range-Grafikkarte liegen, verraten wie Ihnen in diesem Review.

Nur knapp zwei Monate nach dem Erscheinen der AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT hat AMD nun mit der Radeon RX 6600 eine weiter Grafikkarte der Mittelklasse im Angebot. Beide Modelle basieren auf dem Navi 23 getauften Chip. Dennoch unterscheiden sich beiden in der Anzahl der aktivierten Shader, wie man der unten stehenden Tabelle entnehmen kann. Beim VRAM hat sich größentechnisch nichts verändert, was im Umkehrschluss bedeutet, dass weiterhin 8-GB-VRAM verbaut werden. Einzig die Taktrate wurde etwas verringert, um die Leistungsabgrenzung zur schnelleren Radeon RX 6600 XT etwas zu vergrößern. Was das genau in Zahlen bedeutet, dazu später mehr.

Für diesen Test haben wir das Modell aus dem Hause Sapphire von AMD Deutschland gestellt bekommen. Die Grafikkarte besitzt zwei 90-Millimeter-Axiallüfter und kommt im klassischen 2-Slot-Design daher. Insgesamt wirkt die Grafikkarte recht kompakt, denn mit nur 19,5 Zentimetern in der Länge kann dieses Modell auch in sehr kompakten Gehäusen untergebracht werden. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist der geringe Energiebedarf, was auch der Lautstärke unter Last zugutekommt. Die Rückseite der Grafikkarte ist mit einer stabilen Backplate versehen, die aber nicht nur der Optik dient. Unter der Backplate befinden sich einige Wärmeleidpads, um die entstehende Abwärme besser verteilen zu können.

Genauso wie alle anderen RDNA2-basierten Modelle profitiert auch die AMD Radeon RX 6600 von den Vorteilen der aktuellen Architektur. Jedoch ist das Realtime-Raytracing-Feature nicht viel mehr als nur ein guter Marketing-Aufhänger. Die Leistung der 28 RT-Cores ist einfach zu gering, wenn es darum geht, das Feature vollumfänglich zu nutzen. Weitere Details zur GPU und deren Features haben wir hier einmal zusammengetragen.

Bei den externen Anschlüssen gibt 3x DisplayPort (1.4a) und 1x HDMI (2.1). Außerdem muss die Grafikkarte zusätzlich noch mit einem 8-Pin-Stromanschluss mit dem Netzteil verbunden werden.

Unser Testsystem mit AMD Ryzen 9 5900X als Basis

Als Testsystem dient eine aktuelle AMD-Plattform auf Basis des Asus X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi. Die CPU (AMD Ryzen 9 5900X) bietet eine gute CPU-Leistung und als Kühlung nutzen wir eine AiO (G.Skill ENKI 360). Der 32-GB-Arbeitsspeicher stammt von G.Skill und wurde uns ebenfalls wie die AiO zur Verfügung gestellt. Als Monitor nutzen wir den Acer Predator XB321HK. Ein großer Dank geht an dieser Stelle an AMD für die Bereitstellung der Testplattform.

Synthetische Benchmarks

Wie sich schon aus den Specs der Grafikkarte ableiten lässt, reiht sich die AMD Radeon RX 6600 mit einem kleinen Abstand hinter dem größeren Bruder, der AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT ein. Knapp 20 Prozentpunkte trennen die beiden Pixelbeschleuniger voneinander. In 3DMark kann sich unsere Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 sogar gegen die Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 durchsetzen. Bei den weiteren DX11- und OpenGL-Benchmarks wendet sich allerdings das Blatt und die GeForce RTX 3060 hat die Nase vorn.

Weiterhin lässt sich aber klar erkennen, dass die AMD Radeon RX 6600 oftmals schneller rechnet, als eine AMD Radeon RX 5700 und dabei deutlich sparsamer zu Werke geht. Damit positioniert sich die AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT sehr gut als Grafikkarte für Gamer die vorrangig in FullHD spielen.

Bei den reinen Spieletests ist die AMD Radeon RX 6600 je nach Spiel und Qualitätseinstellungen der Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 dicht auf den Fersen. Grundsätzlich wird die Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 dem gerecht, was AMD verspricht. Uneingeschränktes 1080p-Gaming ist mit dieser Grafikkarte auch mit den aktuellsten Spielen möglich. Wie gut man allerdings mit dieser Grafikkarte für die Zukunft gerüstet ist, wird sich erst zeigen müssen. Grundsätzlich kommt es immer auf das jeweilige Spiel und die Optimierungen an.

Bei den dokumentierten Frametimes und dem Frameverlauf verhält sich die Radeon RX 6600 ähnlich wie die RX 6600 XT. Überraschend konstant und gering, mit einer kleinen Ausnahme, sind die aufgezeichneten Frametimes in unserem Beispiel. Die Leistungskurve bei den ausgegebenen Bildern pro Sekunde ist im Testverlauf relativ stabil und pendelt sich über den gemessenen Zeitraum bei 80 FPS ein. Damit sind längere Spielesessions ohne Leistungsverlust mit der Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 problemlos möglich.

Emissionen - Energiebedarf und Lautstärke

Mit einer TDP von nur 132 Watt ist die AMD Radeon RX 6600 recht sparsam. Verglichen mit der Leistung, die einer AMD Radeon RX 5700 überlegen ist, zeigt sich hier einmal sehr deutlich, wie effizient die neue RDNA2-Architektur ist.

Die notierten Energieverbräuche umfassen das Testsystem ohne Monitor. Beim Spielen und auch beim Stresstest ist die Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 am sparsamsten in diesem Vergleich und dies teilweise sehr deutlich. Nur rund 260 Watt messen wir im Durchschnitt beim Spielen. Die Temperaturen hat Sapphire bei seinem Modell ebenfalls sehr gut im Griff. Beim Stresstest mit FurMark zeigt notieren wir eine maximale GPU-Temperatur von 76 °C, wenngleich als GPU-Hot-Spot maximal 88 °C angegeben werden. Also kein Grund zur Besorgnis.

Der verbaute Kühler inklusive Lüfter arbeitet sehr leise, was zudem mit einem Fan-Stop-Mode einhergeht. Aber auch unter Last sind die beiden 90-Millimeter Ventilatoren nicht aus dem geschlossenen Gehäuse zu hören. Die installierten Lüfter der Alphacool Eisbear Aurora 360 AiO sind zu jeder Zeit lauter.

Mit der AMD Radeon RX 6600 schickt AMD nun das nächste Modell auf RDNA2-Basis ins Rennen und zeigt, dass man in puncto Energieeffizienz deutlich nachlegen konnte. Trotz des 8-Pin-Stromanschlusses sollte man sich nicht verunsichern lassen, denn im Test war die Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 am sparsamsten. Die neuen Features, welche RDNA2 mit sich bringt, bietet auch das neue Einstiegsmodell der Mid-Range-Grafikkarten. Dennoch sollte man hier nicht zu viel erwarten. Denn schon die AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT konnte bei den Spielen, welche Realtime-Raytracing nutzen, nicht vollends überzeugen. Das es die Radeon RX 6600 hier noch schwerer haben wird, war absehbar. Wer allerdings ohne dieses Feature leben kann und dennoch Freude am Spielen hat, bekommt mit der Radeon RX 6600 eine topmoderne und zudem sehr sparsame Grafikkarte, die unterm Strich den Geldbeutel bei den Energiekosten schont.

Apropos Kosten, diese haben wir in diesem Review noch gar nicht erwähnt. Aus gutem Grund, denn noch immer ist der Grafikkartenmarkt total überteuert, wenn man sich die UVP der Grafikkarten als Basis nimmt. Die UVP der Radeon RX 6600 liegt bei 329 Euro. Wer sich aktuell die Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 aus unserem Review zulegen möchte, muss aber mindestens mit 629 Euro rechnen. Ein Preis der momentan nicht als Kaufargument dient. Hier hilft es nur nach Schnäppchen Ausschau zu halten, denn wenn wir mal ehrlich sind, sollte eine Grafikkarte für 1080p-Gaming nicht mehr wie 350 Euro kosten.

Die AMD Radeon RX 6600 überzeugt im Test mit einer guten Energieeffizienz bei einer gleichzeitig guten 3D-Performance.

Was die reine Leistung angeht, gibt es nicht viel Kritik unsererseits. Die versprochene 1080p-Gaming-Leistung wird geboten, wenngleich beim Thema Raytracing mit Einschränkungen vorlieb genommen werden muss. Die Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6600 arbeitet zu jeder Zeit sehr leise und auch die Temperaturen sind bei der geringen Verlustleistung kein Thema. Alternativen zu der Radeon RX 6600 gibt es momentan nicht sehr viele, denn auch gebrauchte Grafikkarten sind maßlos überteuert. Wer jedoch eine GeForce RTX 3060 zu einem vergleichsweise moderaten Kurs ergattern kann, bekommt hier ebenfalls eine sehr gute 1080p-Gaming-Leistung inklusive besserem Raytracing-Support und DLSS.
